When I was 18 back in 1971 I stayed on Mykonos at a beach called ‘Paradise’, where there was George’s taverna. It was a nudist beach with lots of American students with whom we partied in the evenings. Such fun for an innocent guy just out of a boys boarding school! We swam out to a rock to sunbathe. I met Jill, who was 28, and I’ll never forget those 3 weeks! ‘Super Paradise’ was the next beach, for ‘gays’. We slept in bamboo shelters at the back of the beach, and shared an outdoor shower with the folk at the end of the day. Bliss!
What a terrific adventure! To stand where so much history occurred...just fascinating to think about. You all bring me my happiness from afar. Thanks so much!
I went to Greece in 2019 and visited Delos. So beautiful and an amazing experience. We also went to Mykonos, I could totally live there. I actually liked it more than Santorini. I need to go back.
Greece has the most amazing and beautiful architecture. The contrast between the white and the blue is just breathtaking- My father's family is from the island of Crete. I have begun planning a trip to take my wife and kids. Alright Bobby and crew may you have safe sails and continue to have the time of your life.
I saw Delos last week. I watched the Alan Ladd ,Sophia Loren movie A boy on a Dolphin and Delos made an early appearance in the movie. Great classic movie. If your adventure is anything close to theirs you'll have a cool time.
At 8:00 AM, in this case, the Greek military is raising their flag for morning colors while their national anthem is played over the loudspeakers. If other militaries are stationed on the base, their national anthem will be played, too after the host country's anthem is played. The color guard will stand and salute all national anthems until the last note. Reveille is played to wake up the troops/sailors.
I was in the Air Force late 70s, early 80s... Used to ride my bicycle to work most days... When I'd hear that bugle start to play, I'd stop my bike, get off and stand at attention, rendering a salute facing the nearest visible flag, or just facing the sound of the music...
During RIMPAC In Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, you rushed inside to avoid morning colors, otherwise, you would be standing and saluting for a very long time until the last anthem was played. Needless to say, the salute was looking very pathetic towards the end. 😆
I agree SVDelos is an awesome boat, and an awesome channel, but in this case they are refering to the Island near Greece. I love Florencia (SP) in these videos! She is just SO cute! Hope to see her in more Sailing Doodles vid's!
That's why they call Mykonos the "windy island"!! In the summer, mostly July and August, 30kn winds are very very frequent, even 40kn and 50kn. The Aegean is usually a very windy place in the summer! The kind of glass-like calm seas you experienced in the first days (we call them 'bounatses'), are a rare sight in the Aegean. Enjoy your travels!!
Absolutely love Greece and the Greek people but unfortunately with the pandemic and being diagnosed with fibromyalgia last year we haven't managed to get back yet......Hopefully back very soon though. Love the videos guys xx
Mykonos, the wind island, the Meltemi, as we call it, the breeze that whisked Odysseus away from Troy to his legendary adventure, the same wind that whisked Agememnon, Nestor, and Achileas to Troy, the same wind that whisked Andonius into the hands of Cleopatra in Alexandria, the same wind that led Western civilization to explore the Mediterranean from the coast of Anatolia to the narrows of Gibraltar the Heraclian gate as was known back then
Hi Delos, I have watched your videos since you started making RU-vid. And I loved your brother Brady, because he always gave energy. You did this for many years and Tyler is the last person onboard, that also gave energy to your crew. Of course, so many between. But the last, since you have been alone, it haven’t been all that fun to watch delos. Is more well let’s pretend we are doing something. But you never gave a proper introduction to your new friends at sea. Some of them you spend a lot of time with, but I was always unsure, are this the same people I saw in previous videos. Not very easy to follow, when you don’t know peoples names, so really not great. I hope your new crew will lift my spirit. Thanks
That's why Mychonos is called the island of the wind... there's a name for the winds there but I forget🤣.. awesome video guys, well done again 👏🏼 🤙🏼🇿🇦 from Adrian in Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
That was probably the Greek National Anthem being played while they raise the National flag in the morning as due most military of every country. 0800 for the USA.
Having visited every country on the northern and eastern Mediterranean I never cease to be amazed at the 1000's of tons of stone moved to build cities with only muscle power. And shaping the stones precisely with only bronze and untempered iron. Those workers had to be fed. They didn't look for scenery. They wanted defense and water supply
I took a guided tour of Delos in 2006. It's beautiful!! And they explained that there were distinct ethnic neighborhoods in the city. I think there were three or four ethnic groups that peacefully lived together on the island. They took us through the different neighborhoods.
Isn't that piracy to maroon the captain on a desert island? I'm sure you'll make them walk the plank because at this time of year the Med is COLD... shiver.
Sorry to spoil it for you but the paint thing is a council / tourist thing they make you do it before each season walls with footpaths white and windows and doors red or blue
Ugggg, couldn't watch it... the camera work needs... uh work. Guess Steph wasn't the only one having a bad day. Panning crazy town of dizzyness and instability.
