Visual Supports For Behavior Management 

This video is SO helpful! I am an Early Childhood Social Worker in NYC supporting Early Childhood teachers. We have so many students now who are non verbal and/or on the Autism Spectrum in our "General Education" classes and teachers are overwhelmed, understandably. I have been working with teachers to develop visual supports, and I really appreciate the content you share here, as well as the mindset (assuming best intentions, staying calm). so happy I watched this video, we have several students who throughout the day run out of room, run down the hall, one student especially every transition and any school work related task is melt down not sure what to do. I am a para, so I am needing more direction the teacher just says shes going to call his grandma and sometimes that works and he will stop crying.

This was very helpful. My son is 12 and we started homeschooling him last year and I have learned so much. As I say that I am just learning ways to communicate with him. We are waiting to hear the results of further testing but recently he was diagnosed with several which makes learning extremely difficult in a typical classroom. I just found your channel today and I am soaking up every bit of information that you are offering. I am perplexed why his speech therapists never educated him/ me/ us about first, then, or any of these communication tools. We have been struggling for years. A couple of weeks ago I learned about the Adaptive Binder and we have been doing the "morning pages"; he is engaged and having a nice time. I finally feel that we are headed in the direction that works best for him, which means it works best for all of us. It all seems very elementary but it is where he is at. Thank you very much. You have changed my life.

Thank you so much for this and all of your videos. I am a teacher, but have always done gen ed. I became certified in ESE by passing the certification exam and have begun my masters in ESE, but it is slow going and I have a lot to learn. I am also a mom to an autistic 4 year old. I was looking for practical tips I can use in the classroom now, instead of waiting until my masters is finished. I have learned so much from your videos and I'm so excited to implement quite a bit of what I've seen in your videos. +That Special Educator Mrs. Braelan , Yes , Yes , and a million times Yes , use visuals . Also , to help with calming the student down , find out what they enjoy in life and talk to them on what they enjoy regardless if it is outside of the school or educational field because that could be the thing that will calm them down and turn a student's bad day into a good day in minutes . Use those things as visuals too . Some of My Teachers came around to using what I enjoyed to bring me to positivity and work with me on what they were teaching me and as a former autistic SPED Student in Shelbyville , Tennessee , I'm telling you first hand that it works . And really , My only eloping event was one time in My High School days at a vocational school or what was now a vocational school and it was after class and I was just too heated at that teacher after I swore under my breath and the teacher heard it and the teacher screamed at me to go to the office and I wasn't having any part of it after being broken down to tears for a whole day in that classroom because I pulled out something to draw on after I got done with my work in class because drawing cartoons was how I coped with My School Days and My Teacher made me put it away and she saw a bit of My Wrath and after all of that I almost made it to the bus to take me from the vocational school away from this teacher to My High School just to have the bus leave me there and knew from that point forward I was cooked . Like I could not wait for that day to be over . Otherwise , I have only dreamed of eloping but never eloped from My Teachers and My Schools . When I was supposed to be in school and in that classroom or where ever , that's where I was regardless if it was a bad day or a good day . - Dwight

Hi I used visual aides for myself I have Boardmaker and i make tons of visuals from calming visuals with visuals with rules on them and a token board which i use at work I am 24 olds year

Hi Everything is fantastic, but how do make your lessons more accessible (for visually and hearing impaired)? That’s a question I had trouble addressing on one of my grad assignments, and I felt sooo bad, because I do not want them to feel excluded or uncared for. However, my population is comprised of preschool children with Autism, and she (my Mentor) did mention a few cases of visually impaired students as well, thanks.
