The start of a long journey between London & Brazil. I was travelling on this flight, VS103 from Heathrow to Atlanta, then with Delta Airlines later that night down to Rio De Janeiro. Another fantastic with Virgin! Top notch service and a beautiful aircraft both inside & out. This was filmed from extra legroom, exit row 51, seat 51A. Once boarded we pushed back & taxied to the holding point for RWY27L, before climbing out to the west and heading towards the Atlantic. Eventually climbing up to our highest point of 36,000ft. Once stateside we passed over the top of Toronto, some incredible views of the city & the CN Tower. Our routing then continued south towards Cleveland and around some stormy, turbulent weather just before commencing descent into Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Int'l Airport. All in all a brilliant flight! Lovely crew and fantastic in flight service, plenty of food & drink and good entertainment system. Also I was glad to finally get on one of Virgin's gorgeous A340-600's before they eventually replace them with the 787's and soon the A350's.
FLIGHT DETAILS:
Aircraft: Airbus A340-642
Reg: G-VYOU
Name: Emmeline Heaney
Aircraft Delivered: 23-08-2006
Seat: 51A
Flight Number: VS103
Date: Sunday 12th August 2017
Engine Type: 4x Rolls Royce Trent 500
Departure Time: 11:00 (airborne approx. 11:30)
Departure Runway: RWY27L
Arrival Runway: RWY27L
Flight Duration: 9 hours (approx)
Cruising Alt: 36,000ft (FL360)
Route: LHR-ATL
Check out the other videos from this journey. On my Delta flight from Atlanta to Rio I filmed a review of the inflight service on Delta's "One" Business class cabin. So look out for that.
Great to fly with Virgin again, by far my first choice when it comes to flying longhaul!
*As always by *Full Flight I do NOT literally mean a 9 hour + video of nothing. A 9 hour video featuring every cloud we passed enroute across the Atlantic... No. By full flight, I mean that this video includes every phase of the flight. Taxi, Take Off, Descent & Landing and everything interesting or worth showing inbetween. If you're looking for a 9 hour video of nothing, unfortunately you've come to the wrong RU-vid channel.
Thanks for watching

The A340 has always been one of my favourite aircraft. Such a shame to see them being slowly phased out. 😢
@HowToCameron
@HowToCameron 7 лет назад
I can almost guarantee they will be in service for 10 or more years, as Lufthansa have so many of them. And they aren't very old. In comparison to their 747-400s by example.

A340 is my personal fav Airbus aircraft........without a doubt. Only thing I don't like about SOME of them are their "hair dryer" engines.

turbofanlover you're thinking of some of the older models right? South African fly a couple of those still.
@mattm5672
@mattm5672 7 лет назад
He's not referring to older models but rather the smaller engines on the A300-200/300 that have CFM56-5C engines rather than the Rolls Royce Trent 500's on the A340-500/600 and look peculiar due to the longer cowl covering their exhausts. I'm not entirely sure why they bother me too but they do!

I love Virgin Atlantic i have flown with them a few times going to Orlando from Gatwick. I am going to have to start saving up again for another holiday this time to Miami. The best bit i love on an aircraft is the taxi'ing and take off then the landing taxi'ing to the gate then the adventure begins.
@tomtalker2000
@tomtalker2000 5 лет назад
What a beautiful old lady this aircraft is. The A340's will always have a special place in my heart for them. They were the pinnacle of overseas travel during their heyday. They were also the longest aircraft in the 600 variation such as this one. That is until the 777-300ER beat it. Another great sub-jumbo jet i call them "subs" because only the 747 falls into the jumbo category. And super jumbo obviously for the A380 which will be dead by 2021 since their are no new orders for these particular aircraft past that year. So we'll see how the 777x, 787-10, and Airbus A350-1000 will fare i'm sure quite well.

Interesting trivia : The US state of Georgia was named after King George ll in 1732 when he approved a charter for a colony there. Atlanta was founded in 1837 after the end of the Western & Atlantic Railroad line Originally named Marthasville after the then governor's daughter. Nicknamed Terminus for it's rail location ,then Atlanta after Atlantic

A knot is about 1.15 mph, so Virgin on screen speeds should show more mph than knots; I thought I saw a lower number for mph than for knots, which does not make any sense to me! Great trip; it's nice to get all the chapters in an epic journey instead of a few parts; thanks, much enjoyed.

Here are some rules for flying on ANY airline: 1) Don't refer to a flight attendant as "stewardess", 2) The flight attendant's word is law regarding mobile phone use 3)Don't annoy the flight attendants by repeatedly asking "What sort of drinks ya got?" 4) Don't tell a flight attendant to smile, as you have no idea what kind of day they're having...
