Sad that these old Pioneer Homes were just left to rot away. These buildings could be restored to their original way if someone cared.

Hi Gail people do care but its money that is the barrier, this one being part of a land conservation trust and a community icon. No one wants to spend the money without owning it and the community wont let it go to an individual as every one would like to own it and if they cant have it then no one can situation as it should be everyones in the community to share. It is sad.

I tried to restore a cabin for free and was told No by the county commissioners...I was ready to invest $75.000 to original restoration and wasn't allowed to do it... makes me sick too see our history rote.

I think the cabins and the house should be restored where they stand would be a great place to visit.

Beautiful location with view of the surrounding landscape. Those pioneers worked hard to survive and prosper. I thank you for the video.

@18:12...I wonder why there was a full size door on the 2nd floor, above the bay windows??? It doesn't look like the door may have went out to a balcony or porch because there's no indications of a previous balcony or porch ever being there.

Probably for air flow in the summer and to get beds and furniture upstairs as the stairs are quite steep and tight

Wow what massive effort but so lonely! a hard life! signs of hardscrabble hard toil with little reward cardboard lining wood heating ...no chainsaws! shakes on the roof (leaks always needing fixing! ) no books? only hard simple life! and pretty recent too aluminium paper reflective foil "insulation" @ 19 48 wonderful log work on the old buildings would be lonely for raising family big country COLD WINTERS ...nice to visit NICER to go home!

please put a tin roof on that structure. it can and should be restored. a little exterior paint would give new life. a solar system could provide enough light and heat.
@campcrackatinny
@campcrackatinny Год назад
Unfortunately it belongs to a nature conservancy and not privately owned so unless someone private steps up and donates a roof it will be lost eventually which is really sad

There's no info on family or who lived there. Are there no archives on this for research.
@campcrackatinny
@campcrackatinny Год назад
Hi Debbie unfortunately very little is known about the personal lives of the original owners just basically their names and that it was a central cattle homestead for the area in its early time. This is all I could find except the legend of the rancher killing his wife in the newest structure from a local source which was burnt down with her in it but I am unable to substantiate this story. www.cariboord.ca/en/recreation-and-leisure/knoll-house.aspx
