I love your videos! I came to Canada at about 6 years old on vacation, but only stayed one night and headed back to US. This video has sparked my adventurous side and I would love to visit as an adult. Thanks!
❤❤ Ray, having drove the big trucks for 29 years, one thing truck drivers try to avoid at any cost is blind side backing. That's when you have to back in on your right. It's most always better if you can drive past then turn around and back in on your see side or drivers side. I'm sure you are a pro at backing but, when you under stand your trainer pivots on the tires and know your tail swing, you shouldn't need help (as much) backing up. Love your videos. Thanks for your quick responses.
Yes, not much choice sometimes, though when the campgrounds are near capacity. Its a good skill to learn as it opens up more campsites that people avoid. Rear view cameras help, too, especially on the just slightly angled blind back in campsites. Cheers, Ray
What a great video, what an awesome place. We got back to Markham, ON last week. Although we didn't RV, we spent 6 nights in Port Alberni at a B&B. We combed the island as best we could in that time. We spent a day in Ucluelet/the park/Tofino. The lighthouse trail in Ucluelet was very scenic, day trips to Nanaimo, Campbell River, Qualicum Beach, and all points in between. 2 nights in Victoria, sigh. I can't get over how beautiful the island is. Thanks to some info you imparted I would love to take my Cougar to the island. Thanks for posting 🙂
I've gone fishing out of Uclulet a couple of times. I had a fantastic time on both trips. Had a couple of 40 lbs. + salmon, some Ling Cod, and a good size Halibut on the decks. On one particularly flat trip, we had to pull in our lines because the Humpback wanted to take a look at us. I'll never forget making eye contact with one.
Great video Ray. Furthest west I ever made it was Comox, on the way back to Powell River. That was in 1986, during Expo. Your video makes me want to go back.
Great video and very timely for us!! We are leaving Ontario tomorrow to head to the Island likely for the winter unless the border restrictions change. My wife wants us to visit Tofino and Ucluelet before we settle in Nanaimo for the winter months. I am somewhat hesitant to drag our rig across the terrain and construction but the beauty shown in your video would easily sway me to do so! Thanks for putting it together! Can't wait to explore it in person!
Loved the long periods of quiet (no talking), made for an interesting video. Have you ever found treasures beach combing these unpopulated beaches? Such as debris from Japan's earthquake/tsunami or a tennis shoe? Thanks Ray!!!
Ray, those boardwalks are also to keep people from walking willy nilly over the vegetation. If you go up Port Alice way and go to the various karst formations (Eternal Fountain, Devil's Bath, etc) where there isn't significant boardwalks in and around all you get is dirt...or mud. Doesn't take much or many feet to really exact a toll on the forest floor.
Thanks Ray. I really like how you start out by showing us where you’re going on the map and then you take us on a walk. It’s so interesting and pretty there.
Felt like going home - we lived in Tofino in the early 80s. Love the beaches! Interesting to see the road construction along Kennedy lake. It will be a big improvement when finished.
I tent camped on long beach , back in the late 70’s it was a lot of fun , some unlucky people would drive there cars or trucks on the beach get stuck and after the tide change no more car ! The beach would just swallow it , haven’t been there in decades, I even heard there is pay parking lots now , shame.
I remember tenting on the beach as a little kid in 71 and seeing all the cars driving out there. They still do that on some of the Washington and Oregon Beaches. Our family of 5 and two dogs packed into a 56 Chevy Belair and went on a big summer vacation from Flin Flon, Manitoba. Long Beach was one of the stops. Now it's 20 bucks a day for the NP pass which includes parking or $100 for a season pass.
The land border is open to Americans headed to Canada but still closed for Canadians headed to the States. The US government didn't reciprocate when Canada opened its land border. Not sure why. So we are just waiting to see what happens.
Can't wait to explore BC next year on the northern leg of our loop around the US and Canada. Ray are you going to the desert this winter? If so, which area. We're leaving SoCal at the end of October. Hope to see you out there.
We are planning to head down if/when the USA decides to open its land border to us. So far they have kept it closed to non essential travel even though Canada reopened ours to Americans on Aug 9th. So may be wintering up here again.
@@LoveYourRV Sorry Ray. Covid politics is worse than the disease. No consistency or accountability. Especially here in California. One reason we're leaving. Hope Ann is well. Happy trails.
The site you originally reserved, did you try going out of the campground and coming back in the opposite direction? It looked like the site was at an acute angle to the road the was you tried it, if you backed in from the opposite direction it would have been an obtuse angle, and maybe easier to do. I've done that many times in provincial parks here in Ontario, despite signs that may say "one way".
Nah, didn't even bother, we weren't even close, have had the same 30 foot trailer for 10 years now and know when its hopeless. :) Also, my trucks a crew cab long box so is 21 feet on its own. With the long wheel base it takes a fair amount of room to turn things. I even thought about going into the site directly across from it and backing straight across since the people were away but I knew that was a no go as well, to narrow to forward into. Just not enough space. Afterwards I noticed that there were no long trailers in there, most were 20 foot or shorter. They need to make things more clear on the website.
