I preferred not having to report suspected abuse, but the state made me a police officer in a classroom just because I wanted to be a teacher… sometimes it’s not all about an assembly-line of education. Sometimes it’s about caring for the children and whatever might hurt them. I do it for the kids, not just because I like the subject matter I talk about.

I take it for granted that I grew up in New Zealand. We have safety drills for Earth quakes and fires chemicals spills but never shooting.
