Dramatic dashcam footage captured the quick reaction of a police officer in Virginia, who pulled a fellow officer out of the path of an out-of-control car and likely saved both of them from serious injuries.
Officer Jessica McGraw was conducting an accident investigation on the southbound side of Highway 23 and was later joined by Officer Matthew Stewart, according to the Gate City Police Department.
Footage shared by the department shows the two officers talking on the side of the road next to a patrol vehicle when suddenly a white car on the northbound side loses control and crosses the median - slamming into the patrol vehicle.
"Officer Stewart caught a glimpse of the vehicle coming towards them and was able to react within a moment’s notice to grab McGraw and pull her out of the path of the spinning patrol car," Gate City Police Chief Justin Miller said in a statement shared Wednesday.

@@Lifecoach4life I completely agree with you that he’s a hero and stuff. I think all cops are heroes. Well at least the good ones but it isn’t “Superman ability” to do something like this. He was facing the direction that the car was coming from. Knew it was going to hit them and moved her out of the way. I have done the same thing with my little brother. I was helping him get to the bus stop one day when he walked into the road, car coming, I grabbed him and saved him from getting hit. I like to think It’s instinct or maybe reaction time. I think scientifically if you have a fast reaction time you wound do this where a slow reaction time results in freezing up. Either way, hero for sure none the less

@Dawson Was just typing a very similar message. Fight or Flight can kick in extremely quickly... not everyone thinks to grab someone else because that FoF can kick HARD! and the main thing is self-preservation. I've seen super brave people dive without grabbing someone (falling tree) and also see very selfish people grab someone (icy road at accident in intersection)... I do believe F P is mostly correct in his mindset, that even the most selfish people can be heros and save someone like this. Also, very proud of this officer. That was an awesome reaction.
@geedad

You have to look at the full scene though not only during but what he did after. His instinct was to protect, you can sense if not see it clearly. I don't disagree but he actually never changed his position at the point of impact thus his mind was only hell bent on saving hers. She locked up in confusion for a split second when he grabbed her and he still stuck it out knowing he could possibly get smeared if he didn't move.... luckily it worked out for both of them or we would be praising his ultimate sacrifice like far to many others that are disrespected today.

As he grabs & starts faintly starts pulling, she looks towards her right for cars from behind him(not herself), which shows she knows why he's doing it but never looks over her shoulder to see a veh from her 6, she starts picking up her knees high meaning she's starting to run the direction he's pulling her, she didn't need to see the car, she trusts her partner, heard noise behind her & followed his lead......thats shows real trust, partners, a team!!!!
