I have had lazy eye my whole life, it sucked getting my pictures done in elementary school and being made fun of. Now that I'm older it has got a little better but never goes away and you still notice it in pictures. This video is such an inspiration! Thank you for being so transparent and honest. Love you!♥️
My 8 year old son loved watching this video, he's had this surgery twice so far & he thought it was so neat that he could relate to everything you were describing! He calls you his "twin" 😘 So glad your recovery is going well 💜
That is so cute and sweet. I couldn't imagine going through what he's been through, or what you've been through as a mama stressed out by your sons surgery.
fellow lazy eyed sister here 🙋🏼♀️ had the same surgery when i was 3. followed by getting drops in my eye everyday, having to wear a patch on it all day for a year or so, and also eye exercises on the computer. i feel your pain girl.
Thank you so much for this video, I’m actually crying as I type this. I have suffered with my lazy eye for 29 years, the bullying, the jokes really hurts but I’m so glad I have come across someone like you who has the same imperfection as me and isn’t scared to show her face. When celebrities abs people do the cross eye pictures abs think it’s funny it’s not.. as there are people who are made that way abs can’t change it so easy. I pray I have the courage abs strength to be as confident as you. Thank you so much xx
I totally agree. I don’t find those jokes funny because it’s very hurtful towards me but they don’t understand. And I hate when I’m looking at a certain person and they look back or to the side and that’s when I get very uncomfortable and I know they noticed my eyes aren’t looking where they should. I hate my life! I’m thankful I have a little family but even then I’m very insecure 😕
I had both eyes done 3 days ago. Perfect result! No double vision at all! I am not having actual pain but very uncomfortable with that gritty feeling in my eyes and light sensitivity. It does hurt a little bit to look to each side so I am avoiding that. I don’t feel like driving. I am 76 years old and I have had strabismus all my life but it was corrected enough with prisms until recently when the prism strength needed was too great so I decided to have the surgery. It was done conventionally, not with adjustable sutures, and to my absolute amazement I did not see double immediately after waking up from anesthesia. It’s very hard for me to adjust to not reaching for glasses immediately and waking up in the morning because if I didn’t have my glasses on before I couldn’t negotiate walking to the bathroom Without bumping into the doorway or just walking with my eyes closed which I could do easily. I’m sure those of you who are reading those who have strabismus understand. Good luck to everyone reading this who is about to have the surgery. Don’t be scared. It was not the terrible experience I thought it might be.
I just had mine today! I was nervous the surgery would make my alignment worst. And I too had the conventional way. I am pretty happy with my results so far. Thanks for sharing your story Suz and Stephanie! 🙂
I'm having mine done tomorrow. 53yo and have an enormous amount of prism in my glasses. I cannot convey how self-conscious I am of my lazy, mis-aligned eyes. I see pics of me and I want to run and I have a hard time looking at people in their eyes when I talk to them. Glad it was successful for you!
you should go for it ! I had this surgery last year (July 22 2019) so it’s almost been a year and sometimes i completely forget that i ever had a lazy eye ! the surgery was extremely successful. I was 15 when i had it done and although i was a little bit scared but it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be. It will be quite painful for maybe a week or two and you’ll have lots of eye exercises to do and eye drops to take but the results are so worth it. My confidence has skyrocketed!!
But also embrace your lazy eye !! I mainly got the surgery because the lazy eye was effecting my headaches and eye sight. If you want the surgery then i would strongly recommend but if you can’t get it then don’t worry !! Lazy eyes arent something to be ashamed of 🥰
I don't know if you will see this but thank you! I had it all my life as well and it was a struggle. These past few years it has effected me more because it started showing more and even while working, I know that some customers noticed it and some have made comments and it hurts. I really hope I can that surgery to not only make me more confident but better my life.Thank you for talking about it in your video about this and thank you for sharing this journey with us!
Thank you girl 💕 I’ve really learned that at the end of the day, what others say or comment it won’t matter if you’re confident in who you are. Hope this helps!
I just had this surgery last week. It’s unbelievable how much it changes your life. I’ve suffered from Strabismus for the last 4-5 years and it’s been awful. So great to be able to see straight again!
I just had the surgery today , I never struggled with strabismus until I had a head injury in 2012, it has got worse over the last 5 years . Your comment gives me hope. I can’t wait to see again and have my confidence return .
I'm so proud and happy for you! My right eye is also lazy, it's not really noticeable unless I'm really tired, but it does bother at me times. I love how open you've been about it. You were beautiful before and your beautiful now! I hope you heal quick 😊
I have both eyes it's unnoticeable if I'm tired but it is unconsciously moving like it has their own mind, everyone around me talking behind my back telling my eyes are misaligned and I'm so depressed hearing everyone bullying me due to my eye.
