I honestly like the story of this one more. All 3 are definitely interesting and rank high in my game lists, but i really enjoy the relationship in this one.
@@johnj4471 I think I'd simplify it as Bioshock 1 has the best story from a storytelling perspective and is more creative while Bioshock 2's story is easier to connect/identify with and is better from an emotional perspective. I don't think either one is better than the other, they're just very different.
@@Volth from a writing perspective, the first is better only because of the major swerve involving Atlas true identity, but the second is just as good, it's just an easier story to follow as you pointed out. mainly because of the father, daughter dynamic you get with the big daddy and the little sister. but it's also because one of them was designed to be a main character, in Bioshock 1 the little sisters were just another part of the crazy bizarre world of rapture, but in Bioshock 2, we become very familiar and personal with a girl named Eleanor. not gonna leave a spoiler in case others haven't played it, but she looks like a little sister but there's something different about her. well they had to make one of the little sisters look like an important character, if they gonna have a major role in the story. i like both about the same in terms of story, so I'd say there even in that regard, but where I'd say Bioshock 2 falls a little short, it's the gameplay itself. how everything was structured and put together, it worked flawlessly in Bioshock 1. in Bioshock 2 i like some parts better, others not as much. the shooting feels better in the original, but in Bioshock 2 it's easy to get swarmed by a mod of splicers, and the annoying part is when you have to let the sister down to harvest. now hacking was one of the few flaws of the original, they weren't impossible, but it wasn't the easist thing to get through because there was a timer. in Bioshock 2 they simplified it by having the player time a certain pattern, instead of trying to line up the right symbol, you just have to hit the green marked areas in order to hack, but if you hit the wrong one bots will come at you. so i like that part, but i miss having the ability to switch between plasmas and your weapons. I also think the melee combat side of it was a little lacking, you would think having a giant drill would do more damage, but that pipe in the original can help you even during the most difficult parts of the game. in Bioshock 2 you don't wanna get caught in a splicer fire fight with a drill, because i died the first time i played this. one on one can get you by, but not if you have like 5 or 6 coming at you.
I had a lot of people recommend that I skip BioShock 2 and I'm so glad I didn't. It's SUCH a great game! I think you'll love it just as much as the first one ☺
Cyn: "Kinda love the amount of ego it takes to make your own amusement park and just name it after yourself..." Me: "Side-burn Walt Disney?" Also, hey Cyn! I honestly didn't expect you to move on to Bioshock 2 so quickly! I figured you'd take a break until at least after the holidays
@@TheOsamaBahama WHich makes Rapture a twisted parody of what EPCOT was originally supposed to be, with a little bit of Atlantis thrown in for good measure.
No, you're not strange. Rapture is one of the most memorable settings in gaming history. I know people didn't like B2 as much but I really liked what they did with Lamb. She's a polar opposite to Ryan in her philosophy and yet just as insane.
I really liked the second Bioshock, because it allowed for a true melee build with the drill and the correct passives. Really made me feel like a Juggernaut :D. Also, the power combo electro+melee is much stronger in this game, considering...well you are a big daddy and punch much harder.
While Bioshock 1 was an amazing game, i spent more time in Bioshock 2, It's gameplay was just better and more fun. And i loved the story. Hyped to see you getting into it :D
37:09 if you let them talk, they talk about Jack and how he escaped rapture and is probably "living it up with the can can girls" while the others have differing theories on the ending of the last game.
I never understood why the sequel receives less attention from players. I always appreciated the internal perspective as much as Jack's external one. Kevins 4 life.
When I watch people play games and they're like, "They want me to go this way, so let's go this other way." I can't help but imagine the same scenario in real life. Like if you were at a theme park or something. There's a sign pointing you towards a ride, and the person you're with says, "Oh let's go this way" but you're like, "No. That's the way they *want* us to go."
