Hello guys! Let’s visit the Santuario della Madonna di San Luca ( Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Luca ) by San Luca Express train here in Bologna , Italy !
San Luca Express train is the tourist line created to connect Bologna’s city center with majestic Basilica di San Luca. For further information you can visit the Official Tourist Information Site of Bologna.
The Santuario della Madonna di San Luca is one of the symbols of Bologna. It is an 18th century church located on top of Monte della Guardia overlooking the city center on the other side and the hills of Emilia Romagna on the other.
The Basilica is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. As a matter of fact the Basilica’s treasure is the image of the Virgin with Child. Bolognesi say it protects the Bologna so they asked the contruction of Portico di San Luca ( the longest portico in the world , about 4km long ) to shelter the Madonna during its annual descent into the city.
Aside from being a tourist attraction , it is a welcome sight from the autostrada when you go to Bologna.
So when visiting Bologna don’t forget to include the Santuario della Madonna di San Luca on your list! You can go by riding the San Luca Express train or if you have more time consider going by foot because you will walk along the Portico di San Luca and stop anytime and anywhere you want and enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the hilly countryside!
