For the horse gear, it's better to just do the horse races than to spend money, since they can be pricey even mid-game depending on how you manage your finances haha. By winning the races in Skellige, you'll get all of the Zerrikanian equipment (blinders, saddle and saddlebags), and you'll only need to upgrade it when in Toussaint. You can also get a very nice saddle by beating the Ofieri merchant from HoS (the one close to the Runewright) in a horse race, which is better than the Zerrikanian one by 5 points -- truly no need to spend money on horse stuff. Also, one can get a mastercrafted wolven chest armor for free in the vicinities of Kaer Morhen, just needs to explore the place (won't give many details to not spoil stuff, but it's in a cave and is tied to a secondary quest). In any case, I recommend to anyone who doesn't want to deal with having to upgrade any witcher set into master or grandmaster to just get whatever you're using up to superior and later, when in Toussaint, get the manticore set, which can be crafted in its most powerful form (on par with grandmaster gear) out of the gate with regular dimeritium (much less work involved) and, along with looking really cool, is perfect for a powerful alchemy build. I personally always get my trusty feline set to grandmaster, but I also always craft and use the manticore one as soon as I get to Toussaint and until I finally decide to make the damned enriched dimeritium for the grandmaster cat lol.

I would recommend these few imo important mods from NexusMods to make Geralt`s in-game life more comfartable: "Over 9000" = this mod changes Geralt weight limit to 9000 as standard or up to 9110 together with a top 110 max inventory weight saddlebag ... and no need for the general perk "Strong Back" anymore and you can use its place for a better perk "Fast Travel from Anywhere" = you can fast travel to any signpost from anywhere on the map without standing next to one "Next-Gen Auto Loot" = this AutoLoot eliminates the tedious loot interface and helps you by automatically looting the items you set it to loot ... I use it in the standard to automatically loot items only after killing foes, monsters and so for example to avoid trouble with guards if you steal or loot near them "Auto Apply Oils (Next Gen Compatible)" = a mod which automatically applies the most effective oil at the start of combat

Actually maces and axes get better money from the armourer than the blacksmith! Anything that contain a lot of wood.
