These project “ wonder what would happen if I........” are my favorites. I am a big fan of the speed wrenching ! Reminds me of my halcyon days of trying to beat the flat rate book!👍
About the touching, man, me too! Back when I was still using a manual chair, I really hated it when people just grabbed the handles and started pushing me around. I know I have become somewhat of a grinch, but MAN! I have to grit my teeth to keep from saying ‘Get your hands off of me!’ It’s not like I can roll up to them, take their arm, and push them around, is it?
the M51 was my first chair, and for what it was, it did a good job, I got a solid 5 years out of it, even though where I live "indoor" chairs like that get kinda beat up no matter how careful you are. it actually made me kinda chuckle that you were in a C300 working on the 51, my next two chairs were C400's ( I am a big guy) before the VA finally realised I need an outdoor style chair, and got me the Frontier V6, that has been a real game changer for me.
My two cents, the forks on the casters will not accept larger wheels. So you have to mod them with a grinder and welding, or find some somewhere that will fit in the chair. (Not bloody likely.). So that makes it a much bigger project and not warranted until the build is going to be a keeper.
I went to harbor freight sat and got a few things for my trackchair winch lol and I had ppl run when I coughed lmbo. good fun I got a whole line give to me at checkout lol
Yes I have geared and worked on engines and belts and sprockets all my life and bigger tires mean more speed . I won't go into tourQue because these motors are already pretty tourquey it's all about continuous levers
by chance do you sale them? I am disabled and live on a camp ground that has sand. I can not do much because of it. I would love to figure out how to take a power chair to an all terrain chair.
BTW.... I am a bit of a gear head from 40 years of racing cars ,motorcycles atvs and driving big trucks. Off the top of my head ,my first thought is taller tires without changing the final drive gear ratio would give you more torque, but not higher road speed no? That thing really seems to launch hard with the tall tires. Might be an advantage in the soccer arena.
Love watching your vids and this is a classic. I was sure you were going to do your self some damage. Theoretically changeing the wheels should take it from 6MPH to about 8.5MPH but those motors just wont have the power even if you put bigger batteries in it. Did you say the Pronto had an Invacare controller, it looks a lot like a Dynamic shark controller?
I'm with you, I can't stand when randos touch my stuff. I don't want anyone unloading my shopping cart to put on conveyor either. Hey, I put it in cart I can take it out. But my question for you is, how come you don't shop elevated? I always do. No one is reaching over my head.
Hello I just got a new quantum edge 6 chair and when the tech brought it over he did some programming with laptop but wouldn't turn it up very much and I been trying to find the program so maybe I can download and do my own tuning I did that to my folding eagle hd chair which made it so much better but do u have any idea where I can get it ? Thanks and love the channel
unfortunately, the newer quantum chairs running QL-3 electronics are super locked down, and there isn't an easy way to get any settings changed without a programmer - they are typically only available thru the dealer/DME. quantum seems to keep everything out of the hands of users :^/ there are no workarounds that im aware of right now...
id talk to your dealer and explain the reasons you NEED things adjusted.. getting across busy streets quickly, not getting stuck on carpet when trying to make the chair turn, etc.. its a bit of a social engineering game sometimes :^)
On that same line, wanting to raise my blounders ground clearance by at least an inch. So wanted taller tires. But not wider, it barely fits in places as is. As Well as trying to figure out how to increase the casters as well. Be it larger casters or somehow moving the axle. Any ideas on which tires/rims I can use? They are the stock white foam filled in it xurrently.
most of the bounders have 2 available bolt patterns on the drive hubs (larger and smaller spacing) - sometime soon im gonna be looking for new wheels for my chair - something like a kids ATV, or maybe small moped wheels - with different, larger wheels there's a lot more tire options available - unfortunately dont have any specifics at the moment though..
I have a invacare pronto m41 or m51 my question is can I put tires with tubes on them and what kinda batteries can I run in the chair. Someone changed the batteries to a lawnmower batteries it works great but I want to go long distance with it. Any help be deeply appreciated
there's not a lot of space in there.. they typically use the U1 size batteries.. not sure if anything larger would fit... MAYBE some NF22's but the covers may not to back on since theyre kinda tall.. air filled/tube tires are be available.. just get the size off of the ones on there now and search around on amazon/ebay.. should be able to find a set!
