What a beautiful house. I never knew Charles Dickens had 10 children 😮 Absolutely love the large White dressers and cupboards in the Kitchen and Preparation room. Wish I had a home big enough to have a Dresser. Especially Love Welsh Dressers. Thank you for sharing another video of a place I would never get the chance to see. 👍😊
Hello Sean, I’m new to your channel. I live in the USA. I’ve never been to the UK but my mother’s paternal side came from the Chafin (Chaffin) family who’s ancestor owned Chettle House in Devon. It was once open to the public but is privately owned now. You mentioned another spot to visit. Since you asked for ideas I thought you might like to visit the area of Chettle!? Maybe you could discretely knock on the Chettle House door and ask to borrow a cup of sugar, feign dehydration and the need of a glass of water, or just explain how you have a nosey subscriber who’s ancestor built the place and would love to see the restored Baroque interior ( I’m joking!) Joking aside, it is my dream to travel to the UK,…until then I enjoy watching and learning from those, like yourself, on RU-vid. Thank you so very much for your commitment to bring educational, insightful, and entertaining footage (of one of the most beautiful countries in the world) to us who dream of being there one day.
Oh yes, almost forgot, I recommend you visit Dylan Thomas’s home in Swansea. Geoff the owner will give you a guided tour and even make you a cup of tea and serve cake in the kitchen there. I was taken there as a Mother’s Day gift one year. His house in Laugharne is also worth a visit. It’s a lovely sleepy place.
I was there last year. It’s a beautiful house. Lots of loo’s on the property.😂 The stairs were a bit of a struggle for me, but I was so glad to have finally made it there. It was a wonderful experience. I sat out in the garden and enjoyed a pot of tea and some cake. I felt so emotional standing by his writing desk and seeing the copper. As most people familiar with A Christmas Carol will recognise the copper is mentioned where Mrs Cratchit cooks her Christmas pudding in hers. It’s absolutely worth the visit here. The suit in the dressing room was on loan somewhere else when I was there. I’d have liked to have seen it in person to get an idea on how tall he was. I didn’t see the gravestone and plaques you’ve shown here. I was sat at the first table and didn’t know they were there. It was quite busy,so I didn’t want to walk around past people enjoying their refreshments. I’ll have to go back there again.😂 Did you know that geraniums were Charles Dickens favourite flower? Great video Sean. ❤
Yes, Sean, I'm a big fan of Lewis Carroll and visited Oxford University when I was in London. I would love to see more places he may have frequented. As for Charles Dickens, he visited The Golden Lamb in Lebanon, Ohio, near Cincinnati, while on a speaking tour of America. I have actually stayed in the bedroom that John Adams, a US president, stayed in right across the hall from Dickens. I think I was awake all night waiting for Marley's ghost! 😂
As a woman, I wouldn't have tolerated ten children. Leave me alone!!!!!! It's horrifying the expectations that were put on a woman. It's no wonder womens suffrage was a huge issue. Here in the US, we face it again with Roe vs. Wade being overturned. I'm disgusted by this. So many women died or committed suicide due to overuse of them. Leading a simple life as you are demonstrating is so wonderful.
