Did a film shoot with an Arri Alexa Mini last weekend, no problem I thought as I own the right time code cable for that (two even, both for my Ultrasync ONE and for my Tentacle Sync originals).
But uh oh, on the day I found out that was not to be the case, as they were not mounting the Arri Alexa Mini directly to the Panavision crane but first on to a Movi gimbal. Which was barely supporting the weight of the camera because of the heavy ARRI Master Anamorphics on the front of it, meant there was no space at all at the back for timecode! (why on earth does Arri put the TC input at such a bad position right at the back??)
Thus I needed a TC cable with a 5 pin LEMO right angle connection to make this work, just to give me that extra inch of room! Which the camera department couldn't spare me.
Thus I ended up borrowing not just the cable, but an Ambient NanoLockit as well from Ande Schurr because the cable wouldn't be compatible with either my Ultrasync ONE or Tentacle Sync so had to borrow his Ambient Nanolockit as well with the cable. But on the upside, it means I got to make this quick comparison video showing the three of them side by side!