Taller do equal more speed if the horse power and torque of the electric motors or engine can maintain the same rpm’s. More power is needed with talker tires. When watching top fuel dragsters race look at the slow motion videos of how the tires grow in diameter and the top end speed increases. Top Fuel engines have plenty of power to spare to make this happen. With the Bounder Chair with ST4 motors it should be able to pull or maintain the needed RPM’s to get higher speeds. Then if the controller will feed the current and voltage it should indeed go faster. This is very dependent on the motors and controllers and how much headroom they have built in. Hope this helps.
yea - the controller on this chair doesn't have a lot of headroom to supply the additional amperage needed for larger tires.. and like you said - the motors are only capable of so much :^)
Hi Dan 5:17... You know when you put really wide tires on the back of a rear-wheel-drive car they have "reverse rims" you can buy? Can you take those taller rims and mount the outside in? Or would that look too ugly/ be too wide of a tire footprint? 14:30 I'm not sure what software you need for this chair, but you may be able to adjust programming to accept larger tire size, compensate current applied, etc. You would, of course, need advanced programming access. Interesting project, Best Wishes !
i tried a few handheld programmers on it unsuccessfully a couple years ago when i got the chair.. only thing that worked was some old unknown software on the other end of an RDC connection to a computer running windows 98 LOL
assuming you use your chair every day.. plug it in EVERY night, ALL night. regardless of the lights on the charger, or display on the chair. that's the only thing to remember about wheelchair batteries... Lead acid batteries dont like sitting around partially discharged. - the lower they go, the more heat is generated when charging them. ( ex. only charging every 2-3 days) and heat = unhappy batteries! here's a random video about it..kinda... :^) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F0bw83ojvTs.html
i plug in every night.the chair i use every day only has u12350 battery's but lasted 7yrs.also plug in my qm-710 and torque out in the garage.i live in Michigan so i dont use them from dec-april.keeping them plugged in wont hurt because wheelchair chargers will not over charge .they go into trickle charge mode
Have you made a rig to lift the seat off of chairs that require seat removal to work on them? I have to find a friend who will come over and do that for me, but I would like to be independent of that.
Totally Normal, sounds like a good way. Kinda like an engine block hoist! I’ve been thinking about asking a friend to hang a block and tackle from the garage ceiling for me. The problem with that is, I’d have to keep that spot on he floor clear and my garage has too much stuff in it. I tried to figure out how to use jacks for it, but couldn’t balance it well for that. It really is true that you have to lift with the legs. I sure can’t lift squat sitting down. Course, I’m a lot weaker now, but still.
I just bought a set of 320 watt 3800 rpm motors off of a Tuff Care 1710 9 pin. I am working on making a remote control riding mower with these. I have bought golf cart wheels and tires that I am going to put on for the drive wheels. Is there a way to change the gears in the gearbox to make it faster? By Chance, do you have a way to tell me the ball park speed I can expect from this set-up?
a lot of the power chair motors are based on industrial drives.. ya should be able to find a different gearbox to attach to the motors - not sure on how/where to source those though.
@@TotallyNormal- you mentioned high speed motors. Can you point me in the direction of those just in case what I have doesnt work out. By the way, thanks for your vlog. I need all the help I can get learning about these types of motors.
most chairs with "high speed motors" are in the 7 to 10 mph range.. there's a LOT of different types... just gotta play around with your ebay search terms.. isnt really specific ones i can point ya to...
I think it was called a storm 90000 back in the early 90's was a dull sling seat folding power chair ,matter of fact on useless wheelchair crap I have the invacare diagnostic modem for those chairs in the closet ,it's a whole 1200 baud dial up ,when there was a problem with my wife's chair I would plug it in attach to phone and after 16 hour phone call to Elyria invacare would call and say something profound like left motor family! , if you Goode the voltage you get more speed but lose range and there is that nasty side effect of gooseing it to much and frying the motors .they did away sling seat because it causes people to deform and to many people got injured when there folding chair folded with them in it ( I wonder why they didn't get a federal consent decree back then )
Hey buddy long time since I begged for your help here we go my tire and motor keep going out on my brand new jazzy evo on right side is that normal? I run alot my chair is like 2 months old and it's already done it twice ... do you have a lawyer I can I borrow I flipped over in my wheelchair went was transported to hospital THE EMT SAID THEY COULDN'T TAKE MY CHAIR WITH ME AND LEFT IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD
I just found your you tube🤔 I changed out my tires on my Promobil F3 to the 8.5 tire (GREAT) I have been collecting parts to build a 4 wheel drive I have the motors and all controls but kind of stuck on the design, I was told that each tire had to be free floating or it wouldn’t work. Do you have any ideas that might help me to move forward. I live in Longview
@@TotallyNormal- sorry guess I didn’t make clear what I am trying. I am making the main frame out of 1x3 square tubing and only using 2 drive motors, and then using chain and sprockets to drive the front. I was told by a wheelchair technician that it would not work because all 4 wheels had to have there own separate suspension. Thank you Jim
well 3 outta 4 wheels on the ground sounds fine to me! especially if they're all locked together with the same drive motors... i see no reason ya "NEED" independent suspension :^)
That's criminal! Like putting a 400 Chevy with a blower into a to go, casters don't touch ,oh gee let's build them up with rubber cement .or maybe put some handtruck tires on as casters
