We start the build of our 2015 Ford Transit production van. We're prepping the floors and future seat and shelving attachment points. The van is built to allow everything to be completely removed, or moved around. 1 seat or 3, flat floor or shelves, totally flexible.
First we make mounting brackets for airline l-track, and then cut and stain custom plywood flooring. We also insulate the van, and add a seat swivel.
The future seating bolts to the l-track, and the l-track is bolted through the floor to custom brackets. Safety first!
The van was delivered as a cargo van. Just the driver/passenger seat. We needed to be able to seat anywhere between 2-5(or more) people as needed. The addition of l-track, and future factory Transit seats allows us to customize for the specific shoot.
The van is a 2015 Ford Transit. High Roof. Long. 3.5l Ecoboost. 2 turbos. Send it.

Thanks for the walk through on the rails. Good info. Although you may want to look more into thermal dynamics and the pros/cons of your layering of air pockets. Having air pockets "can" encourage moisture buildup and thus condensation in places you don't want there to be.

Hey guys. Nice craftsmanship. One question though. How did you attach seat to the track. I’m working on similar project and looking for ways to mount the transit van double seat. Thanx. Would appreciate some pics

Used the factory rails. They have holes in them. Just bolted those guys right to the L-Track using 3/8 l-track lugs.

I like your use of the L Tracks. Did you use OEM ford bench seat for your back seats that hook into your L track? Would you be able to send over a photo of your back seat mounted to the floor? Looking at doing something similar for a back seat/ bed conversion
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 7 лет назад
ReCompose Media yea. They are factory transit seats from someone else's wagon. They almost perfectly fit the l-track. We just cut them down and used the factory square washers. Then topped those with a regular washer. You just have to get the l-track spacing perfect.

Gotcha. Good to know. Thinking about building a rock and roll bed style bench seat that would attach to the L track.

@@BangersMatt would something like that work with Sprinter seats?

@@thestandardbarber1708 Sure. If you have a bit of fab ability, any seat would work!

My favorite part was that nut-sert (sp?) demo off-camera.

Rad! What did you guys use for the walls? I’ve noticed it has a nice subtle texture/design to it and I’m trying to track down what it is. Thanks for making all of these! 🙏

Factory “protection” walls. Basically Coroplast.

Hey guys nice job so far. Im a gaffer and have been working out of a sprinter van since 06. Biggest mistake I see people make is too many shelves. I used to have a rack on one side but now its all carts. You really have to weld up your own carts. Noone makes carts with the intent of cramming as much stuff in as we do. Make sure your footprints are unified up and down. No handles sticking out etc. I carry a full 3 ton grip package with 20x frames plus 4k hmi down to 200 jokers, skypanels, L7, litemats, and full tungsten 4x 2k,1k,650,300,150. The 12k hmi and 5ks can go in when needed. Yes it all fits. What you want to avoid is having to cross load from shelves onto carts when your unloading. Big waste of time. On the weekends i would dump it all and put 6 dirtbikes in and related tools and gear. I didn't bother insulating, however, as I'm in Hawaii. No need for gloves either. Will look for your other videos.

Hi J, very intrigued with your set up? Any chance you have any pictures you’d be willing to send me? Info@visualstarmedia.com or 201.388.1910 I’m currently planning to build my production van and would love to see what worked for you through out all those years

How did those nutserts hold up? I put a bunch of stainless plus nuts in my van and they were useless. Spun out. I completely gave up on them. What were the ones the previous owners of your van used?
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 3 года назад
The PO ones were trashed and cut out. We used the sealed bottom or stainless on a lot of them. Also covered them with RP342 later on. Had to remove some a while ago to move the fridge. 3 worked fine. One spun. Nutserts sure are a lottery... but so easy.

Awesome build. How is the wood floor held down to the van? Just by the recessed L track? I'm doing a similar floor, and i cant wrap my head around what to do first. Set the L track, or cut the plywood floor. Thanks.
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 6 лет назад
Yes. Most of the floor is held down with the L-track. We're using flush track, and it has a 1/4 lip on all sides. In a couple spots there's some 1/4-20 into the floor. Where we've placed some floating nutserts. But mostly, it's just the track.

My wife absolutely loves your floor color, and wants the same in our van, what where the stain details? Thanks in advance!
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 7 лет назад
Michael Oliver It's Minwax water base. River Rock Blue as a base and then gently rubbed Onyx on top.

I love your floor, and would like to do the same for my van. Can you share some details (like the steps and products) on the staining and finishing processes? Thanks a lot!
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 4 года назад
Sure. It's pretty simple. We used 2 stains. One was Minwax Riverstone, and once that was semi dry, we wiped it with Minway Onyx. The floors are coated with Bona water based floor coating (4-5 coats) and sanded in between. The logo was inlayed using a vinyl stencil and staining over it.
@maudk4765
@maudk4765 4 года назад
@@BangersMatt Thank you! So, that's two different stainings and then a PU coating. I can't find the Minwax riverstone, but I'm not sure whether I can get Minwax at all here in EU, so I'll just look for a similar product. I really love the color, let's see if I can find a way to mimic it.

Amazing build guys, curious to know what length of van it is? A 250 or 350?
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 5 лет назад
It's a 250. Long wheelbase. NOT extended.

Great build guys! What foam material did you use for the insulation layers?
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 7 лет назад
Against the walls is NOICO sticky sound deadening from Amazon. Then just simple rigid foam insulation from Home Depot. Then a gap for air, and reflectix style aluminum bubble wrap taped taught in all voids. We didn't go nutso on insulation - nobody is living in the van, but wanted to take the edge of hot days and big rattles.
@BraamCompton
@BraamCompton 7 лет назад
Awesome! I'm transforming my Ford Transit 350 at the moment also for video production on the road, but I will be living in it. I found great foam insulators like closed cell foam pads and aerogel that will work for the canadian winter but the insulation will cost more than the van!! Rigid foam board seems like the best way to go!
@BangersMatt
@BangersMatt 7 лет назад
Yea. Aerogel is rad. Lots of people use Thinsulate sheets/batting as well, which is super effective but harder to come by and a bit more $$.
