I'm also 28 and I really get this. It feels like I've been focused on accomplishing milestones - finish college, buy a car, move out, have a relationship, etc. I've sort of done everything that I thought I needed to in order to think of myself as a fully-fledged adult. Now I'm asking myself what I really want from my life, and how I want to spend my time. It's such a different perspective than I had when I was 18 or 20. I'm proud of what I've accomplished, but at the same time it feels like I'm back at square 1. All I've always seen on social media are young people doing young people things. Now that I'm here - I don't really have any expectations, but at the same time I don't really feel like I have any goals? I don't want to become so comfortable where/as I am that I never do anything, but at the same time I don't know what I want to do, and I don't want to still be feeling like this at 35 or 40, you know?
@tranquilbakergentletraveller
Hi Will. I love watching your videos to hear your thoughts and perspectives. I think "perspective" is such an important word here. I have heard that life is more about the journey rather than the destination. There are lots of people out there (myself included) that are not living the "conventional" life nor going through the "usual" milestones. My 20s were non-existent (I spent this entire decade at university). I only started working full-time in my early 30s. I just turned 40. I can honestly say that I haven't found my dream job yet. But I know what I want and I'm getting close. Things just take time.

It’s actually really comforting to hear that from those ahead of me. It makes me more eager to experience the journey than be fearful for what’s ahead. Hope you’re able to find your dream job or one that allows you to continue enjoying the journey!

Points here hit close to home- and it’s oddly comforting to hear how you’re choosing to approach and sit with the things you’ve learned about yourself and about life along the way... please keep wanting to wait for yourself ! 🙌

You know something, we spend half of our time worrying and fearing. But in reality it never happens. Don’t try to compare yourself with others. Start with short term goals while enjoying the beautiful opportunities at the present moment. People will only remember how you ended your journey. I know that in your culture, there is so much competition as to how much you look, what kind of job, the house etc… However, they may have accomplished everything but missed out on one of the most important thing which is called memories. You are doing amazing. Life is short. So continue doing what you value the most. P.S. Now that I have retired, I am more successful than ever. Why? Because I took one step at a time.

I am with you Will. It has been difficult to figure out our purpose in life, but it's a good thing to never lose faith. We are pressured to be successful or act a certain way for others to think how we should be. Some of us are still healing our family past, or our own past, and it's beginning to progress. All we can do is forgive those who hurt us, let go of who we don't need in our life in order to be happy. I'm looking forward to having a better year in 2023, spending time with family, make better friendships, and who else knows what might happen. :D

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful wintry day! (I miss snow at Christmastime too!) Perhaps your destination isn’t totally mapped out yet. But look at what you just accomplished! You just taught a bunch of kids that they don’t have to abandon joy once they reach adulthood. You showed them that it’s okay to take a break to slide on the ice, to build a snowman or to stand still and let the snowflakes turn their hair white. That lesson will follow them long after the snow melts. I’m not sure how Christmas is observed in South Korea, but I hope that your holiday is full of all the things that make you the happiest!

Yeahh the snow, although freezing cold, came as a blessing. Tbh it was the kids who reminded me of how much I love the snow and simplicity of life. I was just there to enjoy the journey with them 😊 Happy holidays and wishing you the best too!

Nice vlog! You aren't 'just' an English teacher, but a person in an authoritative position that the next generation looks up to. You model behavior they will imitate in life. Don't be so hard on yourself. You'll eventually get to where you want to be, though, it does appear as if you are living quite well hahaahah

I'm glad that you posted this vlog, I'm also going through this pressure of knowing what I love, what I want to do in life but honestly I just don't know. Sometimes we have this wrong ideia of working with things that we love and being huge, it's a beautiful goal but don't have to be a rule. Sometimes just having a hobby that we love, having friends e self love it's more important than being "successful". I work for a startup, doing something that it's not what I graduated for, but honestly I don't even know anymore if what I studied is what I really want to do 👀 bro it's hard

