Couldn't agree more! In 2019 I lost a fair bit of weight and 2-3 dress sizes with the goal of feeling healthier and less sluggish, rather than being a certain weight. A couple of people at work noticed and started constantly asking how much I'd lost now, what I was eating or how my 'diet' was going. One even started walking up to me and looking at my lunch! It made me feel like I was being watched/ judged and it wasn't a nice feeling. I was already having to work on my relationship with food as I'd put on a lot of weight during stressful times, and it didn't help mentally to know people were watching me in that way. You're right, people should mind their own business unless the person wants to discuss.

My sister and my mom both brought it up to me separately. I dont like that it's a thing to even talk about and give a bunch of attention to. But I just expressed my disinterest. That's my activism. I love that you brought it up. Edit to add: I hope Adele herself sees this actually! It deserves a ton of views all around. Thank you for it. Very balanced and I completely agree now that I've watched the whole video....love it. Your head is right....yesssssssss.

Expressing your disinterest is such a good way to deal with it! Also hoping Adele actually sees this video now :)

So well put Hannah! There are so much more interesting things to talk about than how someone looks, such lazy media! I always feel so uncomfortable when people comment on the way I look - either "good" or "bad".... Also hope Adele actually sees this too! xx

Couldn't agree more! She's an extremely successful woman, why is her weight of any importance to people?! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Personally (and I think I've commented on this on your previous posts) I've only ever had drastic weight loss during a depressive/very sad period of my life and always everyone around me is either complimentary (like it's an achievement) or asking me how I did it (which was just not eating!) Now with me being a 12/14 I do feel like I am not complimented by the same people and it creates an issue in my mind regarding my "weight gain". It's a very sad setup that society has inforced upon us all and I find it frustrating and ultimately quite confusing!

weight loss isn't always good but I guess in her case she was overweight and she can come across health complications later in life so now that she looks more like shes in the normal bmi range naturally people assume she's in a better state

It’s funny that people say she lost the weight quickly when she’s been losing weight for the last 4-5 years it’s just like you said she’s private and you don’t see her a lot so people immediately were like wow it’s sudden. Btw on her last years birthday post she said she’s gonna spend the year on herself and learn to live herself. Also her personal trainer posted a lengthy post on IG talking about it saying that she did it for her, her health and family only . @petegrracimo

Ellie Gaba I should have clarified - it looks like she’s done it quickly because she doesn’t post often , totally agree :) how interesting about he trainers post, either way, I hope he asked her before he posted and I still don’t get why it’s any of our business 🤷‍♀️ great if she’s done it for herself, that’s fantastic but the rest of the things I talked about are still true, we all just need to lift each other up and be a bit kinder :) xx

Hannah Janes yeah it’s literally no ones business it’s just people will always have an opinion on everything. She really doesn’t have to say anything cause she doesn’t owe anyone any explanation. It’s crazy how massive this got. That’s why I think he posted. (Obviously he got permission cause he is really professional he hadn’t talked about her at all up to now that things got out of control with what everyone was saying)

I guess we need to be empathic and rational at the same time. We don't know a thing about what she's going through, but the first thought that came to my mind was "she looks physically healthier than before", because we all know fat is a bad symptom for our health. I didn't think she was prettier than before, I immediately thought about her health. She looked PERFECT before and I couldn't care less about her weight, but at the same time I couldn't help myself from thinking about how her body was probably suffering. We surely don't know about her mental health, but I'm pretty sure everyone was sincerely happy for her because she is in a healthier body than before. We don't know the reason of this change and we must be respectful, but I think she's happy with her appearance, she wouldn't have posted the picture otherwise.

Rachele Falcone I agree with what you’ve said, she probably felt good and knew people would comment 🤷‍♀️ I guess I worry personally about our society’s obsession with weight and the automatic assumption (as you even you said you thought when you saw her) that people who lose weight are healthier without question. Now, she probably did it the right way, we just don’t see her post very often so it’s feels like it was really quick. I think that just because someone appears slimmer doesn’t mean they are healthier than when they were a bit overweight. They could be crash dieting, smoking, still binge drinking on weekends etc etc. I don’t disagree that being overweight can cause health problems, it’s the assumption that weight loss equates to health that I have a problem with. I also want to make it clear that I don’t support the promotion of either extreme of body types, however I do think everyone has a right to be represented and love themselves at whatever stage. The other thing that I explained was incredibly frustrating to see is women being disappointed with her for losing weight , it works both ways to me. Although I’m sure a lot of people were sincerely happy for her, I assure you a lot of the comments I’ve read were also not. The media coverage that has ensued is also worrying, I’ve seen crash diets, extreme exercise regimes being suggested as ways she’s achieved this result and helpful ‘how to’s’ on how we can all get the same results at home - I absolutely back a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise but using her weight loss as a means of promoting some unhealthier ways of doing this is not great. We just need to be kind, respectful and think before we assume and speak I think 🤷‍♀️ thank you for your comment :) xx

@@HannahJanesbeauty I clearly understand what you're trying to explain. It is a very important topic and all this "Adele scoop" surely made you speak up about it. I didn't see those types of comments. I assumed the whole situation could only spread the most positive vibes on the internet, because I truly believe that Adele worked on it for she knows how many years and if she posted it right now, she must be very happy, healthy and proud. The fact she doesn't post much on the internet proves it.

I almost forgot Adele was English because over here in the States it was a big deal too. Big women are always in the shadows in our media unless they're in a comedy. Lizzo is like the newest celebrity in years to be big and successful

I thought I couldn't like you more. I was wrong. I agree with your opinion, the obsession with someone else's weight is crazy. I have been size 8 to size 16 throughout my life (42 y/o) I was a very insecure teenager, but now at my highest weight, I am a confident woman, very happy, but I wouldn't mind to be skinnier, because it's hard to find clothes that fit me in my country, where everything is tailored to thin and tall individuals. I wish I could slap my former teenage self on the face, and said " enjoy your life, you are going to be so happy, you are a beautiful person, the right people will love you as you are, no matter the weight.

Can you explain a bit more about size 12 being considered plus size in your industry? I didn’t understand that - when you go to the plus size section of fashion retailers, it usually starts at size 18 or maybe 16...sizes 12/14 are always included in the ‘regular’ section of clothes. Just peaked my interest!
@HannahJanesbeauty
@HannahJanesbeauty 4 года назад
BlueDiamonds so yes, 12/14 are indeed in the regular sizing but it’s different in my work. So basically, anyone who is a Uk 12 and above is considered plus size even though when we all go shopping, plus size clothing does often start at a 16 or an 18. It’s just how it is in the industry, when brands go to book models, if said model is a 12 or above generally they’ll be in on the special bookings or the ‘curve board’ on the website :) 🤷‍♀️ whether or not a company sells their size in the regular area of the shop or the normal clothing range is besides the point because to the industry, those sizes aren’t regular model sizes - does that makes sense? 😂 it’s weird I know xx

Thank you for this! I just started working with a nutritionist in order to lose weight and get healthly so that I can have a baby in a few years and I am already dreading the comments on my body.

It all comes down to women not loving themselves. Just accept that every woman has their own unique journey when it comes to body acceptance/ self-care and the world would be a more forgiving and kind place.
