Public historian, activist, and decolonial education consultant Heather Bruegl will talk about her work for the Morris-Jumel Mansion as part of a multi-faceted National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant that explored the connection of the land on which the museum stands, originally inhabited by the Lenape before European settlement. She will share the history of the land and people, and who the Lenape are today. Heather will also talk about the creation of a Land Acknowledgment for Morris-Jumel Mansion: the Acknowledgement of Indigenous Peoples as the Original Stewards of the Land.
Heather is a citizen of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and a first line descendent Stockbridge Munsee. She is a graduate of Madonna University in Michigan and holds a Master of Arts in U.S. History.
