VIRGIL ABLOH PRESENTATION ON THE FSF SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION AND POST-MODERN FUND TO STUDENTS AT FSF’S HBCU MEMBER SCHOOLS DATE: TUESDAY NOVEMBER 17TH 2020 TIME: 5:00PM CHICAGO
I think the true diversity comes in the way that the students are found and chosen. As a kid from Huboldt County I have always experienced this sense of access. I can access just about all the information that goes along the way of these opportunities because of the internet but this is a roundabout way of access. After all, I still do not feel like I could be chosen for this scholarship over here at HSU. I have only heard of access through signing up for the emailing list. I want to see innovation in they way that we find the student's who need this access. I see many scholoraship's appeal to educational sponsors by saying they are going to be the backdoor for diversity but the problem is the systems for choosing diverse scholars is the issue. When there is hardly room for diversity in the primary schooling system, how are we going to make an informed selection from all of our diverse options to represent in secondary schooling. Something Avante Garde would be working to create a new metric for qualifications, even if it is just "a conversation w Virgil over email".
