Absolutely enjoyed your video. Please make more on Hyco lake. Moomaw etc. Wish I knew the two guys you had on your video or where their from. I need some fishing buddies. Thanks
Curious to know if the guys are seeing hybrid Alabama-Smallmouth bass on the lake or not. They are usually showing up early in the invasion process, but they didn’t mention anything
@@neilandevette thanks! I figured they probably were showing up. It has been about 10 years since I was still living in VA and last fished Philpott, that was before the Alabama's "arrived." Such a shame. As you said in your other comment, this probably means the Smallmouth will disappear entirely in a few years and the lake will be full of stunted Alabama's and a handful of the "mean mouths," with Largemouths probably being confined to the areas with grass to give them that habitat advantage. As has happened everywhere else these fish have been moved to :(
Exactly! The full effect of the introduction of Alabama bass has not been seen yet. Hopefully I'm wrong and the smallmouth can survive but in most lakes they are bred out by the spots. Yes philpott has some grass but not near enough to sustain a substantial Largemouth population long term.
We have seen more pure smallmouth and spots than meanmouth so far. Hopefully it will balance out in the future. No doubt they are crossing but I believe there is enough stratification to support the populations. Especially with the spots being up the rivers and typically don't see that many smallies up there.
The Alabama bass are cross breeding with smallmouth. We catch "mean mouth" fairly regularly at philpott. Hopefully long term they don't eradicate the smallmouth population. The Alabama bass population has really exploded the last 2 years. I think people need to harvest A LOT of the Alabama bass to help keep the lake healthy. If they overpopulate it will be like Belews lake in NC. You will have a billion 12 inch spots in the lake.
Yea also need a fact check on the "skinny" largemouth at Buggs. I like Philpott but takes more weight to win a tournament on Buggs most of the time than it does at Philpott.
Also...do your research. You don't buy your way into the BFL Regional. You can only enter the wildcard if you've paid an entry fee in all 5 events and don't make the regional. And as far as tours that don't allow pros, ABA does that. They draw fewer boats than my club does
