Ascoltando questo magnifico tenore , ho avuto una strana impressione . Mi è sembrato di ascoltare Schipa con la voce di tenore lirico spinto .

I have been listening to recordings and attending Metropolitan Opera performances for 43 years now. Today is the first time I have heard this gentleman's voice. It is absolutely magnificent, a true bel canto artist, in some ways reminiscent of Carlo Bergonzi. What a find! I will be checking RU-vid frequently in hopes of hearing more.

I've only heard this and e la solita storia, but that's enough to know that this guy had it all. Legato, phrasing, incredible mezza voce (subtle too), with the balls to give everything and the technique to back it up. May we all sing like this someday

For a moment I thought I was listening to Correlli. I don't understand why be didn't become a megastar of Opera.

@phedrob :: Corelli is my favorite tenor and always will be ... but this man's voice is on a different level.

He was my master during a year in Caracas, he was trying to scape from the Soviet Union , fearing a Russian invassion to Lietuva. Tall, white haired like a Polar bear, kind, gentle, player and funny as a big child, with a strong voice of spinto tenor, I remeber him as a wonderfull artist, whose version of Niun mi tema of Verdi's Othelo is the best I ever heard. I thought I'd never see him again after he went back to Lietuva. Thanks for posting it!!!

How could he fear "Russian invasion " of Lietuva this republic being part of the USSR till 1990.As far as I know he was extremely popular in the Soviet Union, highly honoured and awarded with the title of the People's artist of the USSR. By the the way it's 2021 now and Lietuva hasn't been invaded yet by this "awful Russia".though it itself has been following defiantly anti-russian policy since the collapse of the USSR.Sorry to learn my beloved tenor fell victim to this idiotic rusofobian propaganda.

@@oksanabaromenskaya9103 Lithuania hasn't been invaded "yet"? Then how were they ever part of the Soviet Union? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_the_Baltic_states And this "awful" Russia has invaded several neighbors since, so I don't have any idea whatsoever where your righteous tone comes from.

@@oksanabaromenskaya9103 As a Lithuanian, I can tell you that we DON'T follow "anti-russian" policy. We only speak up for the crimes committed by Soviet and Russian authorities against our nation. They still owe us for the occupations by Tsarist Russia from 1795 to 1915 and by Soviet Union from 1940 to 1990. Of course, they still haven't given us the criminals who are responsible for the events of January 13, 1991 or for the killing of several border troopers of Medininkai. I could name a hundred of other reasons of the "anti-russian" policy, but I am sure that you know what I mean. As a russian, or a follower of Russia, you will deny any of this and claim that its "fake", but that is okay because as we speak, innocent russians are mauled around the world for their politics and the leader they have voted for. A 100 thousand dead russian soldiers in the current war in Ukraine is a VERY small price to pay compared to what a single nation annexed by Soviet Union have been put through. Noreika would have been a very famous and rich singer if not for the occupation. If you consider us russophobes, then we are glad to be considered this way as we speak the truth and only the truth. I hope you will learn from this comment.

Che bellissima voce!Noreika is just a superb lirico-spinto tenor.I believe he is every bit as good as some of the top level lyric spinto tenors in the West during the 60's and 70's.And that phrase "io della morte",at 3:51 on this recording absolutely gives me goosebumps!Grazie mille khankonchak for sharing this aria by this wonderful tenor from Lithuania.

Lots of WOW factor here. I've heard Pav and Krause in this music. I prefer Norieka. It's such a complete performance. The voice has a beautiful bloom with plenty in reserve. This is the famous aria that Pavarotti broke on the final "C" at La Scala. He raced to NY and gave a concert to prove that he could handle that note. It was the beginning of the downslide. I know Norieka appeared at La Scala. Shame we never saw him in NY.Today he would be considered a sensation. Many thanks to khankonchak.

I remember Noreika when he was prosperous and famous in the Soviet Union. Very good operatic voice. It is funny somebody compares him with Gigli or Pavarotti. No wonder he fled to Caracas, not to Europe.
