During one of the random chats in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, one of the characters mentions Virtua Fighter for Game Gear and I had no idea a VF port for Game Gear even existed before that! I'm actually impressed by the graphics here and I like that it has a Story Mode.
If you didn't defeat Sarah and on the first try and it resulted in her staying brainwashed even after being defeated, how would the cutscene afterwards have gone differently and what would the next chapter be called?
Probably the Game Gear version. It have the full opening cutscene and the defend Input (since it's on the start button on the GG is defend, and since the start button on the MS pause button it's on the console itself, Tectoy had no other choice but to remove the defend input.)
This doesn’t “butcher the characters,” nor is anything about it “showing its cracks badly in present day,” especially considering that that’s a terrible measure of the quality of something. Present day standards are the worst of both worlds; They’re overly critical in a way that they refuse to look at something from a bygone era with an open mind and consider anything unique from said era a flaw, yet at the same time, when those standards are adhered to, people try way too hard to make their new things as inoffensive as possible and end up with something tamer and more boring than the old stuff.
