My first Blackwings arrived: Natural, Extra Firm. I'm also enjoying Tombow 8900, Mitsu-Bishi 9852EW, and U.S.A. Gold - all these are superb as I begin to write again after decades away. Pencil in paper, everything is coming into focus.
FYI - These boxes of pencils are now $27 to $31 Dollars a box depending which ones and where you get them. You can do the membership for $99 Dollars a year.
Great video. I've tried Blackwings multiple times and I just can't fall in love with them. If I was going to use pencils, I'd probably go with Blackwing...but I'm often writing in my notebook while I'm "on the go". And there's nothing I hate more than writing with a dull pencil. Of course, pencil sharpeners are small enough to carry with you....but I don't care to have to deal with pencil-sharpening when I'm out-and-about. I just want to reach in my shirt pocket, grab my fountain pen and Field Notes and write. The moment a pen loses its "scratchy" feeling, I hate the way it feels. But, here's the real question: when did I become so picky about the tactile sensations of writing? LOL Great video, though. I'm envious of people who love pencils because there's something magical about them.
Nicely done and interesting! 33-1/3 is the record speed or RPM. Rotations Per Minute. That’s the tie to the record theme. Thank you I’ll have to try these pencils!
Saw this a few months ago and it inspired me to try them up, I’ve just uploaded the video. While I don’t share the same love for them, I throughly enjoyed the experience of trying them out, the matte and 602 especially nice for drawing. Thanks for the inspiration, I’ve linked back to here ☺️ fun seeing you explore your passions here 🥰☺️
@@SamDCote thank you, no need to return the favour watching mine but hope you enjoy it if you do. Apologies if I pronounced your last name wrong, I tried to find a video where you said it (unable to) but hopefully I said it correctly 🤞🏻 first found your videos in no small creator, haven’t had a chance but plan to catch up with your latest ones soon ☺️🙌☺️
@@SamDCote I had a 50:50 chance, oops, afraid got it wrong but we can blame Google here (how to pronounce names site misled me) my gut instinct would have been right 🙈🙈🙈 should have checked with you before I filmed but sometimes get caught in the moment to film right now etc ☺️ anyway thank you for introducing me to the black wing , great to learn about ☺️
Blackwings are cool pencils but they don't deserve the label as the "best pencil" just because they look great or because they are the most expensive (probably most expensive). I use pencils to write regularly and I collect pencils of all brands and lead softness degrees. I mostly write with HB and 2B. Well, the Mitsu-Bishi as well as Kita-Boshi (they are written with a dash) pencils are actually better IMO. They have nicer coating, nicer lettering, have most likely better wood than Blackwings. I just highly recommend those instead of Blackwings if you want an alternative for actual writing and not simply for collecting.
I just received by Blackwing 602 box (the most buttery smooth pencil on the planet, they should make 602 leads again for mechanical pencils) and sharpened it with Made in Germany precision sharpener (can't over sharpen engineering) KUM and then I tried it on the smoothest paper on the planet that has good anti bleedthrough and anti-ghosting (if those don't matter, the smoothest is a smooth onion paper actually and even smoother than that is photo paper but it'll surely smudge pigment won't hold X-D)... onto the smoothest paper in existence- Tomoe River paper, it's an amazing experience (onion paper is smoother still). This pencil coz' it's extremely expensive will be used for special illustrations and math stuff and drawing but maybe I'll just use it like it's affordable coz' I have 12. God bless, Rev. 21:4
@@SamDCote Hi, the best pencil and the smoothest though now is the way cheaper by Mudgrave: Test Scoring 100 It's sad coz' coz' Blackwing has the best design, I wish they would buy Test Scoring 100 and use Mudgrave's graphite. It's sad to use the Blackwing now coz' you can't go back once you use Test Scoring 100 (very unassuming but they did it, maybe by accident). God bless.
But, but, but WAIT! Why do you USE them? You forgot to tell or show us WHY. Just "smooth"? (Heh, heh, I DO know. For sketching and shading unsurpassed smoothness! )
