I think what Vivica said was very mature. Part of being a good friend isn’t just standing by them when they’re at their lowest. It’s also about having the courage to hold a mirror to their face so that they can see their faults. Not to be mean or judgmental, but to help them see truth so they can grow. It’s like she said will was on the verge of becoming the next Sidney Poitier. But in that moment he acted like a high school jock throwing punches at the class clown. Between this woman and amber, we are seeing a new wave of equality I think. That yes women should be protected but they can also be the villains. Many women have alopecia, I myself as a 38 year old, have a receding hairline, I have hair loss because I’m in the healthcare field and I constantly wear my hair up. There are many things to do about that and with money, you can do even more. I don’t really feel like she has much right to complain about it and justify this whole situation by making people feel sorry for her. It’s a touchy subject for many black women, who feel that their natural hair is not accepted. I think it goes beyond just the alopecia, it’s how much hate they get because of their hair. Women can get away with that. They are expected to and society accepts it. But I suppose as a boy I was supposed to man up and teach myself to be rational and analytical and stay out of trouble without any proper male guidance. So I always say to my fellow brothers, you better keep your head when dealing with women. You better look past the beauty and focus on the behavior; when they don't respect you, won't acknowledge you, when they make demands, emotionally manipulate you, provoke and nag you. So many toxic behaviors they get away with that men should address. And when you address it and they do not change, always be prepared to run quick and far to the hills and remember the three things that dealing with women will get you: Thrown in prison, financially broke and dead in the grave. We need a class for males to get educated on this stuff. There is one line from Gone With the Wind that I love when Scarlett O’Hara comes crying to Rhett Butler. I don’t think Jada expressing her discomfort at Chris’ joke was a signal for Will to slap him. I am however disappointed in her recent statement because in it she seems to imply that if Chris and Will didn’t ‘grow’ and ‘heal’ from this, they aren’t grown men. It sounded like she was chastising little boys even though she called them both capable men. Her lack of empathy for both of them is disappointing.
I think Jada knew what she was doing. I don’t think she wanted it to go down like that because what would she gain from all THIS. But I do think she was going to make Wills night or even the week or month a nightmare bc she was gonna be like “I can’t believe you allowed him to talk about me” and “ I can’t believe you laughed at his joke OF me” and toxic petty stuff like that. I agree with your first sentiment so much!! People have run with a narrative, based on small snippets. Yes she looked disgusted but no where in the sense of telling him to do what he did. I kinda disagree with the rest. I believe that in Jada's mind, she didn't ask her husband to do what he did so she shouldn't be expected to carry the burden of his actions.

Let’s not forget that this was a light hearted joke…even Jada barely reacted. Something is definitely wrong with Will Smith’s psyche and it’s been brewing for a long time. She certainly should’ve mentioned him defending her honor BUT also apologize (on his behalf) for his over-reaction…I’m sure the two of them had a conversation or two about the incident. You know their style of comedy. Will made a conscious decision to do what he did. Whether Jada rolled her eyes, sighed, cut a side eye at him or whatever...his decision to do what he did was on him. Point. Blank. Period. He could have chosen a better way to handle that but his emotions got the better of him. But when you look at it, it was really a blow for Black Hollywood. It was the first time in Oscar history that a black man produced the show, African American actors and actresses were being recognized like never before and the overall night was beautifully diverse! Will not only ruined his best night ever, but he pulled the rug from under everyone of color that was being honored that night...it's a sad state of affairs.
