Out of all the millions of videos on RU-vid, this one here is one of my most favoured. I never knew who Vivian Stanshall was a year ago. I saw Canyons of your mind on "THE BBC". Love it and love Viv ever since. I just love the flow of his vocabulary.

I have first hand experience of meeting vivians shreink uncle george he told me that vivian was an absolute gentleman snd on a Occasion not so but i still feel he was an absolute lengend and still and always be no ones perfect folks xx
Vivian stanshall was KING HIPSTER! Four decades before it was even a known thing! And he had miles more charisma than any cool person could ever have these days, because he genuinely didn't care what anyone thought of him! And didn't "seek approval" of anything obscure he discovered unlike the selfie taking self obsessed tossers that pass for interesting and quirky these days! Broke the mould when they made him!!!!

They’ve taken down the entire “The League Of Gentlemen” series from iPlayer, one of the best comedy series that’s ever been made, simply because some Americans complained that the “Papa Lazarou” character was “Blackface”, absolutely ludicrous AND spineless considering it was nothing to do with “blackface”, made even worse after they said they wouldn’t cave in and take it down. They’ve also wrecked series like “The Young Ones” by omitting parts of scenes that contained “bad” words, utterly destroying the political points that were being made. And that’s only the ones I’ve noticed personally. So “brainwashing” is still alive and unwell at the Beeb.
The whole issue surrounding what makes us laugh and where the line is regarding 'offence' is incredibly complex and calls for a certain perspicacity that maybe less mature minds lack. If it were as simple as, 'this makes me laugh, what is there to think about?' Then all our lives would be simpler.

The only time I saw Viv was with the group Grimms in Liverpool in about 1974. It was wonderful and no-one seems to remember the group. There’ll never be another like him.
I saw Vivian at some college and he was pissed and hysterical. I recall him kicking the guitarist and dragging him to the floor during a horrendously bad solo. The main band was called Gaswork. The singer wore a crash helmet the whole gig. What happened to them?
Enjoying this fab documentary about the great Viv Stanshall and then seeing a lot of idiot comments by stupid trolls declaring he is actually the fake Paul McCartney in various guises!!! the worst thing is that this must be very upsetting to Viv Stanshall's family and friends as the poor man passed away in 1995.

Where to even begin with this video! I hate to toss the word 'genius' around like we tend to but I think Viv Stanshall was one in his own unique way. His way with words for one. I wanted to repeat some of the hilarious things he says with such deadpan seriousness but there's no way to do it because the whole thing is like that! I know. I am reading "The Memoirs of Billy Shears" and supposedly Billy Shears is William (Billy) Shepherd who created the character Vivian Stanshall and hired an actor/entertainer/singer to play the part of Vivian while Billy Shepherd played the part of Paul (after Paul's alleged death in 1966) in the Beatles. According to the book, Billy decided to end the character Vivian Stanshall after Linda McCartney was diagnosed with cancer, but the actor refused to give up the character. Billy then agreed to continue paying the actor for not playing Viv. Then in 1995 the actor died in a fire. It's all very strange.
@@knightwatchman Yeah i find it strange too but, it's explained as if it really is true, and i met someone who calls himself Viv's grandson, maybe it's the grandson of the last Vivian actor.

There were two Vivian Stanshall's. One was played by Bill Shepherd (Wallace? Campbell?) aka Billy Shears, who has played the role of Paul McCartney since 1966.
