thank you, lisa c: having nuanced, fact-driven conversation is very important to me - especially in the age of fake news and pseudo experts. thank you for your support and i hope your new year brings you joy!
being more open-minded is definitely something I had to learn over the years. especially with controversial/political topics in which the right is mostly shunned and refused to listen to (particularly in my liberal community). although I disagree with someone’s viewpoint, I actually take the time to hear their side and I find that it creates a more accepting and healthy discussion
my new years resolutions.... • theres the standard eat healthier and lose weight, which i can hopefully make achievable long term • read more + read more classics - im so glad you mentioned anna karenina, I've just started reading it and i already know its gonna take me a while to get through lol • let myself live my life and do the things i imagine myself doing if i had "more time" - ive always wanted to write, paint, read and socialise more but always gave the excuse that I'm too busy with trying to get certain grades to get into uni/trying to get the grades I want. but i realise that there is a way to live a life which contains more than just school and watching youtube. so i wanna let myself do things without feeling the guilt that "i could be studying instead" stop me. • procrastinate less/cut down social media time - i am way too easily lured into stan culture and spending hours at a time scrolling through instagram, tumblr and recently twitter. as much as i want to keep that part of my life going, i dont want to waste hours a day procrastinating what needs done and denying myself the chance to do those things i wanna do like painting and writing. finding the balance is the real new year goal, i guess. i really enjoyed this video, it provoked many thoughts
anjali jayanty i love your resolutions, especially the last two! those are very relatable unfortunately and hilariously ironic- feeling like there’s no time but spending what time you do have on social media.
i love your new year's resolutions! anna karenina SUPER good just really really long. i really resonated with your third comment (live my life and do the things i imagine myself doing if i had more time). it was that exact same mindset that prompted me to create this youtube channel a couple of years ago :) keep me updated on your journey! i hope 2020 brings you abundance and joy
heck yes! healthy means different things for different people and cultures. i know that in western communities, it means low carb, high fat (keto style), but in eastern communities, it means rice, veggies, and protein. find something that's sustainable and brings you joy, without feeling deprived. keep me updated and let me know how your resolution goes :) rooting for ya!
even though we’re around the same age, hearing you talk about any topic makes me realize how more mature you are & i always love the interesting perspective you provide and the thought that goes into everything you do.
thank you jnnts :) tbh, i'm not this introspective all of the time. something about turning on the camera turns me into a psedo-philosopher-type haha. i hope your 2020 goes well!
Recently I’ve been kind of envious?? because even just hearing you talk in your videos (which I’ve watched many of), I realize that you’re the type of person that sets goals and reaches them. I’m going to try my best. I don’t care how many books and mindset shifts it requires; I want to live a full life.
ahh hearting your comment gave me mixed feelings because i'm so happy that you're aiming to live a fulfilling live but sad that you're envious :( honestly, i wasn't always this way growing up. i never accomplished anything or finished projects and sat around at home and read books and that was about it. i also was SUPER depressed (like actually) and creating discipline and structure helped me a lot in that regard as well. the biggest thing that helped me was just constantly reminding myself how much i could grow if i could do something every day for a year. and by the end of the year, if i still didn't wanna do it, i could quit. but one year is only 1% of your life, which is so small when you think about it that way. keep me updated - i'm looking forward to hearing about your journey. all the good and the bad :) thanks for sharing such an intimate part of your heart and i hope you create the dream version of yourself this year.
hello! my new years resolutions are normally about doing something "every" day, week, etc. but this year i just want to do things MORE. -eat healthier & exercise more: no mark to hit, just doing more than nothing! i am starting nursing school in the fall and want to make this a habit. -use up products i already have before buying new ones (ie. using up lotions, chapsticks) -thinking more sustainably/consciously: shopping less (and creating a clothing budget), bringing my reusable cups and bags, etc! also continuing to downsize my wardrobe, but also keep it that way. my goal is 75 pieces for a 4 season state! -reading more books for a hobby and continuing to sketch, rather than watching more netflix -learn more sign language and Spanish (I am a healthcare major and think this would be a valuable skill) thank you to everyone who read this - i wish you a happy 2020 and achieve your goals!
