Great video, I live literally on the other side of the Wasatch front. Which is the Wasatch back.. we're in a real pickle in this state with water. Just a few years ago, the water was clear up to the road on the cosway
Check out the ears on what they call a Antelope Jackrabbit I caught on video one time in the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Area down in Southern Arizona - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HPQfWXTFiKk.html
Hey Ray🙋♀️❤😍🇨🇦‼️we went to Dinasaur Monument, then headed to Windover Nevada, wish we had stopped at Antelope Island, but there is just soooo much to see!!! And Dinasaur Monument was amazing...just had to watch out for snakes, I saw a mini rattler sunning itself on the road and some kind of big black one near the water. I love seeing bison, we saw a lot going from Hot Springs SD to Mt. Rushmore. Sure hope we get to get back to the USA again! Glad your trip was so good!
Hi Ray! My home faces Antelope Island. We can see the causeway out our front window! You picked a good time of year to go out there. Once it warms up, the bugs are terrible out there!
Literally my family’s back yard. Fielding Garr, who founded the ranch on the SE side of Antelope Island is my 4x Great Grandfather. The lake level is at an all time low currently and is nearly 10’ below its average which is why the marina isn’t in use. Between 1983 and 1993 access to the island was only possible by boat due to the floods of 1983 elevating the level of the lake above the causeway. Another excellent video as always. Safe travels to the land northward.
Catching up on some missed videos that were posted whilst recovering form an auto accident. I used to live in Ogden and my squadron (Hill AFB) put together a mountain bike run to and around the Island. Great place to visit, but yeah...you are lucky the bugs were so chill because when we went, it was summer and with all the huffing and puffing: I ate more flying critters in the few hours we were there than a person should ingest in a lifetime, lol.
Thanks for the tip! I'll remember that for next time, but have moved on, we have been doing mostly outdoor things this trip anyway and avoiding indoor spaces with crowds. We have our shots but Anne is on immune suppressing drugs still so even a common cold messes her up for about a month.
My uncle went to the island in the late 90s, he said the lakes water levels were much higher and way more spectacular than they were today, I wish I was there to see it
Hey Ray, another great video. I've been riding along on your snowbird travels for a bunch of years now. Something I'd like to see you add, just a real quick mention of how far out in advance you make park reservations (if at all). I'm not familiar with the western U.S., Florida & the east is months in advance. Safe Travels.
Thanks, the western USA isn't as near as populated as the east and has way more public lands so it's not as much of a problem. That's one big reason I much prefer snowbirding in the southwest. When on our snowbird travels we pretty well can fly by the seat of our pants so mostly don't make any reservations so we can switch our plans up anytime we like. We are self-sufficient so don't need hookups so can camp in a great many more different campsites and locations. Like right now I'm dry camping in a field at a small town fairgrounds for $12.75 a night. We are the only rig in the dry camping section. :) Usually, if it's a super popular State or National park I'll check maybe a week or so out and see if there are any spots, if not we just go elsewhere. I find in the USA west during the shoulder fall and spring, winter seasons most parks will have openings during the week, it's the weekends that can sometimes be tougher but we don't care, like the weekdays better anyway, fewer crowds in the parks. We don't do too much RV Park/Resort camping anymore except in the summer back in BC. Vancouver Island is super popular in the summer high season so like Florida, reservations need to be made way in advance if you want to spend longer than a day or two in one campsite. For our summer RV park in Campbell River BC where we usually spend a few months, I have to book it in January with a 50% deposit. For the provincial parks, I just booked 4 of them for May and half of June. Since RVing has boomed in popularity the provincial parks are jammed now. And with our big trailer, suitable campsites are harder to find. The Island is mostly forested so many of the campgrounds are hard to get around in with a large truck and trailer combo and many campsites aren't big enough for us. Back in my campervan days I rarely needed to make a reservation there. Cheers, Ray
Enjoying the lastest vid's Ray. Thanks! Great resource for future travels. Just wondering how strapping the honey wagon to your ladder is working out? Any signs of stress on the attachment points? Hanging stuff off RV ladders, like bikes, LP Tanks, BBQ's etc always seems to be a contentious topic. I always figured it wasn't a good idea as they are designed to handle the weight of a person, but that's a pretty mono-directional load. Whereas strapping something on there and driving makes the load much more dynamic, which it wasn't intended to be for. So just curious what your real world experience has been? Thanks!
Thanks, no problems at all so far even in windy conditions. Its strapped on there quite tight. I can see the edge of it in my drivers side mirror just in case and haven't seen any movement. It weighs 46 lbs. I'm near 200 lbs. and have used the ladder for over a decade so not too worried about it handling the weight. When I go up and down the ladder I'm not always that static either. ;) Also, last summer when I redid the rear corner seals at the same time I added new larger screws to the ladder mount points so they are quite firmly attached. Cheers, Ray
@@LoveYourRV Thanks Ray! Yeah, I know what you mean. I've had a couple "Cirque du Sole" moments on mine as well! LOL! I suppose one has to factor in the variables in mounting from manufacturer to manufacturer as well.
You bet and these days I wouldn't 100% count on them dudes at the factory actually screwing into the beams or supports on the other side or assembling the ladder right. :)
Your in my back yard!!!!! I'm telling ya, the bugs are terrible out there. We go there on the early spring before they come out. It's our shake down trip for the beginning of the year.
I visited the island in May 2019. It was a bad time to be there. The flie swarms were terrible. You couldn’t be out of the car for more than a couple minutes.
