It was a split of a second decision for Kohli, but his instinctual cover drive posture helped him to generate enough force with the bat while being on backfoot let him stand firm without loosing his balance. This is no fluke, the man is playing the sport for a dacade now, ofcourse he didn't think about it during the match but his subconscious knew the shorter boundary and he delivered. King for a reason.

as a self proclaimed expert in cricket video games since 1990s, i can assure you that this shot is almost impossible to execute in any of the games even at normal difficulty level. the only way i can see it happening is if you max up your attributes and hit it to the lowest ranked bowler at the easiest level in EA cricket 07 with 20 percent probability.

Stop lying so called self proclaimed expert. There is no such animation of horizontal bat Straight lofted shot in any cricket game ever including the most latest by ant studios - cricket 22. So the question of executing such a shot never arises when such thing is not even coded in the game in the first place. In EA cricket 07 the straight lofted Backfoot shot is done with a vertical bat animation. That doesn't count.

Haris usually bowls around 145-150 kph and his slower deliveries are in 130s, so that also helped as it is medium pace, many top bowlers usually bowls with such pace, take Bhuneshwar Kumar for example, not pacy but has a very good line and length and he bowls with such pace. From 150 to 130 kph, it is still 20kph slower than his usual deliveries, and Haris did nothing wrong there, it was jus the moment we have to witness and what a great moment it was. Heartbroken as a Pakistani but if it took a Virat masterclass to win that game, I have no complaints.

The amazing fact is that he was planning this shot....in this match probably around 15,16 over haris rauf bowled the exact same ball to hardik and kohli just practiced swinging his bat for that same ball, straight down the ground standing on the other end...and he executed when it was his turn ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥 👑👑

It is difficult the imagine at 8:25 that the ball will go down the ground. Absolute masterful of a shot.

It’s brilliant analysis, how you dissected it and explained the backstory in slow motion. Most people just appreciate the shot but it’s more than that. What lead Virat to play that shot based on who is bowling, dimensions of MCG, in World Cup, against Pakistan, pressure situation and 28 off 8 needed etc etc... It’s the overall context leading up to the this particular shot that makes it extraordinary. Great work Jarrod Kimber. 👏👏👏

When virat is batting well and the situation is relatively pressure less , You can see his eyes enjoying , The aura around him is calm. When the chips are down and he is against a wall but still standing , you can see a void in that helmet , dark and cold , bustling with grit . Most bowlers in the world fear the latter . The former is a bad day at the ground , the latter is a set up for a humiliation of some sort , what kind is up to virat.

The first instinct I had when he played the shot was - long off fielder comes running in and Kohli caught at long off.. and then I see the ball sailing into the stands.. omg- where did he get the power in that shot from. His backfoot isn’t stable , the weight is not on front foot , the body is not behind the ball.. incredible!!!

This shot deserved a dissection. I've never seen any player play that shot to short of length ball aimed at the ribs. Every instinct - instinct which you have built watching 100s of hours of cricket - tells you it cannot travel very far. But it did. Thats the beauty of that shot.

28 from 8 Kohli has to find a boundary against Rauf. Kohli stands his ground , straight down the ground. He lifted it up , " THAT IS A SHOT OF AN EMPEROR ". A straight six down the ground... to the back cloaking on the seats . 68 from 49 balls Virat Kohli 2 sixes and 6 fours . He still needs something of this delivery , 22 of 7. Rauf in at him , Kohli lifts it up to fine leg and it carries to six . The man is a genius . " HE'S NOT JUST A KING , HE'S A GENIUS ".

That shot was from God of cricket. I always rated sachin Sharjah innings against australia at the top where sachin was hitting everything that was coming to him, but this shot man ohh man changed my perception. Kholi is not only king he is the god of cricket. Only God can hit that shot under humongous pressure. Forget about the situation where it 31 of 12 but it was a match against Pakistan and kholi was way too under pressure to give that performance. My salute to this guy...🙏
