It happened to me when I purposefully unplugged the side fan (in an attempt to have the projector make less noise). I suspect your projector does not have proper ventilation in the back or that a fan is faulty. The projector has 3 fans, 2 for cooling the LED heat sink on the side and 1 in the back that channels a flow of air onto the pixel screen. If that one is not working, it will do exactly this. Reference for people looking for a solution. This is definitely the LCD heating up. I just confirmed it while replacing the polarizer film on a Vankyo Leisure 3. I tried to move the polarizer film away from the glass so that it won't burn up again and put it right close to the LCD instead which wasn't letting the air flow on it. I placed it away from the LCD and the issue stopped.