You play games just like I do! lol I need to explore every corner of every room too. I felt your pain when you couldn’t explore the rest of the train station 😂
It's great that you've jumped straight back in. Not sure you'll be as pleased with the amusement park when you see the ride. Also when you are underwater keep a look out for sea slugs, you can get Adam from them (not much though). If I remember correctly there aren't any in that first underwater section so you haven't missed any yet.
Jumping right into the deep end, sweet. Congratulations! your a daddy. I'll try to mail you some cigars to celebrate. 😉 Yeah, it's been eight years since the events of last game and Lamb is a very different kind of antagonist then Ryan or Fontaine were and honestly a more creepy one in my opinion. Wish there was more Tenenbaum but you'll see what she's up to in the Minerva's Den DLC.
Im so excited for this playthrough! I think 2 is the one I remember the least because I replay 1 for the nostalgia every year or so and Infinite is so much more recent in my mind. I do remember really enjoying 2 though and I can't wait to reexperience it vicariously through you!
I love the Bioshock series. All the lore and stuff are so good! I love your eye for little details and also you keep an eye out for small things as well so great job on your first playthrough! Hope you are having a great weekend and I hope you enjoy Bioshock Infinite! ^_^
That first encounter with the BS doesn't require any action , she'll attack you , but you won't die. You'll have a sliver of health remaining , it's just a "tutorial" showing her skillset.
55:35 "Kinda love the ego it takes to create an amusement park and name it after yourself" Hoo boy, wait until I tell you about this feller named Walt Disney!
Loved these games back in the day when they came out, played with the missus - thank you for playing, it brings back memories :) Glad you're enjoying it!
The point of the andrew scene was that he was trying to break his son out of the 'would you kindly ' code by putting his own life on the line, unfortunately it was pretty foolish too think jack would snap out of it.
sophia Lamb's backstory is a little complicated and i can't remember how much of it is mentioned in B2's audio diaries. Basically Ryan brought her down to rapture to be the clinical psychiatrist to help people who couldn't cope with living underwater. For a while that was fine but then Lamb started questioning Ryan's way of running things so yeah...you can guess how Ryan felt about that. Bioshock 1 took place in 1960...Bioshock 2 is 1968...so 8 years later...but Sophia Lamb was around during Bioshock just not in the game...only in the backstory.
I was JUST thinking about replaying this for the first time since shortly after release. I might just enjoy it vicariously through you instead, especially since it's your first time. It's nice to wind down to.
It straight up told you on the screen "trap rivets will NEVER fire against you". (emphasis theirs) 😆 I'm hoping you figured this out somewhere down the line. Also, it pays to know what the things you pick up do for you. You keep grabbing cigarettes - they reduce your health! And grabbing all the food, which gives health, when your health is already full - maybe leave that for after you've fought a few splicers, then go back and grab it rather than having to use a first aid kit, especially since you can only carry 5 in this game. Just ways to be smart with your supplies.
Others have already commented about the Minerva's Den DLC; I concur, it is great. Especially since you actually get to meet Brigid Tenenbaum up close and in person. I consider her to be the best hero in ANY game, even if she is just an NPC. But the Den will pluck at your heartstrings, hard.
hey I know you are already well ahead in this game from here but wth i'll throw out some things anyways, 1. those scenarios you played at the end of Bioshock 1 where you defend the little sisters while they get adam from the ' angels" is a mainstay of Bio2 so traps are your friends , get the trap plasmid as soon as you can and upgrade it. 2. trap rivets never fire at you, and if i remember right you can pick them up and reuse them. I went thru tons of those 3. Big Sisters suck, def. hardest enemies between Bio 1 & 2. 3. Have Fun !
I'll add: unlike the first game , you can't return to previous areas in this one. So , explore thoroughly, because once you get on the train and pull the lever or go through certain bulkheads, that's it.
If you want ALL of the Rapture stories, do the dlc for this game and the dlc for Infinite! BTW - You can pick up active trap bolts to add to your ammo stores, or if you put them down and they aren't triggered.
