Yes I can also thoroughly recommend Sean's book. He is a super talented insightful 'young man.'

I definitely agree that excessive preoccupation with excessive sharpness creates a sense of violence or aggression, a kind of phrenography almost, towards the photographed subject, leaving no room for the observer and the photographed to be intimate with the secret.

Excellent Frederik!!! I completely missed this Video! So ignore my message to you and my suggestion! However, more videos on other publications wouldn’t hurt! 😊 Brian Peterson is very accomplished, and that is a fantastic book, that has something for everyone. ‘Telling the Story’ behind an image, is a great talent, and always makes for good reading. These are good and would serve just about anyone well, and I like how you provided the links for them. ‘Photography and the Art of Seeing’ is a cherished book in my collection! I might eventually learn from it! 🙄😂 I have had people tell me I should write a book, and have considered it from time to time? But then I think, who would read it! 🤔🙄😂 It is probably same reason I really don't get into Social Media all that much. I may have to reconsider that sometime down the road. I think you may be too hard on yourself, describing putting your Photos on your walls, but I get it! All of us, as Photographers, are and SHOULD be! The quote of “would you put it on your wall,” is apropos, but can also either intimidate, or hold back some Photographers. Not every Photo we all take, will be Medal worthy! Regarding Sean Tucker, and the subject of ‘Feedback, and C&C, well, I have seen it so many times on so many forums. People can be very harsh, and everyone wants to be an ‘armchair critic,’ and it grates on me. I have seen decent photos put on a forum, and the Photographer asks for C&C, and invariably, some ‘person’ will rip the image, and/or the artist, to pieces. ( Probably why i avoid these places ). Of course, without any input/guidance/ criticism, how can someone perfect their craft? My dad would always tell me, “You should be wiling to take some Constructive Criticism!” I will not elaborate on this… 😕 I’ll wrap my comment with, @ 16:51 by what my Wife always tells me, “Every image does not have to be super sharp, or technically perfect, as long as it captures the moment, or conveys an image/thought, “ etc etc. She is smart, and the point is taken. 😉👍

I follow Bryan Peterson and Sean Tucker, and they are indeed inspiring! I am not as familiar with the other photographers you mentioned, so I will have to look into them. Vermeer has such fantastic light, as does some of the work of Edward Hopper, and they have probably inspired my use of light more than I realize. Thanks for another great video, Frederik, keep them coming!

Really interesting video, thanks. Please excuse this little plug, but I’d like to recommend an autobiographical photography-related book called Life Lit Up, by a friend of mine called Mike Hartley. I found it very entertaining and incisive regarding how different kinds of photographers approach the craft.

I have 2 of the books you recommended in my collection [ Bryan Peterson + Freeman Patterson ] - I have 5 x Michael Freeman books but not the Bible - I have most of Bryan Peterson's books . My wife once counted my books , well , a rough count and she reckoned I have 3000 hardbacks and maybe 1500 paperbacks - our house is an old croft house and I really shouldn't have bought so many books but what can I say ....I'm an idiot .. If I may suggest a couple of other informative books - For beginners I'd recommend Scott Kelby's Digital Photography 1-5 collection - I found them very helpful along with Peterson's ' Understanding ' books . Another Photographer's collection of books [ I have them all ] I enjoyed are those by David duChemin - more intermediary than beginner's . For Nikon shooters I'd recommend N-Photo Magazine . If this post isn't allowed please delete . I could talk about books ALL day .