I just got eye muscle surgery because I had strabismus and I’m here recovering and watching 💓 I’m so happy I got it done my nurses and staff were awesome I was nervous but they made me feel cared for. They put me to sleep and it went by fast!
Official Eve I would put a cold compress on my eye and that would help a lot. Also some Tylenol or ibuprofen for pain and I would just rest my eye. I didn’t spend my time watching tv because that would give me headaches. I had double vision for a while but it goes away after a week or two. I’m so happy and healed up already!
@@AnaMartinez_26 Hi glad to hear you are doing well. May I ask did you have this as a child? Did you do EYE THERAPY first? My 8yro son was diagnosed with this as one of his eye issues. I am so afraid.
Ana Martinez how often did you put the cold compress? I actually haven’t done that but wondering if it’ll make my swelling go down faster. I’m on day 6
I’ve never had a surgery and have had lazy eye for as long as I can remember. I have perfect vision so I never understood why I needed glasses as a kid so I never bothered wearing them. I’m 26 now and I notice my eye drifting out more. I have control over it and I can always center it, but I would like that to be natural and see with both eyes. I want the surgery but I’m very scared and this feels like it helped. Thank you for posting. Your videos on this feel like a blessing 💜
Having same situation im 22 years old, my parents dont have money and time to take care of my eye. Its kinda not only insecurity that affects me but also the fact this was not treated. Just want to be normal person. Getting inspired and braved enough now when i do some research and got in to your vlog . Thanks for sharing :) from ph
I have a lazy eye in my left eye, I’ve had it for 6 years (I’m 17 now) after I fully lost the sight in my left eye in a bad riding accident. It made me lose all self confidence and have really struggled with my mental health as people have made nasty comments about it. So have been contemplating getting this surgery, this video was so helpful, thank you x :)
I'm having this surgery in less than 48 hours and your video made me feel so much better. This is also my third strabismus surgery (once as a baby, and once in 2008) but this is my first time with adjustable sutures and I was SO nervous about it until I watched your video. Thank you for being so open and willing to share your story.
@@emilyjane2904 It went really well. I bought a wedge pillow to prop me up the first few nights and I really liked that. I had Tylenol for pain relief but I found I didn't take it very much. Just listen to your body, and rest when you need to rest. Good luck!!! You'll do great!! Let me know if you have any questions!
@@courtneynielsen2683 why did you have to undergo it again..??? Is it something which keeps changing and we have to take care of it after few years... am scared... please answer
@@panipoori8961 I had my initial surgery as an infant and had no issues until I was in my early 20's. All the sudden people thought I was staring at their chest! So embarrassing. So I saw an eye doctor and they told me I needed another surgery. I had no idea I would need it more than once. So, I had my second surgery, moved across the country and lived my life. Then, less than 10 years later it started again...people were asking me what I was looking at and thought I was staring at their chest! So then I had another surgery. I'm sorry I don't really have an answer for you. If it helps at all my surgery last summer was honestly hardly painful at all. I took Tylenol when I got home from surgery, and then the next day and that was it. Never needed any prescription pain meds.
I appreciate this so much! I’ve followed you on IG for awhile and I had no idea you had this Adult Strabismus surgery. I’m expecting my surgical date for October 2024. I can’t wait, both eyes turn inward. Hoping this eliminates the strabismus and double vision. Appreciate you sharing your experience. ❤ 🙏
i’ve had amblyopia (lazy eye) since i was 1 in BOTH EYES (kind of a pain in the butt) i got a surgery done when i was 2 and it got better, but a year or two ago it got worse again.. i hate the idea of surgery on such an important part of me and i’ve always been scared.. i’m happy that you got through it ❤️ god bless you! have a great day if you’re reading this!
(Typing before I watch the full video)Thank you for two things - one for sharing cause you didn't have too. Two for being honest about getting this done for your job. Everyone gives the "I would do it even if I wasn't on here". You were straight up real. Well wishes your way love. I hope you have a speedy recovery and that you are happy with the outcome. 🙏😘
My 14 year old had the same surgery at the age of 5. Was considering possibly having it again. This video helped a lot!!!! He watched it and felt better. Thanks for the positive attitude.
You’re gorgeous and on top of it all you’re strong and you made it. So good to show this an case anyone out there is going threw the same thing. Love you baby girl ❤️😘🙏🏼🙌🏻🙌🏻 😘😘
Mama Macedo! You're so sweet! I hope I'm at least half the mama that you are, and my daughter looks up to me and loves me as much as your girls love you 😁 Your the best!
I've had a lazy eye since I was 13 or so, I checked for Surgery almost 9 years ago, and when my dad heard that it will not effect my vision, it is more beauty thing, he got scared and refused to let me do it, now I am considering again, and your video helps so much

I’ve had multiple surgeries over the years. Now I’m doing my own at home vision therapy and it’s actually helping. Good luck with everything! I love your attitude!!!
