The house on Southernland St. On Zillow is priced at $230; thousand dollars ( rounded up).... Thanks for doing such a wonderful job at what you do Joe &Nic.... I'm always excited to watch your videos ❤ Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.... Be safe out there ❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hello Joe. I enjoy the demographical, historical, etc, information you provide in your videos. In reference to this one, I am a native of Virginia and I appreciated the information you provided regarding what the African Americans experienced. I also appreciated you saying that history shouldn't be swept "under a rug". History (good or bad) needs to be disclosed.
So cool to see the Yeatts tavern ..that is the original home of my family! The graveyard beside the home is the resting place of my 6x great grandparents. During the revolutionary war they would fix wagons, swap horses, and give a safe place for travelers to rest. After the war the state of Virginia gave land on top of the mountains to the Yeatts family for "what they did in the war". They also sent them a bill for "unpaid liquor tax"!! Lol One son moved to the mountain land and some of the family stayed close by but we are still in both places thriving. Whether you spell Yeatts with two T's or one... or you spell it Yates more than likely you can trace the family back to this place. There are Yeatts folks from here to Alaska and all points in between! Again so cool to turn on a video and see HOME!!
We LOVE living out here in the Southeast region. So many beautiful historic towns with lovely homes. The Danville house is listed on Zillow for $229,900 with 1965 sq ft of living space. Sounds like a bargain.
Now don't get me wrong, I do love Joan's version of the song, but Robbie Robertson wrote it and his group "The Band" played it first. Let's play song trivia!
Being born in VA it is nice to see what it looks like. It is truly beautiful to look at and see. That one house at 151 Sutherland goes for about 230k 3 br/2ba built in 1911. Beautiful place 2 fireplaces and lots of space for a family. Thanks for sharing and you have safe travels. Happy Holidays to you and yours
You are such a blessing to show places in America that are affordable to live worth low crime when the country seems riddled and overcome absolute gems you reveal thank you
That barn you passed with the round bales of hay at around the 4:00 mark was an old tobacco drying barn. When my Dad was a kid in Virginia, he and his siblings would pick tobacco - that's how they earned the money for their school clothes.
Danville has a sizable population of historic preservationists. A lot of preservationists seem to move there and buy the great old houses due to the low prices.
I just love your videos. You are really very good at it. Packed with info, anecdotes. William Gaddis has a novel called Carpenter's Gothic it's just wonderful to see it in context.
The Miller story is fascinating - I think it was on "60 Minutes" awhile back. I lived in VA for about a year on a work assignment. As a yankee/midwesterner I found it endlessly interesting. People were super nice; lots and lots of history. The drive on Highway 29 through the Shenandoah Valley is gorgeous.
Virginia is such a gorgeous state. I love the B&B in your opening. The Carpenter Gothic plantation is really cool. Chatham is gorgeous! Lovely homes. I do like Danville! I love the murals. 100% agree. You cannot sweep history under the rug! You must learn from it! Looking forward to NC
I looked up the Masonic temple and found out it has been sold and is going to be renamed River City Towers. It is going to be reopened at some point and is going to become a boutique hotel. River City Towers is scheduled for remodel and it is going to be a hotel (a resort I guess), probably with restaurant and bar of course! You should return when it is open and bring the wife and sample the new hotel, and what it will offer. The you can give a review afterwards on it!
This was absolutely fascinating, a mixture of Civil Rights history and the Confederacy. I think the images speak for themseles, especially the more affluent Chatham. Thankyou
Loved the confederate monument to the 53 Virginia Infantry . They lost 215 men as they followed General Armistead over the stone wall at Gettysburg . " Though they fell , they fell like stars , streaming splendor across the sky ." Another great video .
Kind of ironic that that song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down " was written and recorded first by a Canadian singer/songwriter, Robbie Robertson and The Band. Their recording is much more famous in Canada and most of the US.
