It's only on rewatching the scene here that I realize Sang-Woo was trying to get the husband to kill himself. He could see that the husband was overcome with grief and guilt, and he saw an opportunity to reduce the number of competitors by one. He's an opportunist, and a very tenacious one.

One thing I haven't noticed until multiple rewatches of this episode is that the husband who killed himself actually had a valid reason to want to leave and end the game. Remember that at the start, they said 100M each would be paid to the families of those who died in the game should they be cancelled. If that's the case then he would've received 100M from his wife's death. Maybe it wasn't just guilt or trauma that made him want to quit.

Sangwoo kinda reminds me of Edward from Shutter Island. (Spoilers if you haven't seen the movie) At the movie's end he says his famous quote "is it better to die as a good man or live as a monster?"....and you kinda see that internal conflict at times in Sangwoo.

Sang-Woo I would of bet on him and takes to be the winner if we where all in this situation we would do anything to win to be alive and get the money. The game overall is horrible but survival mode would kick in. The thug player if you are real big you cut numbers, cheat and build alliances and not move on the glass stones if I die so does everyone! Those would be the real life winners

I felt the same about the husband who killed himself, like let your wife live if you're just gonna do that but...I guess the whole situation just got to him which is understandable. it's easy to miss on first watch but in the previous episode when it's revesled they go against each other, the wife turns to the husband and goes "honey..." sort of implying that she's going to make some kind of reasoning that she shouldn't win. Maybe she figured he had more chance of winning the whole thing, maybe he's got more to see to back home than she does. But either way it must have been awful for them.
@chrissolace
@chrissolace Год назад
Yeah, I think she thought he had a better chance or maybe they decided on random chance but… you never realize the emotional weight of having to live on when someone you love is dead, basically because of you. Rationally, he should’ve lived, but emotionally, you can see why he did.

@@アキコ2003 me?? obviously I'm empathetic to the guy but it's a tv show with some wildly extreme circumstances that we can make commentary on. If this was real there'd be MUCH bigger issues than that haha. But in the end his wife his died so he could live and now it's for nothing. I obviously wouldn't be quite so blunt and callous if it wasn't fiction 😂

@VermillionGates
@VermillionGates Год назад
To add to the beginning where you were recapping last episode, I don't think that Sang Woo didn't care about Ali, it's just that he's the type to internalize all of his struggle while Gi Hun is much less so. You could tell he's probably a naturally caring guy by the way he helps others (including when he gave Ali the last of his money in ep 2 outside of the games), but he is also at his breaking point and has come to terms with what he has to do faster than most others. He's truly a broken man beyond the point of any other main character and you can see how depressed he is throughout the series, even suicidal in episode 2. I think you probably agree at this point anyways, but it's also funny how many people who watch this show have a one sided hatred for him when I think he's a pretty good example of a once good guy who is broken to the point of pure survival and determination to save his mom, albeit at the expense of others

When Gi-hun stood up after Il-nam asked him for one marble so that they could keep playing, a gunshot was heard, which was followed by an announcement that Player 70 was eliminated. Player 70 was the wife.

There was a chance for almost half of the people to survive. If each person took one jump, they’d have a 50/50 chance of survival for the first 16 jumps. That only leaves 2 panels left. That means on average, it’s possible for 7 people to have survived. Possibly more with a little luck. And it’s not like the first guy would have had a problem convincing everyone. Just have the math teacher tell everyone the probability of survival. The first 10 people were nearly guaranteed to die.

Im pretty sure the numbers are still odd. Because if you think about it... If the doctor didn't get killed, then that means the girl would have had a partner. And since one person from every partnership died, then it makes sense for her to be bought back. Because the doctor died. On top of that, the dude ended up killing himself, so its uneven again.

Did the Front Man throw out his ideology of fairness? Not at all if fairness is from the perspective of the VIPs and within the objective of the game. Glass Stepping Stone is designed to force a contestant to make a series of choices that has a 50-50 chance of success or failure. The trailblazer, or the person who leads the group through the unknown, advances others by his or her choices. When the VIPs realized the glassmaker was able to see the differences between the tempered glass and normal glass, the game became “disappointing” because the contestant no longer had a 50-50 chance of success or failure with each step. By changing the settings of the lights, the objective of the game was restored.
@nothing3887
@nothing3887 Год назад
Yeah it’s still unfair. You can’t say you’re being fair and then directly try affecting a participant because he has knowledge of something. What if a really well built MMA fighter competed in this and made it to the final game, would that be fair for the opponent? Would they cripple the MMA fighter lol

Them turning off the lights made the game fair as he had a unfair advantage they looked over they games are suppose to be made so everyone has a equal chance at winner with nobody with no advantages.

What about tug of war where strength was an advantage(not a guaranteed win but an advantage)? Why didn't strong men have a handicap in that game if we are talking fairness? Or what if a player was really freaking good at marbles?