I was more than half way thru bioshock 1 and realized how absentminded I was when I’d space out with all the audio recordings. I started watching ur videos to catch up on all the details I missed. Now that I’m on bioshock 2 I decided to to play it on the same pace as your videos so I don’t miss any plot points….well I found myself channeling ur detective powers soon after I started the game "hmmm….I don’t want to trust you tennenbaum….if that’s your real name. You and I need to have a talk"😂 am I doing it right?
If I have the ability to create a new save every time, I stop at three and just overwrite the oldest save. Keeps them from piling up and using up all the memory, and you don't really need a save file that's more than two hours back.
9:58 I know this is very late but I just wanted to point out Jack never became an actual big daddy. He just made himself appear as one to fool the little sisters. If you dive deeper into the lore of big daddies, you'll see the process is irreversible. Dr Suchong in the original game even says once you become a big daddy, it's a one way street. Only the alpha series prototypes can be reverted back.
You should hack Health Stations first before breaking them. Blue hack is 1 First Aid Kit and another 1 for breaking them. BS2 makes hacking convenient. Pretty sure you are done or almost done with BS2.
You should also only destroy health stations if you're leaving an area and need the medkits to top off or you're in a pinch. Hacked health stations typically heal you for the cost of roughly half of what a medkits costs and they hurt any enemies that try to use them (and they will) usually resulting in a kill. You can also get a gene tonic that makes them completely refill your EVE making them even more useful.
I've been watching the reactions for the twist in part 1 and wanted to see what you think of 2. although I'm super late to your vids, I enjoy you named the bots Kevin 😆. BTW you could cheese the big Daddys in 1 with 6 trap bolts, kills them instantly every time. it's also how I took care of Fontaine in the final fight
Glad to see that you discovered breaking health stations provides health packs. I didn't want to say anything. But I assume someone let you know. Or maybe you did figure it out for yourself. I discovered it on my third playthrough of the original. Love the original. It's the only game I have ever earned the Platinum trophy. Played it on 360 multiple times, and the remasters on Xbox one and PS4 multiple times. Keep doing what you are doing, and your subs will continue to grow.
Bioshock 2 is the most intense custody battle since the conflict in World War 2 between Fatherland Nazi Germany and Motherland Russia fighting over Poland. Sophia Lamb is the ultimate KAREN! Also Bioshock 2 multi-player mode is the fall of Rapture depicting the Civil War between Atlas and Ryan.
I didn't know you'd be going into Bioshock 2 right away. lol. I know you've recorded these way ahead of time. But just a quick FPS tip: Always reload your weapons after every engagement. After watching your entire Bioshock 1 playthrough you often seem to get into a pinch at the start of fights because your gun isn't reloaded.
i still think the first was the best of the series, but Bioshock 2 i always felt was a bit underrated. some things i can understand why, Bioshock 2 is not as creepy as the first, but it's still Bioshock. so you can expect plenty of odd and weird things going on, if i had to pick one thing i can see how it fell short of Bioshock 1, it's the gameplay itself. the story in this is still good, just as good as the first even though it's a bit more lighthearted. that's why the little sisters look the way they do in this, but the gameplay is where it falls short. now maybe they wanted to make it more challenging, but i like how it was set up in the first, you get all your adam and plasmids from machines or little sisters if you harvest them, which i only did once just to see what the bad ending was like. i couldn't harvest all of them, but you don't have to harvest them all to get the bad ending, all you need is two. but in Bioshock 2 the gameplay can be hit and miss, i also noticed how the shooting feels a bit more artificial, in Bioshock 1 it was fluid, i also miss the wrench. the drill is nice, but it doesn't have the same feel, alot of times you gotta get up close, and they throw alot more splicers at you in this game, and most of them shoot. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the hacking system in Bioshock 2, but people did complain about it in the original. so it's not as complex in Bioshock 2, but if you make a mistake and hit the wrong thing, you'll get bots sent after you. other than that, this is a fun game.
