I have just been entered into a govt sponsored training course for C+E and your videos are a godsend Hayley. On top of my practical driving lessons, I spent countless hours watching videos from some driving instructors that uploaded their lessons. I can already tell that I'll be enjoying your content for that same reason.
Your videos are great. I am doing my C+E at the moment and I'm doing it only because I want a C+E. Ultimately, I'd like to teach other drivers. This has been a nice inspiration.
Hayley. A huge thank you for the time and dedication that you have put back into the profession. Mid November, I decided to come out of retirement and retrain as a LGV driver. I didn't have a clue where to start or what to do. I've watched many YT clips, but have found yours to be excellent. They are both informative and reassuring. Last Fri I passed my 3a and this morning my C+E practical test. Thank you for making a difference ❤️
Just found your channel this week and I just have to say fair play to you Hayley. You have such a level head and a great attitude, which from what I can see is what's needed for truck driving. To change from teaching to truck driving must have been some difference. I myself am looking to change careers, so you have given me hope that I might just make it in truck driving :) Thank you !
Hope you have now taken the plunge....it's never too late to start. Took my Cat C at 51yrs old and never looked back after 5months I'm now looking at following TDH into Class1... go for it that's my advice 👍
I've subscribed and enjoyed your videos. I passed my class one in 1986 and my HGV experience is patchy at best. I joined the railway in 2000 and kept my vocational driving licence by working casual for a local bus company. I then had an illness in my right eye which caused myself to lose the sight of it. My left eye remains excellent at 6/6 or greater and this is the point of my post. I declared my monocular vision to DVLA who sent me for eyesight evaluation which they paid for and was allowed to keep my vocational licence due to 'grandfather rights'. I'm nearing retirement and would like to keep busy and have considered going back to driving. My problem would be if I'd pass the company medical even if DVLA says I'm fit to drive.
In the Traffic office of some companies there are more than a few that do not have an LGV. I've even worked for one company whom did not have a car license! You will be brilliant as an instructor (told you before). I'm sure others viewing will agree.
I have nothing but a huge respect for you doing that job Haley it's actually quite stressful when you learn to drive them from watching yours and other peoples vids. Good on you I am now a subscriber
HAHAH - ya daft od, the doors! Oh mate, I am only 4 months Into the job too - I have good days, I have bad days. One thing we have in common is the - - - Hmm, set it up wrong, set it up again. Proud of you, Bab x
I'm doing my class 2. Just for fun because I'm way too old for the market. My instructor is a guy who used to drive Class1 and so on. International, away from home for weeks. He's 43 now and after years of teaching he still wants to go back to lorry driving! It always itches. His brains tell him not to do it, but his heart?? Thanks for the video!
Perseverance won over Phaffing and Palaver. 😆. Great approach to your reversing in Coventry, I worked in Tile Hill in the late 1980s, I enjoy the views from the cab, of places I've been to or never been, obviously motorways are much the same. Really great vlog, you were the most confident I've ever seen you, excellent outlook, transport will always be needed, not sure if Amazon will have Drones with 25 Tonne carrying capacity. All the best to you and your fellow trucking boyfriend, and to K Transport. Stay safe all.
Passed my class 2 in august booked my class 1 for December through a company willing to give me a job whilst qualified. Bit nervous about going from car driving to class 1 driving without class 2 experience but having passed class 2 I can’t wait to get going. It was watching yours and other vlogs that gave me the push to book it. Keep up the great vids 👍🏼
Good luck with it. It's a learning curve for everybody so don't worry about the lack of experience. I don't think anything could've prepared me for artics, haha 😊
Confessions of a truck driver !!! You were pretty adamant that you were sticking with Class 2 lol - I did think Class 1 had the better cabs and you can see more scenery as you drive along !!
You normally have to pay Graham a sweetie to tip you lol ....and the mint's are the usual bribe to take the pallets back !!!!. Glad you're enjoying the class one work now and a decent truck aswell .I'd get David Preston to look at your new lorry , ive only driven class one a handful of times but Andy hepworth's was a flying machine compared to the others I took out ,mind you they were all ready for disposal by the time I got them xx.
Enjoy your vids Hayley, I was thinking about going for my Class 2 then possibly Class 1 in time but you've put me off regards 12/15 hr days! currently do 7 hr days for a well known postal service!
I believe that well known postal service pays £17.50 an hour for class 1 drivers on a 36 hour a week contract. That’s over Bristol way but possibly more in London and surrounding areas.
And not all hgv jobs are 12-15 quite a lot max out at 8-10 hours it all depends on the type of work and the contracts. So many jobs available due to the driver shortage so you could be picky if you wanted to do it!
