Part 4 - with the Apache collective properly mounted I move on to connect and configure it with the VPC tool and initial keybinds in DCS

Just a heads up, cause I see not a lot of people know this, but DCS has auto detect for buttons and axis. Just double click on the thing you want to asign, opens the selection window, and then just press the button, or move the axis that you want to assign.

yes you are right but sometimes it doesn't register and for me personally I like to know the relationship between the virtual button/control seen by DCS and the physical and you have to do that by the software or trial & error

Dude really nice set up! I have the typical warthog, cougar mfds, 3 monitor rig, Tobii eye and everything down in my finished basement. Winters can get a bit cold sometimes and I made a mistake of plugging in a small space heater to a plug in the hallway near the game room. The breaker popped and it took out the power supply in my Warthog throttle. 400 down the drain. I ran a new dedicated circuit to a double plug receptacle just for my gaming rig. Couldn't help not to mention this when I saw all this gorgeous electronic gadgets. With the monitors and PC with all the stuff it's surprising how much they draw.

thanks for that, yeah I probably should measure the power draw some day soon with everything running. I don't know where you are based but fyi in the UK our voltage runs at 240v and the wiring internally typically is rated at 27A to serve a ring main basically we have it so you can draw 3KW from a single 3-pin plug... however my house is old so I should be mindful of that and get it tested your right

Another option is a UPS, it'll prevent the any damage and give you a grace period to safely shutdown the setup if there's any power issues.

Buying that nice Apache collective is a real investment, does it really improve your use of the Apache System? Personally I can fly the Apache fine with my regular throttle. What does it help with?Move the TADS or shooting hellfires?

Yeah its a good question so my view is that a collective really helps with the control and immersion of flight and the experience above anything else, so prioritise HQ VR and pedals 1st then get a collective & FFB stick if you like helis….a 6DOF motion rig being the end game

Not to mention the 1:1 button mapping. Huge upgrade if you fly the Apache a lot. Only reason I just ordered it. Got tired of using and remembering modifiers on the fly.

@@Mandriick What are the main buttons, functions you use with the collective? Not sure, the lower half looks like its good for emergency landings and the upper half is for using cameras and selecting targets etc, just a guess... I mean usually the Copilot/gunner uses these functions, the pilot not so much..?

Do you have any ghosting inputs with all the controlers connecting into one port? I have a powered USB hub but I get ghost inputs when i have my Cougar MFDs connected
