Yes I do like the audio, crisp and loud. Being on a mountain top about 2 hours from the city accounts for the s0 noise floor. I have had too much gain in other homebrew receivers which results in distortion on loud signals. Guess this one worked out about right!
Jura Juric Hello there, thanks for commenting. I grew up with building radios, so for me building is integral with the hobby. SOTA helps to target my efforts. Enjoy your radio! 73 vk3hn
m0dad Hi David, I see you have built a TCF too! Yours is a fine build, and wise to not try to pack it all into a small space like I did! I am happy to screw the covers on and just use it now. It's been a lot of hours but I've learned and re-learned a lot.
@@msf60khz That's brilliant. I suspect operating on the sea beats operating on a summit, due to the almost infinite saltwater ground plane. But both situations offer extremely low man made RF noise.
This is a great radio! I know this is 6 years old now, but is there a way you could make a video or guide explaining how to make this exact unit? Or make it available to buy as a kit? Everything I've found is Morse, I would like to hear voices. Thanks!
Thanks Paul. I've built other SSB transceivers since, and the later ones (but not this one unfortunately) include schematics with enough detail for you to build them, if you have a little experience. Start here: vk3hn.wordpress.com/summit-prowlers/ I'm not in the kit business, there are some good kits for SSB transceivers, the closest thing I can think of is the Ozqrp MST: www.ozqrp.com/MST3index.html
byAlmad I agree, I still play this back and notice how remarkably quiet the band is, other then the signals of course No an made QRM, thats the great advantage of mountain top operating out of the big cities.
Al Alan The foundation is Drew Diamod VK3XU's TCF design. See the Summit Prowler post on my blog for a link to the circuit. Transmitter stages are from datasheets.
keegan 78 The circuit is Drew Diamond VK3XU. I dont think he would mind but I did not redraw it. Others have. If you search "7mhzxcvr4.PNG" you may be in luck. Its a pretty standard design for its type.