Hey Will. I wasn’t really going to comment, because you know me (bla bla bla, and I try not to be bothersome,. Failing miserably of course, but... lol) But what you talked was insightful (as always). 🎶You know, just the other day I listened to some wonderful music from the 40's and 50's type of music that is not really made anymore, but are only found in the archives because someone saw the value of taking care of it. And it made me think. Those days compared to now, it really seemed like it was less stressful. It was a simpler time on several levels. Today we live in a noisier society packed with issues from A-Z, issues and problems they never knew about because they didn’t have social media, 10 000 TV channels that spewed bad news every second of every hour of every day, from places people those days probably did not know was even on a map. Of course they experienced difficulties, financial and otherwise, we have all read our history. But even so, they certainly did have it easier on some levels at least. 📲No social media that scrutinize the lives of all human beings on the planet in seconds, whether they know it or not. If you don`t say the right words, if you don’t have the right look, if you are not rich, or got your act together, or if you are not fitting inside this perfectly, neatly packaged box marked “approved”, people will tell you. All the time. Without filters. Behind you back where you can not see who they are, or defend yourself. And if people don’t do it, then society in general will, by the standard it sets as the ultimate goal. Those days at least you could cry and be sad. You could trip over a rock, walk on the street just being you, and not be plastered all over every platform of social media all over the world, because a bystander happened to be there and decided they needed more likes and fame because; *"wow, look at that, dear followers, isn’t this funny? Come, disciples, let us laugh in a derisive way and relish in our own superior lives, laughing at those who are not like us”.* (Tik Tok, anyone?) 🔎No matter _how_ we live, _where_ we live, everyone of us is affected. A wise man once said; _The swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all._ 🌍And there you have it. No matter how successful everyone else _seems_ , no one can escape the world we live in. We can only use our free will to decide what we want to focus on, despite the outside noise that tells us to go with the flow. For some people that ‘thing’ is money - which will only give a false sense of security. Others focus on career, which doesn’t keep you warm at night. Then family, which has its own issues and is not always easy. Or perhaps self exploration, finding out who you are, where to go, which can end up being confusing also, because; if you don’t figure it all out after all _that_ , then what? Are we just failures that doesn't get it? Getting to that place where *you* find your peace can take time. And you know what, Will? You are only 28. Seriously, hellooooo - *28!!!* I was 28 once. That was 25 years ago, almost as long as you have lived. And let me tell you something; some people take a lifetime to figure things out, and some never do. And those who do, sometimes changes their mind beause, what they thought was "the thing" was not it. You are alive. That means you still have time🤗 And now I am going to ...🤐😶‍🌫🤫👋

Hey Will! I don't think you've wasted your time, especially in korea, living in korea, let things come into place when it comes, you're already doing great things. The only competition is you're self, English teacher? Seriously you've been in korea for while now and it feels like whatever but I am saying is not really, you get to live in foreign country with a different language and food. YOU'RE DOING GREAT! Just remember there can be other people doing worse than you somewhere in this world, live your best life in your 20's, as you get older, you can cant go back and enjoy and be selfish no can make you happy but yourself.

It's a valid stress, and super relatable. I hope that the decisions I keep making are the right ones, and that the stuff I'm doing won't be regrettable in my 40s and 50s. But everyone is doing that. We all just value different things and for me, I care way more about figuring myself out, and loving people in my life, than I do about settling down or feeling accomplished. Maybe someday?

If I’ve learned anything in my *xx* 😂 years on this planet is don’t look at other people. Comparison is the work of the devil! I lived my early life doing that and in the ‘race’ against others I completed my degree by 21, had a professional career at 22, worked abroad and ‘lived my best life’ by 25, got married by 29, lived in one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods in a global capital city and had money and opportunity to do whatever I wanted. But so what? Even after hitting all those ‘milestones’ I wasn’t really sure about my future and direction. And was I truly happy? Had I made the right choices? Not really. I was still searching for direction about my future life as I didn’t feel I was fully ‘there’. Wherever that is! Anyway fast forward to now and I got divorced, moved out of the exclusive neighbourhood and decided to pack a backpack and travel the world and live my best life for real! Point is I had ‘everything’ but it wasn’t what I truly wanted or needed. I had to reset my priorities and expectations. I now work for a very well known global tech company, I make great money, but more importantly I LOVE what I do and get to do all sorts of exciting and impactful things, I get to travel more, spend time with my family and friends and enjoy the ‘now’. I focus on what I do have and not what I don’t. It happened well and truly after my 20’s was over!! I now never compare or look at other and live in the present enjoying the experiences I am having. 😊

You're 28 and you're worried that you haven't sorted your shit out? Worry about it when your 40 or 45, not 28. Just enjoy the ride and stop worrying about where everyone else is in there life. People sort themselves out at different points in their lives based on who they are and the events in their lives. Stages, not ages. Never say you're just an English teacher. I've had students come up to me in public and tell me they miss me, that I've helped them, that I've made a difference. You're not "just a teacher", you are doing more than you realise. You're so hard on yourself. You should be kinder to yourself.
