Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia has developed and is testing a new line of strategic, nuclear-capable weapons that would be able to outmanoeuvre US antiballistic missile defences, suggesting a new arms race between Moscow and the west.

The first Russian nuclear engines for rockets were deloped many decades ago. Similar research was held in the USA, of course. But only now it has become possible to make it actually work in a sane way.

To be fair, this is not up to the par with MGS yet as Putin did not say that the new weapons can not be detected. It merely that they can not be successfully intercepted now and in a very long time. The same can be said about a hypersonic railgun that the USA have developed (though it is a bit easier since the shell does not maneuver). The moral of the story is that in a short while countries with good technology can protect themselves from "third world" countries, but not against each other.

.. no .. it is just normal successful launch.. It is part of "cold launch" system that only pushes missile out of silo and detaches from missile before missile main engine starts.