Why do people have to get more than one surgery? I don't understand. If it doesn't work why do they get the surgery done years later? Wouldn't you get it done again shortly after the first one if it didn't work?
I had a lazy eye, and when I was seven I got eye surgery and luckily it worked the first time for me. I know that many people have to have multiple surgery's. I got it on both eyes though but my left eye was worse. I was also really drowsy. I hope this is your last surgery and you recover quickly!
Tell me this nurse, 1. Is the breathing tube put in while you're awake? 2. Is getting that spray on your arm an option so you don't feel the needle? ( Yes,that spray thing I don't know the name, but I love it) Also keep up the great work
Daniel Eglington thanks. I’m a pediatric nurse so I don’t know much about this surgery. But intubation tubes for surgery are put in while you are asleep. Numbing the arm is pretty common if you have a fear of needles.
Never ever wait for the surgery my 4 year son got his surgery had done this year October 22 october.he was very brave .and never scar about it.i am so glad I fix my son eyes thank God for helping me.
I've had terrible headache at least 3-4 times a week for like 5 years. I've been told it was tension headache, I've done physio, osteopathy, medication... And I finally met an awesome physiotherapist who did a more in depth exam and found it was because of my eyes. I had a pre-consultation for the ophthalmologist this week and my actual appointment to decide if I get the surgery is next week. I'm so happy to have finally found a solution! I'me pretty stressed about it, I loved watching your video :) Thanks!
I know that same feeling when your wanting to change something but lowkey don’t want to because you want to love yourself the way you have always been without changing. I love how you brought up that it’s okay to change and still love yourself with that change. The new you that YOU want to be is the better you no matter what others think or have to say. I love you steph!!💕 so glad you’re feeling better.
This video was soooo helpful for my self confidence in my strabismus! I’ve had this surgery 5 times and I’m thinking about a 6th! Thank you for uploading this!
Thank you so much for talking about this,i love you. 👏 It's hard for me because I'm studying law so I need to look at people directly when I speak to them, most times I run or duck camera's when someone is taking a full body photo of me. 😭🤗 But I love selfies because I trust myself to get my good side. Mine is my right eye and it goes outward, my family is not understanding of it until recently my mum is trying.
thank you for sharing your experience and hope your eye is doing well after all these months. my surgery is next week and im super freaked out. im actually more at ease after hearing your story and will remember to use the cold clothes😊
@ace peace thanks man. its been 2 weeks and just had the follow up yesterday. doc said that the operation scars are healing nicely and the soreness are quite minor but still noticeable and red. main point is that my vertigo, motion sickness, and double vision is pretty much gone(:
You are like the best there was a vlog I watched she was so negative and it made me feel negative but you are so positive. Love that. Thank you so much ❤❤
I had lazy eye when I was four and after montages I started being able to control it so now when I want I can make one eye go up and the other down,I’m pretty popular at school,I also was born without cartilage in my nose so I can fold it inward,I don’t remember the surgery bit it nice to know I wasn’t alone😊
I had 2 surgeries 6mos and 4 years old. I'm now 44 and am now noticing my eye is turning in again. I am considering surgery. Growing up was hard. I got made fun of from other kids they would ask me "what are you looking at" or adults will look behind them and ask am I looking at them ( how rude) people are so rude! Thanks for your video
I actually have this surgery next week from today I'm actually excited not really nervous I'm so ready to have it done been waiting for this for like 30 something years ... wish me look guys
I legit got a lazy eye when I was like 15 and everything you described I can relate.. I live in Australia and am gonna look into surgery in the coming months. This video was awesome thank you.
I have a lazy eye and had gone to the specialist in Toronto and booked to do it as they said both my eyes don’t work well together. I chickened out. Totally regretting not doing it. I’m 31 and never had it done. I don’t even see yours at all.
It’s def not an easy decision to make so take your time. It’s been a while for me and only felt ready when I felt confident in myself & my doctor. If you’re meant to you will & if u don’t want to that’s ok too! 🖤
Im 15 and have only had one surgery. It helped but it still wonks away when I’m tired. I might get a second surgery one day maybe. This video made me feel more confident.
“Gotta be careful when you have an aries dog.” Omg I CANT 😂 i had a gemini dog and he was so chill but sooooo dramatic if he didn’t get his way all the time. Glad you’re recovering well!
I am 100% feeling your pain it makes me so upset I tend to get headaches and yes the funny part is alot of people didn't know till I said something and the Techniques you were doing i have learned over the years to try them and I guess they have worked its hard but it works for a quick second sometimes I would look up. for to long my eye would strain itself or I would look over to long that eye would start to black out im going to get it looked at in the next few weeks I'm so nervous but ready I have had sooo many negative comments been in so many fights over my eye and its just so sad I feel your pain
Hello Steph! I hope you're much better! Thank you very much for sharing the whole procedure! You are super brave! I admire you a lot! I send you all the positive energies for your complete recovery. Love you! 💚💜❤️😘😘😘
Awe my poor love you can tell in the beginning that you are nervous. Awe Ben!! Oh my gosh your eye is so red under there gave me chills!! Day 3 boo boo yess personality’s coming back. Lmao Ben on Day 4 lol so cute. Day 7 made me so happy ❤️ you look so good whatcha self!!! Love you so much you are so Inspiring!
