After cleansing my face in the morning, I use litelextra rice berry Vitamin C face serum. My feedback after using it for three months: 1. Not greasy 2. watery consistency 3. blends easily 4. excellent quality 5. saw glowing results within a month of use Definitely recommended. Also, I do apply retinol in the evening.
I've found niacinamide has improved the texture of my skin. Vitamin C has mostly improved my skin firmness and not much effect on dark spots. Thank you so much for mentioning vitamin C and skin shedding! I have that issue.
The vitamin C that caused skin flaking on me was Timeless 20%. I’ve not used it in 18 months. I get Niacinamide in EltaMD UV Clear sunscreen and Agency Future Formula.
I'm team both. I use walgreen's version/dupe of cerave vitamin C serum in the morning. I then use the real deal cerave AM moisturizer with SPF. I have tried the store brand dupes of this and with my older skin I like the thickness of the cerave one over the store brands. At night I use either the actual cerave (purple label jar) night moisturizer or the walgreens version. Both are great to help buffer my tretinoin. It was my struggles with using tretinoin that had me find this channel. I have shared your videos on KP with my sister and she has reported great results with the drug store products that you recommend. So thank you again!!!
I've been using both but not on the same days. My skin at 73, I think looks like it's benefiting from my care. But with this information I'm going to start using just niacinamide, as the Vit. C can be a little harsh on my skin. I also use either CeraVe or the Elf night cream or the one with SPF during the day. Great information. Thank you.
I've used the CeraVe knock-off from CVS as a daily moisturizer and I have no complaints, but it doesn't state the percentage of niacinamide in it, or how much of it is in there. For that, I've been using the Sephora brand's "NiaZin" toner ($14), which contains 5% niacinamide plus zinc (listed as the second and third ingredients, after water). I'm not a big fan of toners, and would like a more serum-like product, but for the price, it's definitely a good purchase, in my opinion. Another thing about the liquid consistency is that I feel most of it gets wasted on a cotton pad, so I've been sort of "splashing" it on my face while it's still a bit damp after cleansing, and it's been lasting me a while. Just my two cents. 🙂
Niacinamide for me. I use the Paula’s Choice Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum in the morning with Niacinamide and a form of stabilized Vit C, and Vit e. I use Elf Holy Hydration before Tretinoin in the evening, it also has Niacinamide. Most Vit C serums are too irritating and I don’t have the patience to babysit their short shelf life.
i have used that pauls choice product for years!!! if you look at the ingredient list , i dont know why you would need anything else!!!!!!! i also use lots of sunscreen and retin a....seriously, wha else do you need?? keeps it simple..such a great product
@@paulachristie7807 I'm another PC fan! Great brand and they often have sales which makes them not as expensive as they first seem. In fact I have 11 PC products still unopened laying around thanks to their sales xD
I have super sensitive over 60 skin and have never been able to use vitamin C in my skin products until I switched to Naturium products a few months ago. I have been using the Multi Peptide Advanced serum (has ferulic acid and niacinamide) at night and the Multi Peptide Moisturizer (has encapsulated methylated vitamin C and niacinamide) during the day. I have seen a real difference in my skin texture and brightness without irritation. I also have started using their retinaldehyde cream serum at night with the Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream as the last step. So far, I am impressed with their products.
Hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission . I'm glad that is working for you. Since you have hyper sensitive skin like mine. Let me suggested a vitamin C serum it is from SKIN DEVA. 🙏
For me, I find that with the timeless co-enzyme Q10 serum I see results. I’ve been using vitamin C serum of the same company for quite some time few months I guess it’s working.
You mentioned that 3% and 5% were the levels used in studies. You then recommended Cerave PM and I contacted the company and they said the amount was proprietary. This leads me to believe it is very little. Why wouldn't they share how much there is especially if there are studies backing up the amount for results. Seems like a little bit deceiving to me.
Skinceuticals CE ferulic in the A.M. after washing, following with sunblock and Trianon in the P.M. has changed my skin for the better. I love both these products.
