What's applied maths all about, I'd like to change to it next year instead of pure maths with computer science.

@@Angnul in simple terms I can say it's using pure maths to solve real world problems. It leans mostly towards mathematical modelling, like maybe writing an equation to understand the flow of current on an electric circuit over time, approximating how old maybe a fossil is, monitoring mathematically the mixtures of some elements like water salt etc. There's a lot of its applications, my 1st yr of doing it it was like I was doing physics coz it's basically mechanics when u start off, u work with statics and dynamics with your Newton's laws, mostly the tool u use is calculus. One interesting module I did on it was numerical analysis and basically it focused a lot on decimal numbers, how computers should store numbers and handle the errors and all the algorithms associated with that. One big part of it that I really liked was the ability to approximate solutions since not everything in life has an explicit answer, some we tend to make as accurate solutions as we can. So pure maths tends to drill u a lot with proofs whereas applied maths tends to focus on algorithms. It's not that maths is not useful it's just that it's not always black and white as to where you'd apply it's knowledge but with ap maths it exposes u to problems in physics, engineering, quantum physics (mostly in postgrad), electronics, chemistry, systems, biology etc. It depends on what u prefer, some people really like those rigorous proofs and thinking whilst some of us prefer applications, hence I went for AP maths n CS rather than pure maths. Do what really interests u the most coz there u stand a better chance to thrive. Hope this helps, even though I couldn't mention everything
