I love what you said Mama Muhau lifestyle changes are it, the medical community will tell you diabetes and hypertension are progressive disease and you need to take meds to control them. I dont know about diabetes but my Dr took me off hypertension meds after lifestyle changes, jogging, lifting weights and lost weight.
