Hello everyone! Welcome to this day in my life vlog--most of it ended up being me chatting about burn out, quitting my job and what it's been like becoming self employed. I worked in marketing for 2.5 years, and over the course of that time really burnt myself out. I'm now working a job ("job" feels like the wrong word. I'm not doing work) that feels properly fulfilling and makes me happy. And I couldn't be more thankful or grateful to you guys for all of your support. You are the reason I've been able to make this jump, so thank you 💛
I hope you enjoy the video! Take care 💛💛

A wise man once said to a young scared writer "It's ok to feel small, as long as you don't forget how big you can be"... I read "The House in the Cerulean Sea" because of you and Linus inspired Sal the same way I think you inspire us all 💛

Hello everyone!! Here is my little life update/announcement: I quit my job to do youtube and creative stuff full time!! 😭 It's all because of you guys that I've been able to do this. A big shout out to everyone over on Patreon--Patreon really was the big thing that enabled me to make this jump. If you're interested in joining our lovely little patreon family, there's bonus videos, writing updates, behind the scenes stuff, our monthly book club and more: www.patreon.com/christyannejones 💛 EDIT: a few people have expressed concern about me putting my laptop on a pillow. My laptop is a surface book! The actual computer/fans are in the screen not the base so thankfully it can sit on pillows and not catch on fire 😀

I almost had my eyes filled when you talked about 'doing the right things' even though you didn't like them that much. I was in exactly the same phase 6 months back, and I quit my job to work towards something that I actually want. It is a huge risk on financial independence, and I have nothing but my savings to make it. I feel so happy for you that you could take this step and escape from the burnout. Godspeed to you!

Ahh Christy!! You are such an amazing person!! This moved me to tears..T-T I’m constantly thinking about what I’ll do in the future and it’s really hard because everyone’s asking me what job i want to do..I tell them that I haven’t really thought about it even tho I do know what I want to do but I feel like it’s unrealistic..
@cindysage9110
@cindysage9110 3 года назад
Nothing is unrealistic. If you can dream it you can be it! Its really really true. I did office work for 14 years but my heart was always yearning to help people via natural medicine (herbal medicine and reiki etc) and combine that with creative work. 2.5 years ago I finally quit my office job and took a leap of faith. I started teaching drawing classes at home (i never went to art school, Im naturally good at it) and within 6 month I had people subscribing to my waitlist. I was that busy and people in my town really wanted me to teach them. I started to combine that with working at a shop for natural medicine 2 days a week and at the moment Im finally also following a 4 year study for natural medicine hoping to start my own practice in the future. You can live your dream.. it is really really worth the risk 😘😘😘 hope this helps someone!

I also am now self-employed. Had no idea I was going through burn out. Moved to a new job that I thought would challenge me more and keep me interested. 6 months later, I decided I’m ending my engineering career to do everything I want to do and spend more time with my dog 😄 and family, and get more sleep, and no commute. This is such an inspiring move, Christy! So proud and inspired by you! I remember chatting with you about it a while back and thinking how cool it would be if that was your full-time job as you're so so good at it =) I'm an Aussie at the end of an English Lit major (Honours) in a state that's NSW or Victoria, and the job prospects are quite terrifying, not going to lie so I related very much to that. Part of me is tempted by the stability of going on doing something like education or marketing, another part of me is desperate to be creative and explore my writing! I don't know what I'll do yet but definitely admire and love your decision so much. Your videos are so cosy and comforting - you're my favourite Aussie RU-vidr! All the best with your self employed endeavours!

Okay, I think I like you. This must be the second video where I see you and yeah it's real cosy, I like it. And you seem nice. And you have a very cool english accent, I love it ! It's so easy to understand you, you speak very clearly and it is just agreable to hear. For the hot chocolate : you are a weirdo yeah, sorry it's an entire cup of milk for me BUT at least it's lighter so... cool you're used to it ! I don't think I'd like it though. So strange how it's almost winter for you and how in Europe it's summer (though it's not a very cool weather, mostly rain for now). Anyway, good luck for your projects :)

Congrats on your transition! Just backed your Patreon and I wish you all the success in the world~! Also, as someone who works from home, using timers and having a strict cut-off time in the evening (no work past 6:30) has helped immensely with getting stuff done and enjoying the evening. As well as just scheduling time to do anything other than work helps a ton! I had a very difficult time taking my lunch breaks (well I'll be honest, I still struggle with this) but scheduling time to do something fun at lunchtime always makes the second half of the day easier.

You have the lifestyle I aspire to. You're literally THAT girl but make it realistic. I'm in that grind stage rn--working long hours when I'm not at college and then grinding away at school (I've also worked since I was fifteen because I had to start saving for my own college tuition). I got incredibly lucky because I'm able to pursue my dream degree (philosophy) and get a job (hoping to be a classical educator within the next five-ish years!). You're incredibly inspiring

I relate to you at an unreal level! I shifted from Computer Science to Communication Research in my first year of uni, tho I also considered taking Comparative Lit but decided against it for the same reason you did. Research seemed like it had a good balance between writing (which was what I wanted) and finance (…sort of). But after uni I worked as a marketing and comms person for a few organizations and I hated every single comm job. The whole marketing and social media sht is just not for me (goal-wise and skill-wise…) Even if I got more income from it, it wasn’t worth the multiple breakdowns and constant identity crisis I went through. Now, after 4 years of flitting about I finally have a couple of research projects ongoing and while I’m more tired than I’ve ever been (haven’t had a weekend in a month) I’ve genuinely enjoyed the past couple of months working on them. I’ve made mistakes and tripped over my feet a couple of times but I don’t feel the constant need to remind myself why I’m “putting myself through it” the way I used to do in my marketing jobs. I’m not “putting myself through it” anymore, I’m just…doing what I like. I’m in a completely different discipline for my grad school but I’m really enjoying a lot of what I’m doing, even when it gets difficult. I’ve never really felt this way about jobs or school. I’m not in that “happy” and “fulfilled” state yet but I definitely feel a tiny bit closer.

Cathy Hay is a great resource for personal growth. She’s mostly known for her sewing, but I like her self-help videos best.

Your story hits me, because I relate so much. I'm completely burn out because of my job. I just want to leave it, but I'm too scared to follow my dreams. I'm scared it doesn't work for me and I'd have to look for a salary job, and I don't know if I could stand a classical job anymore. But as you said in your video, if I don't try my dreams will never come true ! Maybe I just have to give it a try. Thank you for your lovely videos, it inspire me ! Greetings from France 💜

Omg this is such good news I'm so happy for you, Christy! 😭🥰❤ I'm opening an imaginary champagne bottle for you right now. 😁 I can really relate to what you said and I hope you'll feel better now and fulfilled in what you're doing! Regarding the cocoa thing: My grandmother also does her with water and milk in a 50/50 ratio and it's, somehow, really nostalgic for me. 😊 But oh NO Chloe Ting workouts - I've been doing one of her challenges for 2 weeks now and I HATE burpees too. 😭😂 So glad you enjoyed "Whisper of the Heart", I was also one of the people who thought you would like it, haha. Especially my writer heart loves it. I cried a lot when I watched it for the first time because I know this feeling of fear and imposter syndrome so well. 😅