ooh nursing school! nursing is a thankless and fantastic job and i whole heartly applaud you for going into such an intensive and empathetic field. you're the front line of patient communication and i've had family members spend time in and out of hospitals so i appreciate nurses SO damn much. congrats on nursing school, danielle! I might steal your resolution of using products hehe. I've hoarded so many over the years that i literally never use. such a waste of product - they need to go to better homes and i just need to bring fewer in. major applaud on sign language and spanish - i used duo lingo for a while to learn spanish and it was GREAT. also watching spanish TV really helps the brain figure out how to form sentences organically and colloquially, rather than academically. i wish YOU a happy 2020 and know for a fact that you'll achieve your goals.
hey michelle, i just wanted to thank you for bringing up sustainability and the conflicts that it inevitably comes with. personally i have no bulk stores or any zero/low waste and vegan grocery options so i have to compromise where i can. i really feel like we share similar concerns and i'm grateful that thanks to you i do not feel like i'm the only one dealing with such dilemmas. PS: love your videos
I’m the one who don’t always comment. One of my new year resolution is to have more consistency as well. Many of my habits didn’t last because I’m not consistent with them :( I’m using Matt D’Avella 2 days rule to help me with this.
jiaxin! thanks for sharing! i did not know who matt d'avella was before this comment and i REALLY appreciate that you shared! we'll keep each other in check and help each other grow :) hope 2020 brings you joy and abundance.
Last year I had a book goal (23 books). This year I just want to read. I want to journal more and be more present. I want to spend less time on socials and connect in person. Those are a few amongst many ongoing goals
I'm a big sloucher as well! Surprisingly, weight lifting has helped me a lot as far as being conscious of my posture day to day. I'm sure strengthening my back muscles helped as well. I think having that mind to muscle connection is really important with posture, maybe you could try it out
go to med school study violin more often produce more content for my channel love myself first practice my english skills learn korean read 1 book a month thats some of my 2020 goals
A bit late but I just wanna be more consistent with good habits such as journalling, making my bed every morning, taking vitamins, packing my own healthy-ish snacks, etc. :D
For 2020 I want to dedicate time towards allowing myself to reach my goals. I want to actually follow through, no matter how small the goals might be. Even just allowing myself to actually sit down for meditation every morning (its benefits are so crucial for my everyday sanity) instead of mindless scrolling instagram...if I repeatedly dont fulfill the promises I make to myself it´ll damage my self perception in the long term
i love your videos michelle! you always inspire me to be more productive and to maximize my life. and side note i absolutely love how we use the same muji pens and uni highlighters! more power to you love
i usually start new years resolutions during february. that way, i don't feel the february slump. i feel like january is the month in which i try to ease into the new year and i don't wanna try to make huge changes to my life in the first month. good luck on your new year resolutions!!!
the idea of living a greener lifestyle always appealed to me but adding the idea of living a sustainable lifestyle is something I would definitely want to learn more about and any resources/information towards that would be welcomed!
I appreciate you focusing on the realsiticness of it all. I personally live in a third world country right now, and everything is imported and therefor wrapped in plastic. every individual apple, pepper and onion comes on a styrofoam tray and is wrapped in plastic. I feel awful everytime i go to the shop. but i litterally have no other option and need to not beat myself up about it. (i am only living here for a short time and monkeys eat all the produce on the island hence why all the food is imported in the first place)
my new years resolutions are: 1) eating healthier and working towards losing weight and gaining muscle. I feel you on lost flexibility, and i want to get past where i was in high school, 2) create better time management for myself. i want to be able to sleep more and do my homework at a reasonable time, while still leaving time for extra things like reading, and 3) i also want to possibly create a blog or youtube channel as i want to talk about books but i'm unsure of how to make the first steps. Thanks for another fantastic video!
