I would recommend keeping an Excel file with your personal balance sheet (on a monthly basis), and cashflows. If your bills start piling up in certain times of the year, your cashflows need to match (otherwise, you could find yourself overdrawn).

Why don't you just opt for paperless billing and set them up for autopay? Then, all you have to do is review them to make sure that there are no erroneous charges and you're set. You can have your desk drawer back.

Finance never clicks with me, even though I love math. I took a personal finance class through a community college online during my junior year of high school and during every test I would yell the hard questions to my mother in the other room.

That makes organization seem like a waste of time. I have a pile of bills I have to pay, once paid they are filed into the garbage

My relationship to money is much the same as yours. I don't care much about it except to get the things I need, like food and electricity. I wish we had a different system so that we did not spend so much of our time, energy and brainpower on finances.

I use mint to track spending. Tie up all accounts in one place, it's read only so no moving assets. Wunderlist to track bill reminders. Never use autopay unless they force me to, which I hate. Paperless unless they live in 19th century. That said I have 'miscellaneous' pile and 'trash' sort piles.

Your attitude towards money is so much like mine, in fact I noticed a few stark similarities between your personality and mine while going through all your videos :)

I recently started organizing my finances more which meant a trip to staples...for a document spike.
