Hey folks! Thanks for tuning in. This is a continuation of my recent Mexico trip, and in this video, we'll explore Playa Del Carmen.
Playa del Carmen is located on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean seashore. Located in the heart of Riviera Maya's coastal area, Playa del Carmen is almost exactly in the middle between the cities of Cancun and Tulum, just about 35 miles from each town. Playa del Carmen is also the take-off point for Cozumel Island, with ferries departing every hour.
As a coastal resort town, the best attractions of Playa del Carmen you'll discover near the beach. And despite it being one of the region’s largest and fastest-growing cities, Playa del Carmen is easy to navigate by foot.
The primary pedestrian street in Playa Del Carmen is the broad La Quinta Avenida, OR "5th Avenue" which runs parallel to the beach. The five-mile-long pedestrian walkway is lined with hotels, shops, art galleries, restaurants, bars, and clubs, making it a popular nightlife spot. In addition to street performers and entertainment, you’ll find some hidden gems, such as Mayan cultural sites and even a freshwater cenote. While there’s no shortage of fantastic dining options along Fifth Avenue - including upscale and international cuisine, some of the more authentic options are scattered on the surrounding side streets.
Parque Los Fundadores, also known as Founding Fathers Park, is a large oceanfront park located in the center of town on 5th Avenue. The main attraction of the park is the sculptures. You have probably seen photos of the Portal Maya, a 52.5-foot-high arch sculpture of a man and woman in bronze. It can be a perfect frame for a photo with the ocean behind it.
I happened to visit this town during a famous Jazz festival which attracted thousands of people from all over the country and travelers.
