My favorite beach on St John. Use to take my kids there to camp in a tent. We lived over on St Thomas in those days. So it was a get away for us. All happened in the 70's. Rental was only $20 a night in those days. 🤗🥰
My wife and I camped a week here in 1968 when I was a lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps stationed at Rodriguez Hospital in old San Juan. The tents erected by the National Park Service were not on a platform, but did have canvas floors. No electricity back then. The only shower was not enclosed. You spotted newcomers because they were shy about reaching into their swim suits to lather up for the first day or so. The shack on the beach had limited food items. They had a price on them and you put your money in a bucket at the front and took the change from your payment. No attendee. It also served as a lost and found and it was impossible to lose anything because the campers always turned in what was left behind. You might be invited to another campsite where the liquor was free, but you had to bring and share your own ice which was at a premium and scarce. I think Cinnamon Bay looks as if it is the most serene place on St. John and the best snorkeling.
It still is a wonderful place but it sounds so much more fun from your story. I wish it were still that wild now! Thanks for watching and sharing your story.
back from my third visit to St John and this is our favorite beach- this video does the beauty of it justice more than my videocamera does- more crowded then normal this July but it slowly emptied out as the afternoon went along- kids saw alot of fish out snorkeling on the far end and the pelicans were having a feeding frenzy out there which was an added bonus.
We certainly are more crowded than normal, but glad you got to enjoy the beach and that you got the pelican feeding frenzy as a bonus! Just today we saw a flock of seagulls feeding for a long time as well... Full moon is close ;)