Like the comparison! I use PC 10% niacinamide. I also use Cerave PM moisturizer. Plus I use other products with niacinamide. Wondering if just using products with niacinamide is enough and maybe I don’t need a separate topical
I am completely new (at 66 yrs old!) to all of this and am still quite confused about how many basic products I need. I have started using a Vitamin C serum but after this video, I will switch to Niacinamide once I am done. Thank you so much for explaining the difference.
I have to be very careful with Vitamin C. I have no problem taking it orally and it’s not problematic. I can have niacinamide topically without incident or irritation. It works really well for a multitude of reasons.
Doctor Andrea what a great video 😊❤. Loved the comparison between vitamin c and niacinamide and the slight differences they have in their way they act and work on the skin. Definitely I'm on team Niacinamide because there is no reason 😅 it just is perfect ingredient for me ❤ and the la roche posay lipikar Ap+m baume the original and the light version are so great both for face and body. The CeraVe is also one of my top favorites light in consistency, absorbs well and helps the skin stay hydrated 😊. Have a great day Doctor Andrea ❤.
Wow! This is an excellent video! Dr Dray does a fantastic job of explaining these formulations! Thank you, Dr Dray for caring about the public and providing accurate information. By the way, you are looking fabulous!
Wow! Now that's a deep dive into skin tx. I am going to have to watch at least twice more to fully understand. Thanks Dr Dray . . ps - the sky is calling . . let's exit aircraft!
I used niancinamide for a while and it didn't really do anything to my skin. I have loved vitamin C, it's so powerful. I have sensitive skin so both irritate a bit sometimes, I don't really notice a difference there.
I am team both too, I currently live in Japan and I use Melano CC Premium Vitamin in C every am and I use a Nameraka Honpo (which you made review a couple of years ago) they recently release this version with isoflavones and niacinamida night cream. I have lupus and have sensitive skin and melasma and I used to have a lot of pigmentation and now my skin is better than ever... but also I take care a lof of the sun so not sure if it was those both products or UV (Currently using beauty of joseon, hada labo or klairs uv) . Did you by a chance tried already Melano CC products or Niacinamide version from Nameraka Honpo?
Is using niacinamide serum at night enough, or do we have to use a moisturiser with niacinamide in the morning as well? Also, can I use glycolic acid toner before I use vitamin c?
Nice review Doctor! I have a question that is totally unrelated to this. What is your opinion on Amiro U1 Ultralift Skin Lifting Ultrasound Home Device? Many have attested to its skin rejuvenating effects but they are non-medical. I hope you can review this product most especially on its long-term effect - if it would accelerate aging by destroying the skin’s deeper layers.
@@db-gb5xi Yeah but since they have a patent, these products arent exactly the same. Not that they don't work bc some are great. But companies using too close to their formula have gotten sued and had to shut it down. I expect a whole slew of actual dupes coming to market.
I USED VIT C TO GET RID OF MY MASSIVE PIMPLES FROM A SKIN CREAM Which I GOT RID of too Still using Apple Peptide cream and Bakuchiol for wrinkles and it's working thank God I'm a Gramma The Facial exercise works so well my jaw line and smile lines with wrinkles are packing their bags and more than less left Lol
Is there one or a few bottles of something that has every great ingredient that you had so far taught us? I want a few less bottles of all these great ingredients. I’ve been making a list and it’s now a long list.
Greetings Dr Dray hope u r well n 🖐Hello Every1 n Happy Monday😀n what a Wonderful Vid…. thanks n This is Gonna b so Good🔥👍n Continued Blessings to All💜….
i quit using vitamin c as I saw you could not mix it with other serums i use. i use salicylic acid & retinol on certain areas of the face. could i use a niacinamide instead?
Hi Dr dry I pray God you read my comment I have meibomian gland disfunction I stopped using acretin what i can use instead for my face iam 50 years old woman and i used acretin for 6 years now iam having a 3 degree dry eye disease. Please help
Niacinamide has helped me overall with small wrinkles but I will say Vitamin C definitely brightens my skin a bit more! So I guess both being used is beneficial
PSA for everyone with atopic skin: criminally underrated niacinamide product that I will never stop using (I have rosacea) is Bioderma Atoderm Gel Creme. Best gel creme on the market. Super gentle, super hydrating and is amazing under sunscreen. Also, the bottle is huge.