Day 3 after left eye 4th nerve palsy surgery. I’m kinda concerned about my blurry vision. I had perfect vision before but I’m gonna give it a week for swellling in eye to go down before I sound the alarm to my dr. My eyes feel way more straight, not perfect but i won’t state facts for a month. The one thing that improved right away is I can hold a gaze to anyone. Usually I’ll feel my left eye drift upon eye contact and I would look away, but now I feel like the terminator and can stare at anyone lol
I’m having the surgery in 14 days and I’m nervous but watching your video helps me and I had it when I was two I had two muscles cut in each eye and now I am 11 and it’s my left eye that keeps crossing and I’m going to get two muscles cut.thanks for motivating me
Thanks so much for giving me the confidence to do the surgery I've had a lazy eye for 15 years since I was born and am getting a surgery watching the video gave me the strength to do the surgery Ty
I had surgery on my right eye for stabism when i was 8 years old (I am 41 now) and the strabism came back with the years. I didn't know that i could have the surgery again. Take care 😊
@@j.mortha I noticed a change when I was probably 20 years old and my optometrist told me that if it came back it would probably happen again so a second surgery wouldn't help in his opinion.
How is your vision in the lazy eye? I have a lazy eye and the vision itself is reallyyyyyy bad so I don’t even know if the surgery helps gain some vision back...my lazy eye isn’t that noticeable to others but VERY noticeable to myself
If you had lazy eye since childhood and it was not noticed early enouhg, thus the eye-cover therapy was not started. (it is optimally started before age 6). It is not very likely that the OP. would help with your vision. In USA there are clinical trials on adult amblyopia with subanesthetic ketamine treatment, maybe ask about that from opthalmologist specialized in adult amblyopia.
@@myvisualdiares no I’ll never have vision in that eye. Did the surgery purely to have straight eyes. I have 20/20 in my good eye so it hasn’t held me back
Just found you on RU-vid, I was searching up about this surgery my baby girl is going to be doing next month. Thank you so much for sharing your story, this brought me so much peace. New subscriber/Instagram follower as well I love your style 😍
Your baby girl will do fine! I’ve had mine done MANY times because of my eye condition. I started getting them when i was 4-6?? i believe. and i’ve had one every 1-2 years because of my condition. but i’ve always been fine, recovery usually goes smoothly and there’s not much pain, just a bit of discomfort in wanting to rub my eyes but not able to the way i’d like. i’m having another one in 2-3 weeks. my last one was 3 years ago, so i’m kind of nervous for another one after a while 😂
I had a lazy eye my whole life, got bullied and what not. Trying to help my eye as a kid wearing an eye patch. I’d get called a pirate all the time. finally I was able to go for surgery. It was really really painful for me and I was 13. I went to Toronto. They did an amazing job!
Hi prima! I'm having the same surgery, on my left eye next month in October for the 6th time and I'm nervous. The last time was in 1988. Omg, I'm terrified. Miss you, and so very proud of you!
I had a lazy eye when I was 6 years old. I was luckily to young to be like insecure so that was good but I wasnt really scared to whoever is going to get surgry for it just dont think to much about it. It has made my eyes so much better and you will feel so much better after you do the surgry. The only thing that bugs me is I am still wearing glasses because of it and I still have to go to primary children’s every year to get it checked out and I am almost 14 and I have worn glasses all my life. But over all I love that I got the surgry and it made a big difference off of pictures. :)
I have one question please? After how many days did your doctor say it's corrected...it's so red that i'm not sure about it and i'm so nervous about if i have to make the surgery again?
I stopped wearing my glasses in 4th grade because I was embarrassed and made fun of.. how I regret it now that I’m an adult! Maybe my eyes would be better if I would have kept wearing them!! Now I finally got the courage to make an appointment and it’s around the corner!!
They use General Anesthesia so you are completely unconscious... The surgery itself doesn't feel much, the stitches are soluble so they dissolve after some time... If all goes well there's just swelling for a couple of days... 😊👍🏻
i came across ur vlog while checking on how lazy eye operation is done.35yrs of having a lazy eye..my other eye moves outwards and been thinking of having an operation.maybe someday will have it done when ive saved up enough money😊thanks for sharing ur experience.
I am so happy for you my love. Thanks for always being so informative. You are a true beauty but your soul is even more beautiful!!! Praying for you may you have a speedy recovery. Xoxo