I'm beginning to become very sus. Are you a vampire or something? Posting super early like this. I'm on to you, Cyn 😂 Seriously, appreciate the dedication of pumping out content this soon after ending BioShock. Time to save your daughter as Mr. B!!!
00:25:15 "I'm not ashamed to admit that I would be one of the people who would be lured in by the grandeur of Rapture." Oh, same here -- I mean get rid of the splicing and the Ayn Rand schtick, and I'd be the first to volunteer to settle in Rapture.
Really enjoying your channel - some good quality gameplay. I've played Bioshock 1 & 2 so many times it's refreshing watching someone else experience it for the first time. Also, have you played Dishonored, which has some similarities to Bioshock?
This has to be the prettiest Big Daddy Rapture has ever seen! Good choice, Cynth, all Bioshock games are masterpieces. Got me subbed for series completion! Don't forget the dlcs and good luck. it's gonna be a helluva ride.
I bought the 3 games a few months ago when it was on sale but I didn’t start playing it until about 3 weeks ago. When I finished the first one I immediately wanted to replay it because I loved it, but I decided to go on to the second one. I loved it too and immediately went on to Infinite and loved it as well. I can’t choose one as my favorite because they were all so good. But after Infinite I did replay the first one and still enjoyed the heck out of it. I’ll soon replay 2 and Infinite. The only thing I have to complain about was that they changed some of the PC controls between them. Oh and 2 makes my laptop run hot.
This is my personal favorite out of all 3 it’s the most refined world and combat wise but it doesn’t have the story bioshock 1 has. But you play as an alpha series throughout this game which is the very first version of the big daddies
This is honestly my favorite, it just sucks the levels are so short. Wish they were larger. I never did watch the Bioshock 1 gameplay but if you didn’t know already, you can light alcohol bottles on fire and use them as Molotov cocktails
You play in Rapture before the downfall in Burial At Sea, the DLC for Bioshock Infinite. But you have to play it last, because it's full of spoilers of all the games.
It's weird how Hypnotize went from just tricking Mr. B into thinking you were a Little Sister, to full-on mind control. Also, Hypnotize didn't work on aggressive Big Daddies at all in the first game lol. Guess Alpha Series just really stink.
Subject Delta (protagonist with the symbol of Delta on his hand) is another protagonist, not Jack, you will get it further "Mr Bee" - Mr Bubbles it is just how lil sisters calls their guardians because they are looks like bubbles Hope you will listen most of diarys because they contents important history of the city, characters and plot Hard difficulty is a bad choose... But ok goodluck
One thing I like is that while you could play the original using just wrench and plasmids, it was kinda hard and the guns were pretty darn powerful, whereas in Bioshock 2, melee and plasmids are more viable on their own than before (especially with the right tonic setup). You could honestly forget about the guns in this game and not run into difficulties.
Absolutely agreed. Also, you might like to use the environment more. Throwing barrels and the like gives you a very effective weapon. Especially over a pool of oil :-) Carrying a large object will reduce incoming frontal damage. That's why the game gave you Telekinesis so early.
The drill is one of the best weapons, especially with the tonic (or upgrade ?) that allows you charge your enemies like a Bouncer Daddy. Distance no longer becomes a problem with melee !
There are multiple ways to beat the game. I've done a Bouncer run , Rosie run , plasmid run , machine gun run , no little sisters run ( after the mandatory first one). Same with the first game , there are multiple variations you can try to challenge or amuse yourself.
The character you are playing as is what is known as an "Alpha Series" They were another variant of the big dadies. Not going to say more so you can enjoy it yourself
Everyone love bioshock 1 because of the twist. But I have found that one you know the twist in 1 it's not as good as 2. That's why I consider 2 the best in the series.
These older games are excellent, unfortunately Ken Levine had nothing to do with this game, but still very good. You might consider playing the grand-daddy of PC games ... Half-Life ... it basically started the PC game industry. I'd start with Black Mesa, then Half-Life 2, then Episode One and Two