1🐈 yay!!. Dude must've been shocked I know i would've been too 😮. Most excellent Joey you did your research and homework real hard on this trip my friend. @Joe & Nic's Road Trip
Joe. Actually Danville is named after a guy named Dan. 🙂 Dan, the fifth of Jacob's sons and the ancestor of the Tribe of Dan, was the son of Jacob's concubine Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid. He only had one full brother, Naphtali, though he had 10 other half-brothers.
love your videos places I'll never be able to go to. It's hard to go places. after a stoke am a civil-war reenactor 2 ark inf company D pine bluff ark thanks for all of them
The house for sale in Danville goes for $230k. It was built in 1911 and is about 2000 sqft roughly. The house is not an HGTV quality house, but it looked very nice and could use some light cosmetic updates in the kitchen. That brick building further down the street was a synagogue founded in 1893. The thing that I always like about Virginia is that there is tons of history nearly everywhere you go in the state.
Yate's Tavern! (NOT coffee!) Chatham: Wow - new advanced town info details charts/graphs! Only 1 property crime? The other shoplifters/thieves there must be really sneaky! Danville: Yes, I'm really old and do remember that classic song! 🎼🎵🎵🎶 ...Didn't know it was about Danville though! Like the novel idea of a roof over the mobile home! ...Yeah, I'm running behind lately - youtube is pounding us watchers with TONS of ads on many channels because of Christmas and it takes a lot of extra time - even to vanquish them.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, I love to watch your videos. I get to travel all over in the comfort of my home. But still get to experience traveling.
Love that these houses are being preserved got a bit of catching up to do with the u.k , my local church was first constructed in 1078 parts have been added over the centuries , local pub is from the 1500s . They are stunning old buildings though you have in the u.s ..look after them 😊❤.
The Old Good Times, when USA was full of factories and production and people was happy to buy land, build house and raise three children. And how it looks now!
For who? All the money that Blacks made, went into pockets of the slaveholders...After Slavery the United States paid REPARATIONS to slaveholders, 😮 $300.00 per slave, but, What did the free slaves get -0- 😢😢😢But, Jim Crow Laws 😢😢😢😢HARD LABORS, STILL WORKING ON OLD MASTER, HIS PLANTATION FOR PENNY'S.....
Home at 151 Sutherlin in Danville is 3 bd , 2 bath and 1935 sq ft is going for $229,900. Its a good looking home. Love your streams and always look forward to seeing where you go next. Happy Holidays to you and Nicole. Stay safe and see ya soon.
Hope you'll be doing more VA! Its one of the most beautiful states. I lived there a number of years. As always, wonderful video, packed with great info and scenery! Happy Hollidays, Joe and Nicole!
Wow! You should have ridden out into the Schoolfield District, where all of the houses were built and owned by Dan River Mills, the once largest cotton mill in the world. The company had a school, rec. center, stores, and so forth. While in Chatham, you should have ridden by Chatham Hall, and Hargrave Military Academy.
I love your content so much. It's some of the most relaxing, best kitchen cooking time videos on my channel. I just can't get enough and I can't thank you enough for the content. I've watched every single video of yours now that I've been subscribed to you for about a month. Your videos are always being played in the kitchen when I'm cooking....and I cook a lot!😊👍
Hi; I wish you would swing by through there again in early spring some time. I bet it would be even more beautiful with more green leafy threes. The asking price for the house in Danville is $ 229,000.00. The realtor ad says monthly payments about $ 1,265.00 a month!
The cotton mill closed in Danville several years ago then Goodyear had a lot of layoffs and the textile plants closed too and it left Danville in bad shape. It has never really recovered. You did a great job on the video!
Thanks for the tour! I've driven all around that area but never actually been inside the "loop" of the main interstates. The crime rate in Chatham has to be the lowest you've ever encountered--interesting how it matches up with the number of cats you saw in town. (Coincidence? I think not! 🙂) Speaking of Confederate monuments, I highly recommend "Confederates In The Attic" by Tony Horwitz, which relates his travels in the south, including a whirlwind tour of battle sites with a hard-core Civil War re-enactor. Until next time, happy trails!