There's different jobs out there but just be prepared! I loved my class 2 job, it was set hours 6:00-16:00. Now class 1 is finishing when I've done the deliveries, including any delays :/
That looked a bugger of a spot to get into…I think I’d have moved the trailer you were taking well out of the way to start with…yes it might have been more hassle but it could’ve given a better set up for the one being dropped off 🤷🏻♂️. I’m a new pass too…and I’ve got a strange way of looking at problems and solving them 😂
Hayley I passed you last week on A34 between Perry Barr and M6 trying to miss the traffic on the M6 en route to Telford then on to Manchester.. Gave you a flash and a wave , i was in a white/blue DAF 18 ton .. Some other good news I PASSED my cat C + E yesterday 👍👍 See you about 👀
Hi Hayley. Your such a lovely person you’ve done really well so far on your journey from being a teacher to a HGV driver. I really think you’ll make a fantastic HGV instructor as you personally is top class 👍🏻 cheers Stevie 😍 x
Another Brilliant video and plenty of Hayley smiles x x Good to see you more confident to xx Interesting listening to your thoughts for the future a case of watch this space xx Just a small point you are selling yourself to cheap just one mint xx Stay safe and healthy xx
Well done on the Class 1 route,And I think you are a born teacher giving knowledge of your experiences..I still want to accomplish my Class 2 but again I have kids and don't want to sleep out
Your second drop in Telford we go there regularly and I went there today ann asked me to take some pallets back and also pulled out a pack of mints 🤣🤣🤣
I hayley brilliant video.philip just been thinking why don't you go for your forklift truck licence then you can do all the lot.plus you could work Saturday and Sunday. Load your own and away you go phil.
"School girl error" dropping a trailer before checking it was in the right place.🤦♀️😉 Never let it be said that Hayley doesn't know what day it...oh well! Before you .mentioned you were in a different wagon I was thinking it looked quite smart down the side I see it is a 460 so it might struggle a bit at 44 tonne but it probably just needs more input with that auto box. Remember when that guy blew his horn at you when he thought you had not seen a crane? Same thing happened to me today only with a police woman honking because she said I was about to rip a wing mirror off a car. I got out and says to her that it's OK I'm nowhere near it, you can have a look if you want, she didn't want to, but I don't think it was because she believed me. All the best Hayley.
I am really enjoying your videos, everyone is different and was hoping to one day do my HGV but alas age is against me and I know most companies would much sooner go for a younger person. Meanwhile i will continue to enjoy this brilliant insight of your vocation. So thanks Hayley.
You'd be surprised. The company insurance policies charge higher premiums for drivers under age 25 so you never know. If it's something you want to do then you should go for it 😊
51yr old female just started cat C March 2022 and no problem getting work and job offers... basically if you love driving and have a positive work ethic they'll be hanging on your door... go for it.
@@TruckDriverHayley Passing your class one test, you are far from a dummy, experience comes with practice, you will get there don't do yourself down,. xx
I noticed on your first trailor swap you were having problem getting the king pin locking on the fith wheel, I found if you reverse under the trailer then lift the trailer up so its off the landing legs then reverse slowly it should lock in every time. Hope thats helpful and Im not butting in and telling you your job. Have a feeling you would make a great transport manager Haley.
Hayleigh, you are explaining why hgv driving is not attractive to most women unless you are happy to be without a family life, having said that, I was only going to do bus driving for a couple of years, that was 1988..... x
I got to say I can't fault your reverse at all Hayley, the only thing is learning to tell if a gap is too awkward at the start, like after you pointed out the trailer you were picking up when you were passing the blue truck for the first time, I could see that you were going to struggle either with a blind side reverse, or the gap opposite the trailer not allowing any real kind of angle to get the trailer in to the first gap, and the only way you were going to do it was getting really close to the trailer you were picking up. you got all the positioning right, but not enough room to turn the truck 45 degrees to the trailer because of the 2nd building, the only other thing you could try to do, but totally say avoid at all cost! is about 18 shunts back and forward to turn the truck on a dime, but with the truck being an automatic with brake assist, then makes it nearly impossible and chance of damage to the surrounding property and the truck so high that I wouldn't reccomend trying it. as it is a lot of 1 foot movements while turning the truck on a virtual spot, easier to do with a manual truck as you got more control when the clutch is engaged, and disengaged, and not stupid brake assist to hold the truck which then allows for such tight turning circle.
