Hello Sharmon! Thank you for taking us all to Bunche Beach. I learned the names of some shells that were new to me. Gotta say how happy I am that you found those awesome crown conchs. There's nothing quite like them. Of course the wentletrap was wonderful as were the rest. I was a couple of days late this week watching your show....I'm now busy with my new white Labrador puppy, Mr. Knightley. So now my other senior beagle, Pandy, has a new friend after losing our beautiful Sundae in May. He is gentle and sweet just like his name sake character. I'm so glad you're doing beach walks. I hope to take one with you someday. Have a blessed week, my friend. I'd love to see the shell you're planning to paint once you have it done.

So glad you got that brown-band WT! I found a couple some years back in SC along with a couple of the white species-it seems every year is a different shell. That year was wentletraps. This year baby’s ears. Knobbed whelks, sand dollars, and lettered olives have had their years too. I find the cycles of shells so interesting. Looking forward to next week’s walk!

@@SWFBeachLife I found a lot of baby ear shells at Holden Beach in NC. Unlike FL, I found quite a variety of colors which I assume was from the mineral composition of the sand. Helli, Sharmon, so glad to go along to Bunche Beach! Wow, what a lot of interesting tiny shells! Some of them I've never seen before! Kind of makes you think how many tiny shells people overlook in favor of the big, showy shells! I'm so glad you're having a fun beach day! It does my landlocked heart good to see you and hear the joy in your voice, dear friend. Until I can get there, I' ll see you in my beachy dreams. Much love to you and many thanks for keeping my beach tank full of sea, sand and shells! M

I think there is a "natural progression" us shellers go through. First, we all want the big horse conch or lightning whelks. That's all the matters - the big ones. Then the allure of only looking for big shells dissipates and the smaller shells become more "attractive." Then comes the teeny tiny shells, not to mention the "weirdos" like albinos or freak shells. I love them all and I'm thrilled that there is still so much to learn!!!

Once upon a time this area was an ancient aquatic seabed. Organic skeletal remains clearly present themselves in rocky sediment. I have discovered many intact braciopods (Kentucky's state fossil). I found a RU-vid channel where the really sweet creator shows and explains how the animals work and what they look like on the inside of their shells. He makes it all easy to understand by using great visuals, models and a soft voice. He’s videos would be excellent for children. You have a good eye! Not all of the crown conchs will get that second row of spikes. Some just don't grow them. Others have them but they are small and then others will have a glorious second row. Plus the direction of the spikes can differ too. I've seen them from other areas and the spikes tend to go straight up, whereas the ones I find, the spikes grow at an angle. It's all fascinating. Oh to go shelling in France!!!!

What books woukd you recommend? We had one in my place of retail. But it was drawings of the shells. And while I'm happy they have it. I would rather have real photos!

This book, hands down, is like my "Beach Bible" amzn.to/3aqkmO0 Then this one came in handy for the bivalves: amzn.to/3G8ngWo The other books aren't as helpful as you need to know what location the shells are from to kind of figure out what species it is.

@@SWFBeachLife Thanks for replying! Btw, you’re awesome! I wish I could express how much your beach visits feed my soul. I grew up on Huntington Beach CA and I’ve been landlocked in the Dallas area for the last 43 years. Ugh! When we retire I want to relocate near a beautiful beach. 2:20 I watch every episode you create 2-3 times. My husband thinks I’m obsessive, but I catch him watching your show! We’re planning a trip to the Ft. Myers area for next winter or spring. Hubby just bought a water proof backpack for the beach - ha, ha! We’ll definitely be taking a SWFL Beach Tour with your friend. Many, many thanks for your channel!

@@lisak5133 It was in Fort Myers Beach. We actually have fossils all over the place. Mostly in parking lots where old shells are used instead of gravel. We don’t have many rocks down here - just limestone!