These historical towns were lovely on a lovely day. Thanks for the tour. The brick pattern on the street where you closed out was interesting. I can't imagine laying that! Merry Christmas!
I love these kind of places. We were only in VA for a year but there is a lot to see there. Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. There are a lot of atrocities in our history. They are asking $230k for that house, 5,328 sqft lot and built in 1911
How can you go wrong with a cat sighting in the beginning and another towards the end. Boy oh boy life just doesn't get any better than that. Thanks Joe and Nicole, much love as always.
I'd love to see you visit Wise and Pound, Virginia! This area is rich in history, from Francis Gary Powers' infamous U2 spy plane incident to the Coal Wars that shaped labor rights in Appalachia. Plus, you can explore the legendary Hatfield-McCoy feud and the birthplace of country music's Carter Family. It's a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered!
We raised burly tobacco in Kentucky . As a kid I would stand freezing with my family praying for that sound . American , Duke , brown & Williamson we did not care as long as it sold .
Love the old building, sad they don t make them like that any more, and Wow crime rate 1 Hard for me as a Canadian to understand the hate for some one of colour, There just people I have all kinds of people living around me , no problem ,
A great video, so much interesting history ! Lots of beautiful big homes and amazing buildings downtown ! Two cats, awesome ! Thanks so much, Joe, I always enjoy your videos !❤
Another informative video! Ty 4 taking us all over place! Great towns! Merry Christmas stay safe out there and watch the weather its coming ur way. U and Nicole stay safe.
Glad to see you corrected the fuzzy or out of focus edges on your videos (or some of your recent videos). Especially nice on this Virginia issue since everything is so beautiful. Wouldn't want to miss even a twig.
Chatham Court House we were able to go thorough the actual land documents of our relatives over 12 years ago. It was amazing but I fear that all these records will be lost some day.
Danville VA is bisected by the Dan River just above the NC state line . Danville was a big textile mill town in bygone days . My father 's hometown of Eden NC lies 30 miles west upstream from Danville on the Dan River . That area has some beautiful country .
Thank you Nic and Joe. I have learned so much about American history and seeing this beautiful, diverse country by watching your videos. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both. Keep up the good work.
Love this man. So much history around us here in va. Are you going to farmville? You can travel Lee's retreat. There's the high bridge trail. It's one of a kind view. Former railroad bridge but no longer used.
I agree with you 100 percent about history: learn from our mistakes and make things better today going forward. Really enjoyed these towns. Great video, as usual. Hope you will be with family for the upcoming holidays. Would love to visit Chatham someday.
I'm going out on a limb here, and guess your favorite song! Downtown by Petula Clark!! You said downtown a total of 13 times in this particular clip!! lol
I'm fairly new to your channel and enjoy your travels and commentary. After a couple of years of filming, I'm sure you recorded bloopers or other amusing things caught on camera that were edited out of the final video. I would love to see a compilation of that someday.
The last civil war land battle was April 16th, 1865 on the Chattahoochee River in Columbus Ga days after that was signed. Have you been to Crewe, Farmville or Pamplin Va. ?
Its 08 February 2024...that house for sale in Danville has been sold and already painted! It was built in 1911 and everything looked really nice inside...but the kitchen needed updating. The value was set at different amounts depending on where you looked....I got $198,000 and then$220,500. It was called the Covey House and has a bit of a history.
My parent had a home in Halifax Virginia, we would sometimes shop in Chattem, but mostly in Halifax, South Boston and Danville. Danville was one of the richest towns. I was in Danville in 2020 and 2021..It has changed so, so much. My parents moved to Washington DC in 1955. Still have relatives in Virginia. Nice ti visit but I dont want to live there.
