VLOG - Aquascape Gallery Update (and Aquascaper 1200 Deep Dive) 

Been watching your channel from the US for nearly a year. You inspired me to get involved in the hobby and start a channel of my own and it’s only added value to my life. Thank you for what you do! Gorgeous flat btw.

This 1200 tank was the biggest inspiration for me when I set up my tank last autumn. Also got me back into the hobby after 10 years, but I'm still looking forward for your update 🙂

Hi George, another great update. Decorating is coming on nicely. If you go with a rescape on the 1200 , which i think is a certainty now, then an island set up in the centre of the wall would be the best visual way to go. I would put a 600 on either side to balance it up ,providing there is room of course. I like things to look balanced. Will be great to have new vlogs on the rescape and the set up of the kessils ,also looking forward to the DOOA vlog and seeing that take its position in the studio. All the best again mate,Martin

That shelving unit would make a cool room divide.

The Flex's flow may be too strong for Nimrod. It's not adjustable so you would need to slow it with hardscape or a sponge filter, which you may not find too appealing. I think he would look stunning in the dooa.

Using an Oase on my new tank following George's earlier review - really excellent piece of kit, tidy and easy to work on, I have found a monthly prefilter rinse is adequate - but I have low stocking levels and don't dose macro plant nutrients. I too have had some green filamentous algae over the last week or so - also, as with George, I think sunlight striking the tank in the morning and evening is to blame, bright sun as it rises and sets in the sky angles in and bounces strong beams around the room. However, filamentous algae is not a sign of serious biological imbalance - my water quality is excellent. Unlike blue-green, black or brown algae it is basically a sign of an essentially healthy tank. Crush and smell it, it smells like green plant material with an earthy element to the smell. Other algae types have a decidedly less pleasant smell. I have temporarily reduced my photo-period to six hours and lowered the temperature to 23.5 centigrade and increased slightly my CO2 dosing. Will wait and see. By September in these latitudes I expect to be back to a normal 8-10 hour photo-period. Good luck with new scape - but in some respects I think the mark of really good set-up is: does it stand the test of time, what does it look like after 4 or 5 years? Have the plants and fish lived long and well? Keep up the good work George, and we all look forward to your book.

George, you need to link up with Greg whitstock from aquascape in the USA. Experiment with an eco system pond!!!? I’ll even help build it!!! I’ve used your advice and his eco system pond principles for over a year now and have had amazing results in tanks and ponds.

All sounds great to me, perhaps you could set up a tank that you throw in plants that you haven't ever used before and see how it goes.

If you do rescape the 1200 it would be great to see what you can do with exactly the same hardscape rearranged.

Fluval's distribution network is limited, the range is not generally available in the Middle or Far East. Great channel George, you're an inspiration to many!

🌺Thank you for sharing the video. Well, I feel the more swimming room for Nimrod the better. Yikes, you're taking chances everyday of a major leak with that tank, it's got too many bubbles in the silicone. The silicone is weak, It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of WHEN it's going to leak. You've been really lucky so far. It's a Beautiful tank, but pretty please, to be on the safe side, I hope you'll get a new tank just like it or redo the silicone.⏳

Glad you’re making a book. What’s it going to be like? Will it be more heavily dominated by practicalities and science, or the artistic techniques behind Aquascaping.

I really appreciate your honestly, fairly approach in your own private tanks, regarding algae issue ;) Second, no offens, but I personaly think all 4 tanks need new layouts...which gives you wonderful chance to make 4 new videos, so we can smashed like button...haha...and maybe one tank can be with classic layout, iwagumi style, or dutch style, but I think you are more for super modern designs...thank you for your advice and for keeping us informed. A new setup is always exciting. I feel you when you say that it's a bit sad, but regarding the quality of this channel and the look of your Gallery, it's a wonderful opportunity to inspire us with a new creation. My 2 cents? Why not going for a diorama or a landscape similar to the brazilian style, or even a rocky mountain? A scree zone or something like that. Here in Spain I see a lot of aquascapes like that (mine for this year too!), and keeping in consideration how many NA you actually have (unless you changed a lot the compositions of your Fluval and the 300) it would be a great addition. In any case, keep on scaping!

I'm not a big fan of the flex, so if the other tank you are thinking of putting him in is bigger - maybe consider moving him to the larger tank. He will love you even more for it.

Centrality is a word!

Island is beautiful but the height of 45 cm is a bit difficult with stem plants, in my opinion you need more height for that. I would say spiderwood with a 1/3 ratio.

I’ve just Scaped my flex and can’t decided if I should just put a betta in it?? Anyway, they are easy plants and looking good after 2 weeks of running! Great video yet again mate. Quick question, following on from what you said in your last video about the Aquascaper 300 and it being discontinued, how come it's being stopped? With regards to this current video, agree with you with regards to the island scape in the 1200, that will work in the sense of it's central position. Just wanted to say that your gallery has inspired me to plan an area in my living room that is purely dedicated to the hobby (although no where near the size of yours!) currently closing down my 4 foot aquarium before redecorating and then I can customize the area with aquariums in mind. Thanks for your continued inspiration to myself and everyone else in the hobby worldwide.

Really looking forward to the changes. I do have a question about pro aquascapers. One of my favorite plants is the amazon sword. I don't think I've ever seen one (or more) used in a scape of all the scapers I watch on youtube. Is there a reason for this or just preference?

How do you avoid the fish from jumping out of the aquarium without a cover?

I heard that planted aquariums doesn't need heating inside. How does all the fish tolerates the 21-22°C water? Like the rasboras for example.

High quality video as always George ,i was against the redo of the 1200 cause its my fav aqauscape in general but also im excited to see what you will come up to replace it im sure ill love it too :D Love the fact that you share the changes and how embaressed you are when something is not ideal in the tank but some algae are natural no worries i personaly like it; the african ciclid tank is becoming my second favorite scape you own love the fish and the rocks are so natural keep up the awesome work and cheers for the book ill definetly get it if its gona be published in Europe too :D

I don't believe sun light is the main factor that causes algae problems, because this is the standard light for all waterplants on this planet ;) I believe this is a prejudices from the times when people started to have aquariums and didn't know that the water conditions and fertilzation have a big influence not only the light. I'm watching your and other peoples aquascaping videos for a long time and it seams that most aquascapers believe "a lot helps a lot". I bet if you reduce the fertilization by 50% most algae will be gone in two weeks. I have two tanks a 720l planted Discus tank and a 5 week old 500l Aquascape. Both have direct sunlight for a few hours per day. The fish love the light and even on the new tank I don't have algae on the stones or wood, just on the glass which I clean only once a week.

Don't keep moving Nimrod. I am on the process of setting up a 300 tank for a Betta so I am interested in how you have scaped it.

Someone help!! I have an ADA 60p aquarium and I am looking to buy a Twinstar algae inhibitor!! The aquarium is 17 gallons, which means the M5 should work, but also the Nano Plus would work on the first setting. I feel like the Nano Plus is better, and I know George has used it on a tank of similar size.. But I am wondering why he used the more expensive Nano Plus when he could of got the M5 for the tank size. Is the Nano Plus better in any other way? It will always be used on my ADA 60p. Thanks!!!
