I'd like to tell you that the parrot you saw in Barcelona is very common in my country, Uruguay; in the past, people used to have them at home as pets, they repeat phrases and are very funny. They are commonly known as "cotorras".
Barcelona is a beautiful city. The Segrada Familla is 142 years, the first stones were laid in 1882. My mom and I did a tour of Spain in 2008 and a our last stop was Barcelona. I took a picture of the sone that had 1882 etched on it. Bacelona Cathedral in the Barri Gotic is over. 800 years old. I've always remembered when Segrada Familia was built because it had been in existence for 100 years by 1982 when I was born.

You briefly mentioned the other cruise ships in the port .....we boarded the NCL escape next to the Scarlett Lady for a 9 day cruise around the Mediterranean on the same day as you from Barcelona. Cruising is definitely the best way to go.....we had the best time!
