The benevolent act is just crowd pleasing. Criminals have always thrown crumbs to the average people around them. It's a trick that works while they continue to murder and steal.
Exactly. And turned it into the biggest imported olive oil company in the US. Not to mention using the olive oil trucks to haul booze during prohibition. And made his son his Consigliere, which was another master-stroke in building his empire. _The Godfather_ is easily one of the very best books I've ever read. Very hard to put down.
I love the level of respect. He is learning how things work. This guy is just a small guy. He got to play it safe. Vito only remembers how he was treated and stays with that.
1. I wish they would have showed his lunch in this clip. Classic. 2. You come up under someone and that someone takes care of you, you never forget. 3. You never bite the hand that feeds you. He had to go or else his "hand" would have gotten bit.
Down at the bottom small curtisies and kindness can endear or get you loyalty from people that sometime down the road youd like to have as a friend. Its a dangerous friendship but you never know when you might need to get rid of somebody
I would disagree. His accent is weird, with the wrong rythm, stress, and pronunciation. The other sounds like the Calabrese dialect (Sicilian and Calabrese share common roots and are quite similar) but is absolutely spot on and perfectly understandable. De Niro isn't so easy to understand
the cinematography was really beautiful,a sepia tint reflecting the time period, this and Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon are the 2 most beautifully filmed movies of all time
He more likely forced him to be a front for his crimes and would've severely beat and eventually killed him if he hadn't complied. That's how scumbags operate.
One thing I respect about the America-Italian Mafia: they are the only Mafia ever that never EVER touched each-others family members. They did that in Italy but never in America. So if you think they’re violent, it was only between people that sign in to be in that life.
hey'all , Sollazzo said "I think Islem Is A Peaceful Religion ; and Indeed Allah is all merciful and Profit Moohamhead is his apostle" thats the translation of Italian communication between Sollazzo And Michael Corleone, If anyone wondered, (film Godfather)
Russians who lived in the beginning of that century didn't know it would be pretty funny to talk that way in the end of the century. Great archetypes, great cultural phenomenon that even we understand on the Wild East. Great story!
Absolutely not true. Plenty of Italians speak like this. It's a mix of age, dialect, region, relationship to the other person. Here they are speaking in a sicilian dialect (De Niro's not so good, by the way) and it's not unusual to hear people in such context to speak slowly. One more thing could be that De Niro clearly has a script memorised, can't get the rythm and stress right. I don't recognise the other actor but his dialect is spot on and perfectly believable.
