I know the feeling dude when it comes to biting insects, where I live in Scotland there’s the dreaded midge along with mosquitoes which are a nightmare in the evenings, I was out just taking shots of the milkyway 2 hours ago and had to wear jeans and a jacket due to them. Decided to do 20 two minutes tracked frames at f5.6/iso 400, 10 lights, 10 darks to help bring out the faint milkyway, hopefully this does the trick as made sure the histogram was correct and those settings seemed to be the ones that done trick as far as the histogram is concerned.
Thanks for the two views.Early season cold/snow and summer bugs and sweat OH! MY!!! For the no-see-ums and mosquitoes (worse sunset/sunrise), dry clothes with dryer sheets also Skin-so-Soft lotion or oil in a spray bottle mixed with water. Eat lots of garlic or onions for a couple of days. There are net gloves and just head but the jacket and head best, I wear a long sleeve UA type under . Thin gloves will keep oil/lotion off gear. There are also full head protection (protects ears) made like UA thin that you can wash or put light oil spray. I also use a clear rain protector on camera and lens to protect form oily fingers. Also I wear snake boots, I have seen a rattlesnake go across a beach at night also Bear Spray for gators, mating season during early MW season - I have seen two while going to Jekyll Island driftwood at 2am, shine a light to see the eyes. Oh! and the armor you have to wear today. I hate no one puts tape on the red leds and no one wears a green head lamp (better vision) vs the red.
Awesome work! I took a few shots, as well, a few nights ago. Although, my foreground is not as interesting as yours. Maybe I'll go out again before the moon comes out.
Good stuff Mike. I got the MSM Z mount a few weeks ago, and yet to try it out. After this vid, i feel lucky to live and shoot the Southern California deserts where there is nothing to attack you at night.
It’s never been an issue except 1 time after hurricane Sandy in Seaside the cops didn’t want people near the rollercoaster in the ocean… I explained what my intentions were and they told me at what distance to remain. if that situation ever occurs just be polite and apologetic which should help you 99% of the time once they see you are a photographer and not someone causing problems.
Cool location! Are there other nice locations for astro photography down south? I live in Atlanta, and unfortunately light pollution anywhere near the city is pretty bad.
Check out dark site finder.com then look for blue and grey areas near you which will give the best night skies… green is ok but will still have quite a bit of light pollution
Hey Mike, I was wondering do you guys who post out here on RU-vid get $$ from these stupid ads that RU-vid throws up before your video? Had 3 clear nights down here in Vegas & was finally able to go out and shoot.
@@Milkywaymike I've been going SE of Vegas and Boulder City for Milky Way. For Nebula's, star trails and galaxies I have a nice dark spot between Pahrump and Death Valley I go to. Very little if any people at all. Glad you're guys who post are getting something back from RU-vid.
Hi Mike, may i ask you how to setting to light house at night? I took some beautiful star photos, milky way in these days but always failed light house at night. When i check the photo, It’s like, light beam seems to a nuclear bomb
