Deviate is a brand from Scotland that has been developing its unique high-pivot platforms since 2016. Founded with the mission to create a better bike with a design far from the norm, Deviate's inaugural bike, the Guide, was born. Centered around a high-pivot platform, 12-speed Pinion gearbox, and available only in carbon, the Guide was the foundation for all future Deviate models.
Fast forward six years to the launch of the Claymore in 2022, Deviate's first push into the Enduro category and their third bike design as a company. Receiving high praise early on, the Claymore has gained a lot of traction with the recent growth in the popularity of high-pivot bikes and is proving to be something special in the world of Enduro bikes.

We stayed right at the base of the mountain, courtesy of Visit Big Bear, and couldn't have asked for a more convenient way to spend the week testing bikes. With our condo less than a minute from the Snow Summit village, we could easily head back to our unit between laps and had plenty of space to work on our bikes. Regarding the pivots, i can confirm that ive not had to change a single bearing in nearly two years of ownership of my highlander. Ridden all year round in scotland and its held up unbelievably well, they've got the pivot design nailed.

Deviate seems to really have high pivot dialed. My main issues with them are the insane pricing (a run of the mill XT build with Zeb/Vivid or 38/X2 and DT Swiss EX511s is north of 10k) and the massive differences in sizing, a size M is 460 reach but a size L is 490 reach, which creates a gaping sizing hole for riders who are 5'9" to around 6ft. At 5'10" I find 490 reach to be flat out way too long, but 460 reach borders on too short for anything but jump lines and easy stuff or on a DH bike.

I don't think I've ever seen a bike with zerk fittings on the pivots. That would make pivot maintenance a breeze.

been on my claymore for a year now. I'm 171cm the bike is M size and it feels huge to me. Can't get used to it. The rear end feels heavy and I'm struggling to name it playful bike

I find it odd that the only test bike was a XL, are they all 6'5" or something? Sounds like it would be the perfect bike for most of the testers if they were on a Large instead.

I'm 6'3", Lear is 6'4", and Jonny is 6'5" and if you watch the rest of the videos from this year's test sessions, this was a common complaint of ours about the various bikes, not just the Deviate. We told the six companies our heights and weights and we tested the bikes they sent us based on their recommendations. The only bike that no one complained about being too long was the Nukeproof, which was also the shortest bike on test. So maybe that says something about the trends in the bike industry, or maybe the three of us are just weird. Your call.

@charliesponsel5091 I'm 6'5" and agree that the lengths of bikes today are too much. The bike has to fit the rider but it also has to fit the terrain.

@@charliesponsel5091 Yeah even the size L Claymore is like Pivot levels of long AF. 490 reach and they'd recommend that to a 5'10" rider, as a 5'10" rider I find a 490 reach bike to be a pain to corner because you basically have to hang off the front deliberately rather than the natural riding position keeping the front weighted like on my 475 reach RM Altitude.

Claymore owner here as well, they do indeed rock. Whats this you say about e-gearbox? Is the upcoming Deviate ebike gonna have the pinion gearbox & motor?

@@Awaitingparts just the original Deviate had a Pinion Gearbox, so he was saying it would be cool to see one with the e-gearbox. They have not said that's a plan.