The sat navigation u use is it set up to avoid loe bridges ect?..I found myself giving you a round of applause , reversing them beasts looks tough going..big respect 🙌 👏 🙏 💯
Hi Hayley just clocked you vlogs today as I wanting to be a lorry driver and came across your vids and on vlog #13 really could to watch was wanting to know how long did you revise the theory for till you was confident you new most of the answers correctly and I have just booked my medical and it's for 11 September and all I got to do now is study my theory thanks and great vlog 👍
Probably around three or four weeks. I was studying from the DVSA book when I could but I felt there was such a lot to take in. Good luck for everything 😊
I'm not an HGV driver but wanted to comment on the Coventry parking problem! Wouldn't it have been easier to pull over to the right before you turned in the yard and reverse into the gap from that side? I'm going to watch more of your videos before I decide whether to think about taking HGV training; thanks for sharing! 😊
@@stepheneyles2198 it does tend to depend on how busy the road is for traffic as to whether its practical to reverse in off the road or drive in then manoeuvre into place, sadly some drivers are so impatient that they try and drive around the reversing vehicle, putting themselves in danger or just causing a bigger problem than necessary by getting in the way of the vehicle manouvering and blocking access
It was Coventry. That would've been a "blindside reverse" which is very difficult for beginners (as I was then). I also don't think there was enough space on the right where you said to get the trailer straight enough before reversing. I was pretty hopeless at reversing back then anyway, haha
@@TruckDriverHayley blindsides are a pain with plenty of room aren't they? I'm still class 2 so technically I'm just reversing a huge car compared to an artic but I want to do my class 1 in the future so any tips will be great 👍
Hi Hayley thanks for posting your videos Ive decided im going to give HGV driving a go so im going to do the HGV 2 licence first. I have a question though sorry if it sounds daft but I am new to it all, can I put myself through the training independently or do I have to do the whole training with a HGV driver training company, I rang a national HGV driver training company last week and they have quoted me £2,558 from start to end. I watched your early video of you going through HGV 2 training and your end cost was roughly £1500 a much better option for me at the minute as im currently unemployed.
You can do it independently that way it is cheaper if you go to a Brooker they will charge you 2500 then they will send you to a school they find all of which you can do your sell m class 2 and class 1 cost me 2400 approx , defo ring the schools direct Wallace is good and so is elite truck training
@@PaulMichaelR I only know that if your in receipt of UC its an option because a friends son took advantage of it. You should contact your local jobcentre and enquire as to whether ESA entitles you to funding as well. If for some reason it doesn't, be aware that due to the desperate need for drivers. There are a number of company's that are willing to fund your licence, if you agree to a fixed term of employment upon passing your test. This is usually a period of two years in order to make their investment worthwhile. After that you are free to work anywhere.
Do it independently, there's too many scams out there. I wasn't aware of the government funding mentioned in the other comment, you'd have to find out about that. I did my medical and theory off my own back. You'll find places are putting up their prices now it's all over the TV/news about driver shortages 😕
Hi Hayley, good to see you decided to stick with Class 1. I don't know if you get time to watch other truck videos, here are a couple links, both feature Amercan trucks with 53' trailers, first is instructor demonstrating reversing tips ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y1J0FH4CeaY.html Second is a real- life nightmare reversing situation that any one who has done Class 1 can relate to, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y1J0FH4CeaY.html
Hopefully if I get kidney transplant I will go for my class 1 just hope they change the law on having 2 pass class 2 first as I have a full psv that I have had for over 25 years
Why does no one change gear in these types of videos? last time.i drove a truck it had 4 low range 4 high range and a gear splitter !! 16 gears on total
Hi Hayley, I like watching ur videos . Am I bus driver at the moment. Am thinking to do my class 2 then class 1. Do you recommend the job? Before I spend money. I love driving. Many thanks.
Sorry I'm late replying. Yes, I would recommend it but just remember the hours aren't in shift patterns like buses. You are never sure of your finish times
Im Doing my class 1 license in Germany atm and I probably won’t be done until mid 2022, do you think the current high wages are here to stay? I’ve litterally been having nightmares about flying home only to find out I’ll be getting paid £10 an hour
Love the vidoes! I’m just hoping for abit of advice i’m wanting to get my hgv licence and am really unsure of whether to go for class 2 or straight for class 1, any advice would be appreciated 😁
Hi Beth, thanks. You have to have your class 2 (C) licence before you can take your class 1(C+E) licence. Your category C gives you your provisional C+E entitlement. I think that the experience I had on the class 2 was very valuable. I also enjoyed it, but everyone is different. Do what you think you'd enjoy and good luck with it all 😊
Haley, I really suggest that your next career move should be to join the railway and explore the possiblilties of becoming a train driver. You would enjoy the challanges of driving a train, possibly at 125mph if you got in with an inter city company. Living in the Birmingham area, you would have the choice of a few passenger or freight companies to apply for. Every man and his dog wants to be a train driver so you would be up against hundreds of applicants, but they are actively trying to attract women into the train driving role so you might have a better chance. You should research the role and the psychometric tests that you need to pass, but I think you would enjoy it. Plus you could still do class 1 driving on days off if you wished. I myself come from the railway. Watch this video. If you get bored after 10 minutes, then train driving isn’t for you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HWm5huUMxuQ.html
Fun fact: You know that teachers in elementary education (even English language) in Switzerland earn more than half as much as a truck driver? about £ 6000 per month (converted into francs) ;)
You're probably reading about DRIVING time rather than WORKING time. You can WORK 50 hours every week, but can't DRIVE that many. I hope that make sense 👍🏻