i really vibe with your new year's resolutions, megan! tbh you should totally just start when it comes to making content. fear is the mind killer and the only thing stopping you from creating is YOU. keep me updated on your resolutions! rooting for ya! xx
Some of my new years resolutions are to revamp my youtube channel, learn better video editing skills, and I want to create animated intros. So, the skillshare deal is AWESOME and right on time:) PS - Your vlogs are so relaxing to watch!
i actually used jenny mustard's skillshare deal mANY moons ago haha i hope you enjoy their resources as much as i do :) and thanks so much for watching my videos tiff!
My new years resolutions are-keep small habits (setting screentime, have a breakfast, reading and exercising at least 30 mins a day, writing one thing I'm grateful for at the end of the day)-relax and enjoy small things (coffee, talking a walk, BTS (lol) )-have more connection with my freinds and family (or building my own community) -100% financial independece from my parents (=getting a job) Hope you have a wonderful 2020 Michelle and congratulations on 50k subscribers! You deserve it. It's 설날 soon in Korea, have a nice 떡국 with your family and happy new year :)
Ah I love that you take time to think about your goal, that's what I did too and its only now I've finally decided: 1) Think less do more (because Im pessimistic and talk myself out of all opportunities I know are good for me) 2) Be patient with myself 3) Regularly work out and eat more veggies and protein 4) Go back to uni in August (I took a gap year because I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, hence also being patient with myself heh) 5) Read more I love that you're so conscious and mindful about sustainability, I hope in the near future I can delve into that as well 😊
could you talk more about your relationship with maths in a video because currently, maths and I are having way too many problems, ever since we adopted calculus life has been hard.
I really like your take on sustainability because i personally feel its less anxiety-inducing when compared to being zero waste or other seemingly hard lifestyle choices.
haha actually i enjoy my circuits class the most out of all of my classes :) now, e+m is a whole new level. griffiths electromagnetics has personally attacked me for a whole damn year and just ew never again.
i do love my circuits classes too as i'm graduating in electronics (electronic engineering, here in Brazil), but they are a pain in the ass sometimes hahaha. electromagnetics was never my thing, as much as i like to study them, i really can't get it inside my head, but i still have to do one class in electromagnetic waves, which i'm not really excited for :')
As a finance major, I'm ashamed to say I haven't been able to invest the way I want to. I would love to combine 2 of my resolutions, both to begin investing and to live a more sustainable lifestyle, and invest in companies that value their corporate responsibility.
My New Year's resolution is to work on my career outside uni. I study international relations and while I loove attending classes, I feel like I need to start going to more conferences, networking, meeting interesting ppl in the field!! I'll be out of uni next year and I'm determined to change the world towards a better one!!!
YES i definitely will this year! let me know what topics you'd like me to cover so i can create a more focused plan on how to encourage people to be more sustainable.
i've been watching all your vids for a couple of weeks now and like i have to say this that you are different from the other content creators that i've previously watched and by different i mean in a good way and that the way you talk/communicate is very very natural and you're not camera awkward. I love the way you vlog it literally like you're sharing your mind with us and it really resonates with me as a viewer like some how feel connected to the things that you've been saying about like sustainable living and etc. thanks michelle ❤️
you made me interested in sustainability, so i’ll be doing research on it! my goals this year are similar to yours in be consistent with fitness and reading more. i want to also make it a habit to study korean and journal. though i do have a fitness goal of x amount of lbs (for health reasons) i also want to gain flexibility and agility again.
Love love love your content! I love how you articulate your words and the way you think. Good luck and hopefully all of us will keep each other in check and actually achieve our new years resolutions :))
thank you so much for watching, tanya! your support and encouragement really means so much. i hope to see you around the comments section this year and connect more! please keep me updated on your resolutions! i'm here to support you and help you grow!
