I LOVE discovering new music! I have never heard of Vítězslava Kaprálová until today (February 11, 2019) when I was researching Alphonse Mucha. As I listen, I am saddened by her early death: what a tragedy to lose someone unique with such an original sound. At least we can enjoy the music she *did* leave behind-- such beauty to enhance our lives.

How is being taken at the age of 25 "poetic"? Oh, I think I get it:-"twenty-five" rhymes with "unalive"!

This concerto teems with life and originality, drama, passion, humor. I don't tire of listening to it. The slow movement seems a trifle short, but the lovely trio episode with violin and cello in the finale makes amends.

Premature death of Kaprálová is not a great tragedy only for czech music, but for music in general.

I agree with other comments about this composer, we must have missed so much fantastic music due to her early death. The way she mixes the orchestra with the piano is a pleasure to listen to.

Meraviglioso questo è il genere di musica che vorremmo ascoltare sempre non l'insignificante musica di certi compositori moderni.i direttori artistici dei teatri mettano questo genere di concerti.

Amazing! Almost an early(!)work, sounding romantic at the opening but quickly developing to more 20thCentury astringency.A touch of Hindemith, particularly in 2mvt.Most enjoyable, the performance bringing out the best. "Entusiastico" indeed!

So far as I can tell, the second-most tragic early loss of a composer (the definitive remains Arriaga, who could have been the greatest composer of Basque origin (I know about Ravel) or Spain's answer to Beethoven. Arriaga was that promising. Thank you immensely for this contribution.

Kapralova avait 15 ans..

The "second" one is the "Partita" for piano and string orchestra, but yes, it is a second piano concerto in all but the title. It is a more neoclassical and modern piece (is a later piece also) tha the first concerto, and is much influenced by Martinu's own style, but with a special touch.

Обнаружила её благодаря дурацкому сериалу " Моцарт в джунглях" . Только ради этого стоило его посмотреть. Трудно поверить что автор этой музыки умерла в 25 лет....столько в ней глубины....

Yes, but mind you she was only 20 yrs old when she composed this one. Obvious at that age to be one among dozens of Rachmaninoff imitators / followers and write a "retro" concerto. I have heard other pieces of Kapralova that are more "mature" (piano solo, for instance where a composer does not typically need to show up as an "official" one "de concert" and can release better his/her intimate, more autentic mood). In conclusion, yes, this piano concerto does not add much more than a pleasant listening, but, again, Kapralova wrote way better stuff and - yes - her premature death deprived history of music of a potential great and mature composer to be included in the XX century hall of fame

@@pietrolandri6081 I feel that referring to this as a 'Rachmaninoff imitation' (I know that's not quite what you're saying, but it's close) is just plain unfair to the music. It is very Romantic, but there's a lot of the style that's obvious in later Kapralova poking through here. Maybe not quite as obvious as in her later works, but absolutely there.

@@pietrolandri6081 I suppose that's fair! I can't say I know her other works (or this one) that intimately, so I can't comment on which I prefer myself. I can just hear some of the later personality very clearly here :P