Vitamin C vs Niacinamide: Wrinkles. 1 x 1 Hipergmentation 1 x 1 Photoprotection 0 x 1 Acne and Rosacea. 0 x 1 Skin Barrier 0 x 1 Glycation 0 x 1 Vitamin C: 2 vs Niacinamide: 6
Great information! I have repeatedly tried Vit C in a variety of formulations and my skin just didn't like them, but I kept on trying because I thought it was so important for my skin! I have been using Ceravie PM moisturizer for years without issue, without realizing that niacinamide was providing some of the same benefits. Yay!
These major channels are always pushing CeraVe. The moisturizer I saw from them contains alcohol, which is something many should avoid. Why is this 'national and global treasure' pushing such a product?
If copper is necessary for an enzyme that makes pigment, does that mean it would actually be counterproductive to use a serum with copper peptides if you struggle with dark spots (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation)? 😨 Because I‘ve been doing that… 😅 And I really love this serum, but I‘d like to treat the hyperpigmentation, not make it worse!
Dr Dray, do you know anything about the future of HAA299/ 'Bis-(Diethylaminohydroxybenzoyl Benzoyl) Piperazine in sunscreen formulations? This UVA+HEVL filter has been approved for a good while in the EU, but alas, no sunscreen formulations yet. Do you have any tea on this one? Cheers!
When I use anything with niacinamide, my skin looks like I have a sunburn. No problem with Timeless 10% Vitamin C. My skin is definitely firmer and brighter.
I enjoy using both. Niacinamide at night and vitamin c in the morning. After trying several vitamin v products I finally found one that I love from Geek and Gorgeous. It is super affordable being less than one third what I had been paying for Vit c. Also they make a new batch every week so when yours reaches you it is only two to three weeks old so it stays fresh much longer than other brands. I also love the results that it’s giving me.
I feel like I'm in school again and I love it. You are such an amazing teacher. I love learning about the skin. And all that you have to offer and then applying what I need. Thank you so much for taking the time. You're just beautiful and adorable and I. Enjoy watching you pretty much almost every day when I can
I had to stop my Vitamin C when I had perioral dermatitis. After that cleared up and I talked to my dermatologist about introducing skincare back she said she doesn’t recommend Vitamin C. She said none of the dermatologists in her office use it. So I stick to niacinimide now.
Thanks for the clarification of overlap and differentiation of these two ingredients. As I approach 80, my skin noticeably yellowed, and I could not find and explanation for it. Good to know it's not something to worry about.
This info was so so helpful. I’ve tried the most gentle vit c’s and my skin gets drier and more sun sensitive despite slathering on SPF50. I am now happy to rely entirely on niacinamide as its actions suit what I want ie addressing pigmentation, helping with aging skin and not being irritating. I have mature dry skin.
Niacinamide all the way for me. Good Vit C products are just too pricey to use long term. Thank you for always delivering such thorough, informative, scientific material. Yer a dermo Queen!
This is very interesting, a couple years ago I started using a very basic vitamin c serum (from garnier) just out of curiosity and it helped a great deal with acne, I thought it was some other ingredient in it but with the information in this video it makes sense. I continue using it for that purpose but I'm 37 so I'm glad it is providing some antioxidant properties as well. Thank you for all the info!
Thank you for the content, which is always very informative and based on scientific evidence, fact that helps us a lot to make better decisions regarding the type of product that best meets our personal needs! Excellent job, Dr. Dray! Team niacinamide here!
I started using niacinamide serum and my face turned red, is it normal? It doesn't itches or anything but my face is hot and it looks as if I had sunburns idk if that's something normal
I'm team both. I started using Dr. Karams trifecta (which includes a bottle of vitamin C) in the morning. Then I use Niaminicide in the evening. Definitely planning on purchasing the Cerave night cream. Thanks as always for your awesome videos. As someone who works in the medical field, I also appreciate how you talk about the mechanism of how things work! Cheers.
I tried SkinCeuticals, but I don't see any difference compared to Paula's Choice vitC booster. They're both great and deliver the same results at a different price point :')