@@hyelimchoi_ thank you! and yes, I'll be sticking around for sure! So my resolutions are the following: 1. Improve my relationship with my body. Specifically, control my PCOS. I have actually been working on this. I have been cooking and meal prepping all my meals. I also workout atleast 4 times a week. And I have been getting atleast 6-7 hours of sleep everyday which is a big improvement for me! 2. Become financially conscious. I haven't really been tracking my money and this isn't really a problem, because I don't spurge on anything, but I want to become more financially independent and build my credit score and things like that. And I think the first step to doing that would be budgeting and just becoming aware of my money. 3. Communicating science. This is something that I have lately been enjoying. I want to use art to explain topics that I am currently learning in college. I have never done this form of science communication before, but I have this sudden urge to work on this. 4. Create a website for myself and also an organization I am a part of. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 5. Relax and finish what you started. For some reason, I have a really bad habit of starting things with a lot of excitement, but not finishing it. I think this is due to my perfectionism. So I want to finish projects even if the results are not the quality I expected it to be. Bad results are better than no results.
these are some amazing new year's resolutions!! 1. i'm so sorry you have PCOS. i also struggle with female hormonal problems and it's a freaking bitch. i wish i could say more or do more to help you 2. we as a society are really weird about money and i applaud you for taking that leap in growing your financial literacy. do your research, read a lot, and DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. my friends and i always talk about money, salary, and saving because it's IMPORTANT. money can't buy happiness but it sure as hell provides security. 3. ooh i'm so excited for you to explore this new element of communication! 4. design or coding or both??? i LOVE web design - it's so much fun! what organization are you building a website for? 5. RELAX oh jeez i resonate with that one so much. I also have that problem of starting things with excitement but not finishing and found that for me, it was a discipline problem. i got bored half way and decided not to finish. then i started tracking my time to see finished results v projects spent and that kinda motivated me to finish just so i could have another data point for my graph hehe. congrats on your new year's resolutions :) i'm excited to see how you grow this year!
I can't express how am I obsessed watching your videos in one go and then another time! Literally, I watched your last videos repeatedly just to relate and transform my lifestyle! I acquired your vibe and grasped your way of expression and that really helped me a lot to imagine myself transforming in to a new me! ~ love from India 🇮🇳 @marshmalow_boy New year resolutions - Eat healthy and Read more!!
aw thank you for joining us, kamallochan :) it's really nice to have you here! so glad we can connect and hope to stay connected through the rest of the year and more!
I'll be studying computer science in uni starting february and I'm super excited to see your progress with coding!! Also I'm inclined to web design as well and I feel like it's basically the asian-parent-approved-design-job lol
We are Good Asian Daughters (tm) doing parent approved design. LOL In all seriousness, i probably should've just done CS/design double major but OH WELL. i will say tho for wireframes, def use figma or sketch - not adobe xd. adobe xd is not great (though it comes free with an adobe subscription hehe)
@@hyelimchoi_ Ah a CS/Design double major sounds really interesting! And thanks for the advice although I don't really know what those are yet (lol), so far I've only done html and css (made a non-functional website for an assignment) but hopefully I'll learn more about everything in uni!!
thanks kao! (also i've noticed your presence a lot recently in the comment section! welcome if you're new, welcome back if you've been here for a while!)
@@hyelimchoi_ I've been here for a while. I just never had the guts & confidence to leave comments. I passively consume content, just like you mentioned. This year my new year resolution is just to be more confident, let my voice out, express myself and to work on things that I am passionate about. Work on my dreams. To thank people who brings inspiration and motivation to me. & Thanks Michelle! I love your videos!! They are just so real!!!
!! i encourage this commenting !! you have something valuable to say, even if it's mentioning that you liked something, or if it's starting a conversation about something you think is important. i'm SO proud of you for taking that leap of faith in yourself. i'm looking forward to more conversations with you this year :)
